When RinRin had shown up and fell to the ground in pain, she just stared, scared. And when he asked for her help to get rid of the pain, it seemed as if she was frozen, as she just stared at him blankly, not moving a single limb. It was almost as if she was in a trance. She didn't even notice Joel appearing and doing something to help RinRin. It wasn't until the boy collapsed that she snapped out of it and rushed over to him. She had no idea how to help him, but she started muttering words, waving her wand around in circular motions.
Joel remains largely unresponsive; clearly it had something to do with the magic he used.
He shifts slightly and his eyes flutter, but he doesn't awaken.
(Yeah, it’s been a while, but it honestly feels like longer)
Edgeworth recognized this situation all too well; he’s been in it himself many times. But he had no idea how to help. Especially with her.
Franziska looked to the other women, her expression changed, as if she was pleading Maya wouldn’t see her in this pathetic state. She closed her eyes tightly, and, as told, just breathed. Her death grip on Miles’ arm loosening. Finally, she sighed, letting go completely and stepped back.
The man rubbed his arm with a slight wince. “Franziska, what was that all about?” Miles asked sharply, his expression hard to read.
“That wasn’t anything.” She replied, grabbing her shoulder, once again with the Edgeworth scowl.
Maya frowned at Franziska, her eyes filled with something akin to disappointment. "Don't lie, Franziska. We're no fools. You can't just shrug this off and pretend it didn't happen." She paused and sighed. "If you don't want to talk about this now, fine, you don't have to….I just…I want to help you…and I'm sure Miles does too."
Hildegard frowns, as she reads the orange words that appeared over Joel's body. What she was reading…. pointed towards a depleted magical core. "But this only happens if a wizard or witch attempts, but no, that'd be impossible, he did say he had no magic of his own. Unless…" Was the magic becoming part of Joel? It certainly seemed like it. Or perhaps, Joel had magic of his own that he was unaware of? Hildegard had no idea. Normally, a magical core would replenish in a couple of weeks, but they didn't have that time. But perhaps, Hildegard could fix this. Perhaps, she could transfer some of her own magic into Joel. Well, it was worth a try. She took a deep breath, placed one hand on Joel's chest, her other hand holding her wand, and started the magic transfusion.
Joel starts shivering. Something was intruding on his dreams.
He was scared in his dreams. He was watching a long line of lights march through his family's farm, while his siblings all hid and his parents helped them.
He looked down at his hands - he could do this. He could. There was no reason he wouldn't be able to. So with a deep breath he points. A small, yellow-orange orb forms on the tip of his finger as he concentrates. It grows, fast, from the size of an ember to the size of his torso. He aims it, carefully, at the leading edge of the lights. The invaders. And lets it go.
It sails with unerring accuracy towards that leading edge. It finds its mark well. Then all hell breaks loose as the wrath of the gods is wrought upon the world.
Later, he'd wake up and look around at the ashes. He'd stare unbelievingly. But he'd done this. And he was the only survivor. That day, he killed himself for his crime.
He wakes up in a cold sweat to see a strange woman standing over him.
"Who are you?" he asks, scrambling away quickly, breaking their connection.
(The spell that he uses roughly looks like this: https://pin.it/2noJq98)
(And that's literally his only power: he can create a single explosion a year and it always ends up erasing some memories)
Franziska grabbed her shoulder tighter, biting her cheek, her face turning red with shame, and possibly by the medium's words, as well. Judging by her actions, it could be guessed what she had reacted to. Miles seemed to have realized it, glancing at Maya with a worried look. He didn't want to tell her in front of Franziska, for obvious reasons.
Hildegard fell backward onto the ground, and let out a small groan. She was in pain, she was tired and woozy and all of a sudden it was too bright for her. She slowly brought her hand to her eyes, shielding the sun from her eyes, and carefully placed herself in a sitting position, wincing as she did so. She didn't feel offended that Joel had scrambled away. If she had been in his position, she would have done the same thing. "Hildegard…Hildegard Kaiser…at your service…," she said weakly. God, it even hurt to talk. What even happened? Everything was going well, a small flow of magic was being transferred to the boy, and then, all of a sudden, there was this tugging sensation and it suddenly felt like someone was ripping her magic away from her.
Maya watched as Franziska's face turned red. Whether it was out of anger or shame, she didn't know. And then, Miles glanced at her with a worried look, and her heart sank. "I….I just fucked up, didn't I?" God, she hadn't meant to anger her! She just wanted to help her! And here she thought she was making progress with her…..had she pushed her too far? She braced herself for whatever words Franziska was surely about to say to her.
(idk why but having maya think franziska is mad at her and waiting for franziska to tell her to mind her own business and to leave her alone is more fun to me than anything else i could have responded with. also the fact that Maya cursed means she thinks she just 100% ruined something)
There was a good minute of tense silence, as if Franziska would snap at any moment. But… she didn’t. In fact, she felt a twinge of guilt from Maya’s reaction.
The young prosecutor contemplated what to say. She eventually came to the conclusion that…she wouldn’t say anything: instead, visibly deflating, she sighed, thinking for a few more seconds. They’d probably bother her about it if she didn’t admit to this; she weighed the pros and cons, and finally decided that it was worth not being nagged about something so insignificant.
At last, Franziska pushed down her remaining sleeve and revealed her shoulder, where a scar ruined her perfect image.
It’s origins probably hurt like a bitch.
Varuni still just sat in a tree. She figured that if someone needed her, they'd call for her.
(Mmmm, tasty angst)
(one can not live without the angst)
(Truer words have never been spoken)

"Hil. . . degard?" Joel repeats, the statement seeming to be more of a question. He shakes his head slightly. He seemed. . . feral. Like he had no memories.
He slowly backs up more, his form going slightly animalistic as a rush of strength goes through him, with a drawing in sensation.
(Ima just stalk for a bit I can’t really catch up anymore- sorry haha)
(Honestly can’t wait for Fran to meet Joel, I haven’t written her interacting with children before, so it’ll be interesting)
(Me too lol; btw where are are Fran and her partner in relation to Joel?)
(I don’t really know where Joel himself is, but I was thinking Fran and Miles who I’m assuming is the partner you’re referring to are quite a few feet away maybe 15 from the camp. If you were facing them while they were sleeping, they would be to the left of the campsite)
(He was facing roughly their camp when they were sleeping lol; I'll have him go their direction in a bit)
(that was kinda directed towards hildegard so uh)
(RinRin was speaking to Hildegard when he mentioned a witch doctor)
(but he doesn't know everyone's names yet, not officially, so he just said witch doctor)
(okay wait.. Maybe i should actually read before responding LMAO)
