Finn sighed softly, closing his eyes. "I just… didn't figure anybody would be able to look past what I am. Nobody else has besides you and her. Everyone is so scared that we'll bite them and turn society against them too."
Finn sighed softly, closing his eyes. "I just… didn't figure anybody would be able to look past what I am. Nobody else has besides you and her. Everyone is so scared that we'll bite them and turn society against them too."
Irena smiled.
"Well," she said "Beatrice likes you, loves you even, give or take."
Finn nodded, fidgeting with his hands. "That's… cool, I guess." He laughed awkwardly. "I don't really know what to think or say about it, or whatever. I just don't want to break her heart, but… y'know. It's hard."
Irena shrugged.
"I mean, she value's you more as a friend Finn, but she does love you, both ways I guess." She told him. "But overall I think firsthand you're her friend."
"Yeah… that's good, at least. I do like being friends with her." Finn ran his fingers through his hair, looking tired and conflicted. "What do you think I should do?"
Irena shrugged.
"Finn, first you have to figure out how you feel about her." She told "nothing could happen if you don't figure that out first."
She paused and smiled kindly.
"Then, if it turns out, you do like her as much as she likes you, you hav to tell her, or hint at it at least."
Finn sighed again, not really feeling any better. "Yeah, I guess so… I'm just not very good at all this stuff. It's hard to think about." He groaned and sunk under the water for a bit, trying to think, but finding that he couldn't really find an answer that way either.
Irena laughed.
"Sorry Finn," she said "I can't help you with that one, the only person who really knows how you feel about Beatrice is you."
"Well, I definitely don't know." Finn huffed in reply after emerging from the water. He groaned dramatically, wishing somebody else could just think for him.
Irena laughed, then got out of the pool and laid out on her deck chair, turning onto her stomach.
Finn sighed and decided to put it out of his mind for the time being, swimming back out to mess around with Teagan and Beatrice.
Beatrice was wrestling with Teagan and after a bit of groaning she managed to force him underwater, chanting "I won! I won! I WOOOOONNNNNN!" Very loudly.
Teagan was underwater for a few seconds, but then he jumped up and pushed Beatrice off of himself without much trouble. "Aha! It was only a ruse!" He jeered playfully with a dramatic fake accent.
Beatrice laughed and jumped on Teagan and tried to clamber onto his shoulders, like she had with Finn earlier.
Teagan sunk under the water, taking Beatrice under with him. Finn laughed softly, staying out of their way.
Soon, Beatrice realised it was getting dark.
"Honestly guys, we should go inside, it's getting dark." She told everyone and Irena sat up blearily, shoving her sunglasses onto her face and standing up.
"Hmm? Oh, I guess we should. Finn and I should probably head back to our own house, then…" Teagan yawned and stretched as he got out of the water. Finn followed soon after.
Beatrice used her towel to dry off.
"Are you coming back?" She asked casually "you can if you want."
Finn and Teagan looked back at the offer, and then back at each other. "Uh… yeah, sure. Sounds good." Teagan replied. The two of them waved and then headed off to go change into dry clothes.
Beatrice went inside, shut herself in her room and changed into sweatpants and a T-shirt, as Irena did the same. Once Beatrice was done, she trailed back into Irena's room, laying down on her bed closest to the wall.
"I asked him," Irena told her, and Beatrice raised her eyebrows. "He said he'd never thought about it."
"Oh," Beatrice said, flushing "that's fair I guess."
Finn and Teagan changed back at their house. As per usual, their parents didn't make an appearance. The house was dark, quiet, and empty when they arrived. Once they'd changed and dried off, they headed back to Irena and Beatrice's house, letting themselves in through the back door and then heading up to Irena's room.
Irena waited for one of them to open up her bedroom door, she clutched a throw pillow in her hand and threw it at one of the twins and then hid under her comforter.
"Woah!" Finn flinched and Teagan caught the pillow without much difficulty, and then headed over to jump on the bed to start playfully hitting Irena with it.
Irena screeched and Beatrice began attacking Teagan with another pillow from behind.
"I'm going to win this time!" She shouted and laughed.
"Hey, two against one isn't fair! Finn!" Teagan called from the bed. Finn grabbed a pillow as well and joined the fray, although he seemed to be attacking Teagan as well.
