"Buckets. Isn't that a thing? Buckets of fun? I don't know."
"Buckets. Isn't that a thing? Buckets of fun? I don't know."
Jack offered a hand, "Want to talk about it?"
"I can't," she whispered.
Jack nodded and moved his hand back, "Okay."
Caire shrugged. "I'm not familiar with human sayings. Anyways, I like to do this to clear my mind fairly often. It's always fun to come across unicorns and such while I ride."
"I'm sorry," she whispered. Her voice was strangled and tears fell down her face quietly.
"Unicorns? Little Lucy would be ecstatic at that." He chuckled.
Jack said nothing as he embraced her in a hug. A hug wouldn't hurt right?
"Lucy? I mean, honestly, you shouldn't be surprised that there's unicorns. I'm literally riding a griffon right now." Caire laughed, slowing down her pace a bit.
Jack said nothing as he embraced her in a hug. A hug wouldn't hurt right?
Paige accepted, but she didn't seem as joyful as before. Like her energy had been drained or something just from the talk.
"Lucy is my younger sister. And I'm not surprised, just a bit taken back that they're so common."
Jack needed her to get back to her happy self. He tried to make her happier through a hug.
"You see them just a bit less often than deer, I suppose. Most humans can't see them, though. They can't see through the unicorns' concealment charms."
"Oh, interesting. Not what I would've thought."
(Just a bit less often than deer?? Goddamn, that's a lot of unicorns! When you live on the East Coast, you see deer every single day whether you want to or not. Hell, two just walked through my backyard this morning!)
(I don't see deer super often lol. There's this one road that we see them on at a particular time of day, but otherwise they're fairly rare)
"I dunno, some disguise themselves as deer and others just as horses; some even just go invisible! You may not see them, but they're always there."
(I do!)
Jack needed her to get back to her happy self. He tried to make her happier through a hug.
Instead of becoming happier, she cried heavier. "I'm s-sor-rry."
Jack let go. He never knew what to do when girls cried, "Ummmm. Sorry?"
"That's pretty cool. If I told Lucy that, she'd go crazy. Then Annabelle would be stuck calming her down and Carter would be chasing after me with a bat ready to whoop my ass for working her up like that. And of course Kyle would be standing off to the side cracking up and watching me run for my life."
Jack let go. He never knew what to do when girls cried, "Ummmm. Sorry?"
"My mom… She- She- She…"
Jack pulled her back into the hug. He asked softly, "She what?"
"Your other siblings, I assume? I had two older siblings, but they're dead." Caire said simply, looking around the forest.
"Yeah. Annabelle and Carter are my older brother and sister and Lucy and Kyle are my younger brother and sister. I'm the middle child in a team of 5."
"My oldest sister was named Emilae and my brother was named Zacharias. I do not remember much of either." Caire shrugged.
