"I've seen torture before. I've tortured people. But I would never… I'd never do that… I wouldn't say you don't have a heart. You've just probably seen a lot more than I have," Septima replied.
"I've seen torture before. I've tortured people. But I would never… I'd never do that… I wouldn't say you don't have a heart. You've just probably seen a lot more than I have," Septima replied.
Arthur sighed. "No.. I just have no sympathy for them." He said quietly.
"Doesn't make you any less human to not have sympathy," Septima murmured, "Don't feel bad about it."
Arthur sighed, "Does it mKe it any worse if I tell you that I envy them?" He asked.
"The… the imprisoned?" Septima asked, her voice growing even softer, "If that's the case, I'm sure it's not for the same reason I wish I had been captured."
Arthur nodded as she said it. "I envy the situation they're in now. They're lucky."
"What do you mean lucky?" Septima asked, treading the waters carefully with her questions.
"They have it better than I did." Said Arthur flatly.
"Oh… I'm sorry…"
Septima wondered if she should've even gone there, but he had practically been asking her to ask, right?
Arthur took a deep breath. "It's ok Septima." He said gently. "I've been over it for awhile. Though my relationship with my siblings might still be majorly awkward around it."
"There are some things you may never get over, though," she said, "I'm not going to ask for any details, but uh… yeah, it's okay to feel lasting effects from horrible events in your life. It's not fun, but it's not uncommon, of course."
Arthur burst out laughing. "Lasting effects?! Septima those are the least of my problems!"
"Really now?" Septima replied flatly.
She almost started to bare her teeth- her lip curled slightly, but she was able to stop herself. She didn't like being laughed at when she was trying to be a decent person.
Like dwelling on his problems and bringing them up repeatedly, having his family hurt because of what happened, and literally wishing he were in the shoes of other magic users under the worst torture she'd ever seen weren't lasting effects and weren't bothering him a lot.
Arthur lay back on the floor. Getting his control back he sat up and turned to face Septima. "I know I must seem selfish, bringing it up, noting how much it affects my siblings, wishing I could be in those people's shoes?" He looked her dead in the eye.
"I'll say this right off the bat. I'm probably not exactly sane." He said, and I get it alot where people don't understand, because I don't have scars that people see."
“I never said it was selfish. I literally said it’s… okay? And you brushed it off and laughed at me.”
Septima was tense, and her posture closed off.
“But whatever. We have a job to do that’s greater than ourselves.”
Arthur sighed, he was going to say something but decided against it.
Skye sighed. "I just hope you two can live with each other." he said, "And yes, Arthur's sanity has been in question ever since we met."
“As long as I’m respected, I could not care less,” she muttered, shifting around so she could stand up again.
“But even if not, that’s not getting in my way.”
Skye rolled his eyes, heading for the window. "Good luck you two" he said, before disappearing.
"Bye, Skye…" Septima called after, but he was already gone.
She turned to Arthur, but didn't say anything.
Arthur sighed, looking around the room. "Soo…" he said.
"So…?" she replied, flashing him a quick glance, but breaking her gaze away immediately.
She leaned up against the wall again.
Arthur shrugged, feeling slightly awkward. A few moments later he was playing with a violet mist, and changing the color of the coffee table in the middle of the room.
"I just hoped we could get along better," she admitted, walking the length of the room.
"And maybe we still can. Just got off on a worse foot than we intended."
"That would be my fault… and I'm sorry…" he said.
"Not entirely. I can be… touchy, uptight… I've been called a lot of things."
She tilted her head back and kind of laughed at herself.
"We'll work on it. We kind of have to."
