"Yeah. It's basically a giant warehouse were we keep spare weapons, gear, tools, machinery, that sort of thing." Mike led them outside, where the sun was beginning to shine weakly. "We had to expand it recently to accommodate for all the new recruits coming in. There it is." He pointed at a very large metal building on their right with sliding double doors and small windows high above the ground.
"Ah…. okay.?" Red shook her head, trying to just go with the flow and not interrupt any more. She wandered after Mike, confused as to what she was supposed to be doing.
(hello sorry for vanishing) Pluto whistled at the size of the armory. "Dang. Bet you could fit a couple jumbo jets in there."
"If there were any jumbo jets left in the country, I'd take you up on that bet." Mike led them into the armory through a side door, flicking on the nearby lights as he entered. It was a vast, chilly, echoing space, filled with incredibly tall steel shelves and stacks of wooden crates. A series of catwalks laced the rafters, and it was possible to make out one or two hunters traveling along them in search of what the needed.
Mike went down an aisle of clothes, counting off the sizes until he was almost at the end. "Here, just slip this on," he said, offering Red a pair of hunter's coveralls. "Looks about your size. The rest of you can find stuff that fits too, and then we move on to boots and vests. Pluto, if your wings give you trouble, feel free to hack a hole in something. We've got plenty."
"Awesome. This looks like the shed my mom kept her bomber in back in WW2, just a lot bigger." Pluto walked slowly, running her hands along some of the jackets and other clothing items. "She was a Night Witch, y'know. Killed Germans in a crop duster."
"Uh…" Red took the coveralls and turned them around in her hands, examining them. She began to attempt to put them on without help or instruction and ended up getting her arms tangled in the straps and her head somehow stuck in a hole. "Aaahhhhh…. help," she called out lightly trying to get herself unstuck but pulled on her hair instead.
Pluto turned around, snapping out of her nostalgia. "Oh, gods, how did you mess those up?" she laughed. She moved to help Red with the coveralls, untangling the straps and carefully getting her hair out of the way. She helped Red put the coveralls on and stepped back, patting the vampire on the head. "There ya go kid. Congrats, you're wearing coveralls."
(gtg guys. i'll be back on in about an hour)
"I dunno my history too good, but sounds like that was a good thing. I woulda liked to meet your ma if we hadn't been born in different dimensions."
(kay, I might have to go soon as well, we'll see)
(k) Pluto smiled a sad smile. "Yeah, do some research on WW2 if you get the chance. The night witches beat the Nazi's asses in noisy crop dusters, and my mom was one of them. Dad was a doctor, my brother was in the war too. They all went down fighting, I can tell you that."
He offered her one of his own rare smiles in return. "I respect that. I lost my family to a war as well. They were good, strong people." He didn't dwell on the memory for long, straightening and heading back up the aisle. "Let's get you guys some radios and stuff. Then we head out."
(Aaand, looks like I do gotta leave, dang it. Seeya probably tomorrow)
(tries to walk in to see who's here)
(runs into the door frame because multitasking sucks like that)
(I guess I'll just get started then, hope the others will join us soon. Heard anything about how Jen's doing today?)
(I hope they're feeling a bit better by now)
Mike led them to another section of the warehouse, where there were crates full of tactical equipment. He found a radio and headset for each of them and handed them out. "I'll be glad to help anyone figure out how to operate these if they're confused."
Pluto took one and fiddled with it for a moment, trying to make sure she could turn it on. She got the radio to crackle to life and then turned it off. "Eh, not too difficult."
"When we get there, we won't know where the demons are. While we're tracking them, I'd like us to use the headsets because it's quieter that way." He paused, running down his mental checklist. "Lesse, weapons…ah, yeah." He rounded the corner and went over to a rack of tranquilizer guns. "Take one that's got a yellow sticker and find a clip of matching darts in that bin over there. After that we'll be ready to go."
"Okay." Pluto grabbed one and a few clips of darts, and managed to find a shoulder strap for the gun. She slung it across her back and pocketed the clips
Mike took them back out into the main yard and stared toward the far side of camp. "Looks like the chopper's getting warmed up. It was a gift from this Clay guy, by the way."
"Well at least this guy gives good gifts," Pluto chuckled
