(Not really…the people I've kinda tried, it seems like I scare them away with my weirdness, or bore them with my inability to communicate the fundamentals of the story to them in a way that makes sense.)
(Not really…the people I've kinda tried, it seems like I scare them away with my weirdness, or bore them with my inability to communicate the fundamentals of the story to them in a way that makes sense.)
(Ah, that sucks. I hope you find someone.)
(Yeah. Let's continue. :)
"Right now," Giovanni said, as if it were obvious.
"Sure… uh, and what would that be?" Drew said, tracing the lines on his hand.
"First, I got a question for ya." He leaned forward in his seat, eyeing Juliette and Drew critically. "You got Italian blood?"
Juliette gave Drew the slightest nudge. "I have an Italian mother."
(me, wanting to make my character pull out a blood bag)
"I've got an Italian grandfather."
( X'D ROTFL )
"Then we must all join hands," he stated, and held out his own. All around the table, the mafioso joined hands. Even Killian, though he looked somewhat reluctant.
Juliette took Drew's hand, and hesitated a moment before allowing the man next to her to give her his.
Drew took Juliette's hand before nervously taking Giovanni's hand. He glanced at Juliette before looking around the table.
Giovanni spoke something in Italian. "Con questa cerimonia accettiamo quelli di sangue italiano nella nostra famiglia. Sulla carta si lascerà cadere il loro sangue, e la carta si incendierà, quindi il loro legame con noi sarà regolato."
Drew only caught a few words but overall he wasn't sure what Giovanni was saying. He nervously swallowed.
Killian stepped forward, and picked up the needle resting on the table.
"Hold out a hand," he instructed. They both offered a hand, as Giovanni spoke again.
"By becoming a part of this family, you must adhere to the rules laid out for our protection. You will learn them all soon enough, and I will tell you of the most important ones now.
"Be loyal to members of the organization. Do not interfere with each other's interest. Do not be an informer….
Be rational. Be a member of the team. Don't engage in battle if you can't win….The directive extends to personal life.
Be a man of honor. Respect womanhood and your elders. Don't rock the boat….
Be a stand-up guy. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut. Don't sell out….The 'stand-up guy' shows courage and 'heart.' He does not whine or complain in the face of adversity, including punishment, because 'If you can't pay, don't play.'
Have class. Be independent. Know your way around the world."
Drew nodded. He saw what was about to happen and prepared himself.
Someone else retrieved the piece of paper on the table as Killian pricked the pointer fingers of Drew and Juliette, a small drop of blood welling up. He took their hands and let the droplets fall onto the paper. Juliette noticed a picture of what looked like a saint on the paper.
The man holding the paper gave it to Giovanni. "This drop of blood symbolizes your birth into our family; we are one until death," he told them. He took up the box of matches, and struck one. Holding it to the edge of the paper, he let the flames catch on before quickly handing it off to the man on his other side. The burning paper was passed around the room, until it reached Drew, who would hand it off to the boss.
Drew, who was feeling rather small, passed the paper to Giovanni. He subconsciously applied pressure to his pointer finger.
Giovanni held the still-burning paper for a moment, gazing at the two of them intently. "The most important rule for you to follow is Omertà. If you reveal us to the world – " The paper crumbled to ash in his hand. " – you will burn, like this saint. No one, not God, nor anyone else, can help you if you rat."
Drew nodded, "We understand." On the inside he was freaking out, that was their entire job!
(Where are they in the world)
(Oh good question, I don't know. Italy?)
(New York? There's mafia families there, supposedly)
(Yeah, that works.)
Juliette was worried.
"Welcome to the Bonanno family," he said warmly, and proceeded to kiss both of them on each cheek. "This friend of ours will be your godfather." An older looking man stepped forward. "He will guide you through your new life."
Drew smiled, "Hello," He said to the godfather.
He gave them a short nod. "Come, follow me," he instructed them, leading them out of the initiation room.
"Are you married?" he asked them, raising an eyebrow.
This question was so absurd to Juliette that she snorted.
"Uh, no. Neither of us are." Drew replied, glancing at Juliette.
"Why are you here together?"
