Vaughn still kept his gentle smile as he nodded slowly. “You don’t feel.. depressed, or anything?” He thought to ask. He had to be sure. He liked seeing Kaz happy, and if Kaz was still depressed, then he was failing at his job of being a boyfriend.
"Baby, I've got two settings. In love, and depressed. And right now, we're looking at setting number one. But I'm on my meds, I've got the best boyfriend I could ask for, so right now I'm doing pretty good," Kaz said, giving Vaughn a soft smile. He appreciated the concern, it made him feel…valuable. Yeah, he was pretty sure that was the word
Vaughn hummed in a pleased manner, smiling warmly now down at Kaz. “I’m glad to hear that. How about we go cuddle to make you feel even better. How does that sound?” He asked, giving Kaz’s hand a gentle squeeze.
Kaz smiled widely at that. "That sounds great," he said, grinning up at Vaughn as they reached their room. He opened the door for the two of them, still smiling as he flopped onto one of the beds
Vaughn shut the door behind them and slowly walked over to the bed Kaz was on. He took a seat on the edge of it, smiling to himself as he reached down to run a hand through Kaz’s curls gently.
Kaz smiled up at Vaughn, leaning gently into his touch. "C'mon, I want cuddles," he said, making grabby hands in Vaughn's direction as he shuffled so he was laying on the bed a little more comfotably
Vaughn chuckled, finding it adorable when Kaz did that with his hands. So, he laid down, pulling Kaz to his chest. He pressed a kiss to the others cheek, smiling over at him.
Kaz grinned, closing his eyes and snuggling into Vaughn's chest. "That's better," he mumbled, turning to look up at him. He leaned up, pressing a quick kiss to Vaughn's jaw as he wrapped his arms around him
“Yeah? God, you’re precious,” Vaughn murmured softly, rolling onto his back and tugging Kaz partly onto his chest. He enjoyed the warm feeling that the boy provided him. He gave a content hum, lazily moving one of his legs over Kaz’s.
"Aww, you think I'm precious," Kaz said in a teasing tone, snuggling into Vaughn's chest happily. He felt an odd, warm feeling building up in his chest, and he was pretty sure it was happiness. Huh. He hadn't been happy in…a long time
Vaughn bit at his lower lip and gave a faint smile. “Of course I do,” he mumbled, giving Kaz’s body a squeeze. He felt very at peace with himself for once. No whispers or worry, just a nice, calm feeling.
Kaz smiled, letting his eyes flutter shut as he laid against Vaughn's chest. He was still a little anxious about the mutations, however calm he may be, but being next to Vaughn helped. Maybe he would get to take a nap before the mutations started to happen. He had to repress a shudder at the thought that he might be the first to mutate, just like he was the first to integrate. He wondered idly if it had something to do with his father, but he cleared the thought from his mind as he wrapped an arm around Vaughn
Vaughn took note of how Kaz’s eyes shut. He pressed a firm kiss to Kaz’s forehead as he glanced over at him. “Tired?” he murmured, fingers rubbing at Kaz’s back. With all this anxiety and worry running through him, he didn’t think he could sleep if he tried.
Kaz nodded. "Yeah. Didn't sleep much," he mumbled. Images of his nightmare flashed through his mind, watching himself dismember the people he cared about while he was helpless to stop. He shook his head slightly, trying to clear the thoughts from his mind as he buried his face into Vaughn's chest
“Try and get some rest now… You won’t feel any better if you don’t get any sleep,” Vaughn murmured. He knew that for a fact. He would try and sleep deprived himself and take more of his medication than he was supposed to to stop the night terrors. It never worked, though. Just caused him to grow sick.
Kaz hummed in acknowledgement, letting the sleep deprivation crash down on him as he finally began to drift off. Maybe, now that he was next to Vaughn, he would actually be able to sleep
(oof I've got a plan for Kaz to mutate when he has a nightmare, idk when you were planning on Vaughn mutating but I'm lowkey convinced we scared everyone else off lol)
(I don't know what to do…)
(I haven't seen fangirl in a while, but maybe we could all mutate and then everyone could kinda group up and be like 'ah yes I can zap people now' or something)
(I was just planning on mutating him at some point after Kaz lmao)
(Lol yeah let's do that. Aliana is going to start freaking out.)
(lol ok I think I'll just start off the mutations with traumatizing Kaz even more)
Kaz couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. All he could see was family, friends, Vaughn ripped apart brutally as his father tore them apart. While he helped. But it wasn't him, it was something that looked like him. Someone with black eyes and a smile that Kaz recognized. One that tore him apart in his dreams, watched his chest being tore open on a surgeon's table next to a row of people he cared about. He began to thrash in his sleep, nails reaching up to dig into his chest, claw at his neck
Vaughn had rolled slightly away from Kaz in his deep sleep, so he frowned in that state when he felt movement on the bed. He stretched his arms out as he opened his eyes slowly, growing quickly panicked when he noticed Kaz’s state. “Kaz? Kaz,” He said, rolling over and sitting up. He shook Kaz, not wanting him to accidentally hurt himself.
The motion startled Kaz awake, and he fell from the bed with a sharp cry. His breathing was quick and sporadic, and he curled in on himself as he shook. His nails dug into his legs through the thick cargo pants, eyes unfocused and frantic as he breathed heavily. "No more, no more," he repeated
Vaughn’s eyes widened even more and he hopped off the bed, crouching by Kaz’s side. “Kaz! Kaz, are you okay?!” He asked in a slightly panicked tone. He grabbed Kaz’s hands in his own to keep him from hurting himself.
"Don't touch me!" Kaz screamed, wrenching his hands away from Vaughn. "Don't touch me, don't touch me, no more!" he shouted, his eyes squeezing shut as tears streamed from them. And that was when it happened. The hair on the backs of their necks stood up, and that was the only warning before a flash of white-streaked violet shot Vaughn backwards
