"Yeah, I just think too much," Aurelius said, trying to shake his feelings off.
He ran a hand through his hair.
"Yeah, I just think too much," Aurelius said, trying to shake his feelings off.
He ran a hand through his hair.
Silver wrapped his arm reassurringly around the other's shoulders. "It's gonna be okay."
"Hopefully," Aurelius replied, brushing his hand up against Silver's, "I have a feeling a lot of bad things are upon us."
"That sounds pretty normal." said Silver.
"Bad things happening? Yeah. Seems commonplace nowadays, especially since there are a lot of people who want our kind dead," Aurelius replied, a bit of resentment in his voice- not towards Silver, but towards the situation.
"Yep" said Silver, "Been dealing with it since I was ten. What's a war gonna do?"
"Well, I mean… I'm pretty sure my folks were killed for the same reason, but it's just starting to become a lot more… real, you know? Besides, war means casualties. Large-scale. I'm not ready to see that, and I honestly don't understand why I agreed to come here, because at the end of the day, I'm weak and a coward," Aurelius replied.
"Actually mine were killed by hunters…" said Silver, "And then I got mixed up in other stuff…" he said,
"And you are not a coward alright?"
"Being killed for who you are, I mean," Aurelius clarified, "Being killed for having magic is quite similar to being hunted because you're a half-wolf."
He glanced sideways.
"And thanks for the sentiment, but I'm not sure I believe that."
"You're not a coward alright?" he said, "And nothing can tell me otherwise."
"Inexperienced and scared," Aurelius said with a slight laugh, "Is that more like it?"
"Maybe, but you're not a coward." said Silver, "And I won't demean you like that."
"That's fair enough," Aurelius replied, "You're a little biased, but your opinion doesn't matter any less because of it."
"How am I biased?" asked Silver.
"You happen to like me as a person. We're friends, probably more," he said, "You already have certain opinions on me."
"I guess that's true…" said Silver, "But hey, at least you can trust me to cheer you up?"
"That's right," Aurelius replied, "It helps a lot. And you know, if we can get through all of this, maybe we can finally live our lives in some peace. Just promise me one thing. Please don't put yourself into any more danger than you have to."
"I'll try… but please understand that my healer duties come first.. I have to live up to that, even if it means fighting for the injured."
"That's part of your duty, therefore you have to. I understand. Just don't do anything foolish. You seem more levelheaded than I am, so it's not like I think you will. I just worry," Aurelius answered, "It's only natural."
"I know" said Silver, "But I'll be working with my brother Glaciero. And I'm a decent warrior to so I'm sure I'll be fine.."
"I wonder what they'll have me doing still," Aurelius wondered out loud, "I don't feel like I have much of a spot here. I can't heal. I'm not a great fighter. Septima says I'd be amazing at strategy, but it sure doesn't feel like it. I'm basically a kid compared to some of the guys here who have seen more fights than I have and know how to strategize."
"Who knows, but first we need to figure out what's still up with you."
Aurelius nodded. "Yeah, I'd like to know, honestly. It's eating at me."
"Wait til the moon's out." said Silver, "I can't do anything till then."
"Of course. Should be in a couple of hours," Aurelius said, glancing up at the sun, which was slowly moving westward.
