"Definitely not human. I'm not sure about the dead part though, that doesn't happen often," Asura pointed out.
"Definitely not human. I'm not sure about the dead part though, that doesn't happen often," Asura pointed out.
Pluto folded her arms, wings fluffing up subconsciously. "Well, he definitely didn't seem okay. If I was hunting I would have pegged him as a target."
"Calm down, we talked to him for like .2 seconds." Asura leaned on his staff. "We can check it out after this demon hunt is over."
"Yeah, but .2 seconds is enough for roughly 10 different types of monsters to kill us. And that's just off the top of my head."
"For now, let's just wait. Let him think that we don't have a problem with him."
Pluto rolled her eyes. "I would have known what he was already if I could look at his soul. Sadly, I have to pretend to be non-threatening, which is difficult to do when you can't even hide your wings."
"Why can't you hide them, by the way?" He asked, gesturing to her wings.
"Dunno. I'm assuming dimensional lag."
"Ah," he said, not understanding at all. "I see."
"Different dimensions have different magic barriers. This one seems to not like when I try to hide my wings." Pluto snapped her fingers, and her wings seemed to flicker in and out of existence before staying visible
"That sucks."
(cough)
"That might be because of the Discovery," Mike remarked. "About a year before the war, humans were forced to realize that they shared Earth with magical creatures. Nobody hides their magic anymore, there's no point. It might be that it's actually impossible to hide stuff like wings now, for whatever reason. Not that I'm an expert in the science of Rare Energies, as they're called."
"Okay…." Red said, trailing off thoroughly confused but trying to go with the flow as best as she can without messing up.
"At any rate, you three probably don'r need to worry about Blake. He's my problem, if anyone's. Let's focus on this job and then get out of here."
Mike reached the top of the stairs and the guard grudgingly opened the hatch for them. It was late afternoon by now, and the shadows were lengthening. Mike scanned the forest around them, calculating.
"All right," he said. "Let's run over a few things right quick. Everyone listening?"
"Uh, yes. I think so…" she looked around at the others before allowing all of her attention to Mike.
"Yeah, sure," Asura said, looking up at the clouds.
Mike folded his arms. "We have two demons to find, a male fire demon and a female ice demon. They're currently dating, so I expect they'll be together. The male has a primary form of a winged cheetah. His markings are real colorful, it'll be hard to miss him. The female kind of looks like a silver and gold snake with chicken legs and a feathery crest. Sounds weird, but think of a dragon or something. Both have special collars that keep them from using fire or ice, but we always assume at first that they've lost the collars somewhere, to be cautious. Okay?"
Asura nodded, looking at Mike. "How big are these demons compared to us?"
"Okay then….. are these 'demons' a normal occurrence as well?"
"Yeah, I'd like to know if I'm going to be fighting something the size of a skyscraper."
"They are entirely normal. The male's about the size of the chopper. The female's shorter at the shoulder, but she's part snake so she's a little longer than a school bus. Both of them could knock down trees if they wanted, which is why our number one priority is to keep them calm. If possible, I don't even want them to know we're there. Every step we take until we find them will be with utmost stealth, and you will not fire on them until I give the signal. Any more questions?"
"Oh lovely. A squad of us versus two enormous demons."
"Sounds…. interesting and dangerous. I… like it?"
"It's entirely doable. If I had a few more hours, I could do it by myself. But it all hinges on not enraging them. By the way, good weak points to shoot at are the throat, underbelly, or behind the ears. If they can't reach the dart easily, it's better. The tranquilizer works fast, but not instantly." He unslung his gun and turned on his headset. "Are we ready?"
(If you are, sorry, because I gotta go again aaaarrrghhh. I won't be back till later this afternoon T.T)
