Vaughn quickly rolled off of Kaz when the scientists came in, jaw clenching tightly. Radiation treatment using pills? That was… strange. He sat up, posture tense as he watched the scientists with a sharp gaze.
Vaughn quickly rolled off of Kaz when the scientists came in, jaw clenching tightly. Radiation treatment using pills? That was… strange. He sat up, posture tense as he watched the scientists with a sharp gaze.
The scientist walked over to them with two identical trays, one labeled Weathers and one labeled Finley. They set them off to the side, looking up at the two on the bed. "Who wants to-"
"Me. I'll go first," Kaz volunteered before the scientist could even finish speaking. They raised a brow but said nothing, turning their back to ready Kaz's tray
Vaughn frowned softly, brow furrowed. “Why so eager?” He mumbled softly to Kaz, leaning closer to be better heard by the other. It was strange to him. Kaz must have something that he’s planning on doing.
"Because I refuse to let you do this first and watch you die on the floor if something happens," Kaz mumbled before he was forced to stand up by one of the guards. The scientist took the bandages off his neck, frowning at the discolored skin.
"Looks like you're fully integrated. We're going to give you an activator and then you'll have the pills to take." They held a large syringe full of a clear liquid in their hand, and Kaz's eyes grew wide. Stay strong for Vaughn, Kaz. You don't want to thrash about and end up hurting him, do you? his mind teased. Kaz held out his arm, looking away and closing his eyes as he was injected. The scientist set the used syringe on the tray before grabbing two neon green pills and a cup of water. They handed them to Kaz, and he glared at them before taking them quickly
Vaughn’s eyes narrowed sharply as he watched. He didn’t like that the needle was making Kaz seem upset. Didn’t like that it hurt him. He gave the guards a dangerous look, hinting that if he was touched, the guard would regret it. His eyes flicked to where the things for him were, and he looked extremely wary.
Kaz sat down back on the bed, glaring down at the floor. The guard didn't touch Vaughn, but the scientist grabbed his tray. "Okay, Vaughn. Your turn," they said, and Kaz reached over to give Vaughn's hand a quick squeeze
Vaughn got up slowly, glancing down at Kaz. He stood still, but his body was stiff and tense. He clenched his jaw, waiting for the needle. He may get scolded for not having any bandages on, but he would say fuck off to that.
The scientist checked the discoloration on Vaughn's neck before taking his arm gingerly and injecting him with the clear fluid. They set the needle on the tray before taking two more pills and handing them to Vaughn with a cup of water. "Take those and I'll be out of your hair," they said, gulping as Kaz shot them a dangerous look
Vaughn took the pills and put them into his mouth, swallowing them with water. He sat back down next to Kaz, jaw clenched. He rested a hand over one of Kaz’s, gripping it tightly.
The scientist set the cup back on the cart, wheeling it out as the guards left. Kaz breathed a sigh of relief as the door clicked closed, squeezing Vaughn's hand gently as he leaned against his side. "Well, hey. That wasn't too bad, I guess," he mumbled
“It’ll probably get worse,” Vaughn mumbled, in a pessimistic mood. He rested his chin on the top of Kaz’s head, trying to concentrate on the touching to calm his nerves.
"Yep," Kaz drawled, smiling softly at the way Vaughn rest his chin on his head. He squeezed at his hand again before rubbing at it, a hand moving to rub at Vaughn's back soothingly
“I’m hungry,” Vaughn mumbled, leaning into Kaz’s hand. He enjoyed the feeling of Kaz’s rubbing, feeling like his hand was loosening the tension in his muscles. “Could we see if there’s something to eat in the cafeteria?”
"Sure, ba-Vaughn," Kaz said, catching himself before he used the nickname. Judging by Vaughn's reaction the last time he had tried to say something couple-y, like when he had said he loved Vaughn, the reaction he had gotten wasn't entirely pleasant. He moved to sit up, stretching while he still held Vaughn's hand
Vaughn arched a brow, able to assume what Kaz was about to say. He stood up, rolling his shoulders back slowly, feeling a pop in his back. “Come on, baby,” he said, hoping Kaz would take the hint that it was okay to say that.
Kaz felt his face heat up slightly at the nickname, and before he could stop himself a soft smile was spreading across his face. "Okay, let's go. Maybe they'll have burgers or something," he said, tugging Vaughn gently towards the door
“I doubt they’ll have something that good,” Vaughn grumbled, walking out of the room with Kaz. He kept his head lowered, glancing down at the ground every once in a while.
"A gay can hope," Kaz snickered, giving Vaughn's hand a quick squeeze as they walked down the hallway towards the cafeteria. He began to hum softly, happy that he was spending time with Vaughn
The scientists came in suddenly and unexpectedly. They handed her a couple of pills and simply said "Radiation treatment." Before gesturing at her to take them. She did, without hesitation, pills didn't bother her, it was needles, or more like the people on the other end of them, that bothered her. She swallowed the pills. They peeled back the bandage before removing it. They smirked at her, "Hope you enjoy the living arrangements." What the hell was that supposed to mean. They left without another word, leaving pills for her no-name roommate. "Well goodbye then." She snipped after they left.
Vaughn glanced over at Kaz, a soft smile forming on his lips. He let go of Kaz’s hand, slipping an arm around his waist instead. He gave Kaz’s hip an affectionate squeeze, keeping the other close to him in a seemingly protective manner.
Jules fell asleep. And the thrashing began, then the screaming. Usually her words were incoherent but this time one word was clear, "Help." She screamed over and over and over again. She was silent and still for the rest of the night.
(Sorry for the trash response, it's been a long couple of days)
(lol it's all good)
Kaz's smile widened, a hand slipping around Vaughn's waist as well as they walked. He thought it was pretty adorable how protective Vaughn was. He turned his head as he smelled what he was sure was hamburgers coming from the cafeteria. "Oh my god, there really are burgers!"
Vaughn inhaled slowly as he glanced around the hallway. “Surprising. You’re overly excited,” he commented, looking down at Kaz with a faint smile. He continued to rub and squeeze at Kaz’s hip absentmindedly.
"Oh hush. Burgers are the best thing since modern cellos and Smash Bros," Kaz chuckled, making his way towards the lunch line. "Are you gonna eat or are you gonna sit and starve again? Because I will use the rest of my money to buy an entire vending machine's worth of granola bars if you don't eat."
Vaughn raised his hands in surrender and nodded, letting go of Kaz to follow him. “There’s no need for that, I’m going to eat,” he reassured.
