"Why don't you trust me?" Breeze asked.

"Well first of all," Cade held up one finger. "You're new. Second of all, you're making poison."

"And can you prove that second fact?" Breeze asked him.

"Because you answered my question vaguely when I asked you. Only someone who was making poison would answer like that."

"Do you know what snakeroot, hemlock, nightshade, or belladona is?"

Cade opened his mouth to say something witty before realizing he had nothing. "No…"

"That's what I thought," Breeze chuckled to herself.

"See? I have absolutely no reason to trust you."

"Do you want to know?" Breeze sighed and asked him.

"That would help determine whether you're here to kill us or not"

"I'm not here to kill you," Breeze had finished with the hemlock, "I only use these on guards."

"So you're here to kill him?" Cade asked, pointing to the boy that looked like him.

"No he seems nice enough," Breeze responded.

"You trust too easily." Cade stated bluntly.

"You, not enough," Silene remarked. "She hasn't tried to attack us yet."

"I agree with Silene," Breeze looked to her, "I'm an empath I know who to trust and who not to."

Cade rolled his eyes. "It's smarter to not trust someone than to trust them. You won't lose anything if you never trust them in the first place."

"Hey, you trusted me in the first five seconds of meeting," Silene argued. "We're in a sandstorm shelter."

"Yeah, but you gave me this." Cade pulled the gem out of his pocket. "I appreciate bribery."

Silene laughed. "You trust a thief more than a herbalist who heals people."

"She's poisoning." Cade pointed out. "And I trust my own kind."

Silene smiled, it'd been a long time since she had someone trust her. "Maybe she's poisoning for a good cause." She gestured towards Breeze.
"Like, maybe she can help kill Caspian." She laughed out loud.
