Blood. There was so much blood. Chakuro sobbed, banging at the door.
"Let me out! Where's Aita?! What did you do to him?!" his memories blocked out his screams, replacing them with the image of blood. They had run, far away, as Klandestine, Lu, Roe, and Diana had chased them, yelling and screaming and brandishing their weapons. Aita had pulled Chakuro into a corner, acting like the stupid brave brother he was.
"Stay here." he'd commanded, "I'm going to be a distraction." and Chakuro had just stared, wide eyed with fear and screaming in his head as his cheeks were stained with tears.
"D-don't go." he'd pulled on Aita's arm, but Aita pulled away, running off.
Chakuro's green eyes filled with tears, trying to block the memories. I don't want to know anymore. I don't want to know. Please. His mind didn't obey.

Charlie sat on the edge of her bed, her gaze focused on the silver locket in her hand. The lines that the priests had spoken kept on playing over and over again in her head. Pairs of siblings born under the wintermoon, One will win, the others are doomed. Sent to the cities that have long been lost, they will finally realize that their blessings have a cost. She sighed, wishing that today wasn't her eighteenth birthday. But, she had made a promise to herself. She needed to protect August no matter what.
August woke up from a nap, shifting as he stretched. He sat up, yawning softly. He ran a hand through his hair, strands falling into his face. He swung his legs out of bed before getting up and changing his clothes. He almost forgot what the day was, until he looked at a written down date. Today was the day that Charlie and him turned 18. There was a nervous lump in his thoart. One of them would have to die for the other to be free. As he looked out a window, he made a silent promise to give himself up. Charlie had so much to look forward to in her life. He would give anything to see her grow and prosper.
Aita's dead body had broken Chakuro. He had stood over his brothers body, picking flowers and laying them over, shedding silent tears. His heart once so happy and full had shattered into unfixable pieces.
Remembering was like breaking his heart a second time.
Aita's white hair was stained red with blood and Chakuro had buried his body, wondering how anyone could possibly do this to someone. How could they kill so easily? Chakuro had vowed revenge that night, grabbing his brothers scythe and marching into the other's camps, murdering in the dead of the night.
Chakuro clutched his chest, listening to his beating heart. Please, please, I don't want to remember.
"August. . ." Charlie said softly, a change from her usual confident demeanor. She stood outside of his room, her hair falling around her face in dark waves. "It's today."
She could already hear their mother shouting for them downstairs, only sounding like muffled shouting from their rooms. Charlie ignored it. She didn't need to hear her parents curse at her for being marked again.
August turned when he heard Charlie’s voice. He could notice the shift in her usual expression, and gave a weak smile before stepping over and tugging her into a hug. “I know, we’ll figure this out..” he said quietly, ignoring their mother’s calls.
Gabriela tied up her auburn hair as she stared at herself in the mirror. She and her sister had turned eighteen yesterday (or should they all have the same birthday?), and since then she had been extremely nervous. Gabby didn't dare use her powers, and she had made a vow to only use them in life or death situations.
Genevieve walked into the bathroom to find Gabby standing there, "You good sis?"
She bit her lip, nodding slowly. "It's just…we're eighteen now. Ever since our birthday I've been…just…waiting for something bad to happen." Gabriela sighed.
"I get it," Genie responded, "But I promise nothing bad is going to happen to you."
Gabby turned to face her sister. "What about you? If I'm staying safe, you are too."
(I don’t know why but I have the urge to make August be deaf, hm)
(that would be kind of cool though)
"I will," Genie responded, "I don't know what I would do without you though."
She smiled softly. "I don't know what I'd do without you either."
August turned when he heard Charlie’s voice. He could notice the shift in her usual expression, and gave a weak smile before stepping over and tugging her into a hug. “I know, we’ll figure this out..” he said quietly, ignoring their mother’s calls.
"The priests are saying things again. I memorized it. . ." Charlie said quietly, resting her head against August's chest as she leaned into his embrace.
Gabby chuckled slightly, nodding and reaching to hug her sister. "Defiantly."
Genie pulled her sister into a hug, "I really hope nothing bad happens."
"Me too." Gabby sighed again.
