"Alright, I've explained the theory, now try and put it into practice, but for the whole group. I'll be doing the same." the Doctor said.
"Alright, I've explained the theory, now try and put it into practice, but for the whole group. I'll be doing the same." the Doctor said.
Will nods ans shuts his eyes, focusing. Nico follows. Vix does her best to help the others, biting her lip in concentration. She extends her power to the others. It was a strong and warming force, like a mother's embrace, or a soft blanket on a cold winter's eve.
There was a flash of burning light, even brighter than the light they were surrounded by, and eventually the Doctor came to, while the others, when he glanced over, not moving his head, stirred. An all-white room, with two operatives dressed in white robes, coming down to the knees and closely fitting the form. The only colour was their faces, the grey tables that the group was strapped to, and some blue computer panels. Wait. Strapped to tables. The metal arm cuffs were of a nigh unbreakable material, the Doctor could tell. Trapped. And this place looked like… they had been searching his mind. Their minds. Memories jumbled back together. They had indeed visited the camp, but after that…. an escape attempt, at first. But after that had failed, they were taken here and the process had begun. Trying to probe their minds for any malicious intent. Of all the atrocious things! But somehow, the Doctor's mind had reacted, or maybe Vix's, or both, and tried to protect them by forcing a dream state. The Doctor worked all this out in the first few seconds of consciousness, despite the dizzy, nauseous sensation. He struggled against the arm cuffs. Nothing. The operatives still didn't seem to have noticed him waking up, or the others stirring.
Vix was awake, but she was aware of her surroundings. She looks around with her psychic vision. She takes a deep breath and extends her magic to the others, creating a mental link. Anyone awake? She calls out.
Rather unfortunately, yes. The room is pretty bleak, so you aren't missing anything. the Doctor shot back. Oh yeah, and before you ask, there isn't any way out that I can see as of yet. Don't worry, I'm working on it. he reassured.
Ah, good to see you're awake. Apparently we're the only ones. What's going on from what you can tell so far? I can only see so much with psychic vision and I feel as if someone is standing over me, so I don't want to give off that I'm awake. Are the others okay?
They're fine. Waking up, as far as I can tell. And there isn't anyone near you, that's just paranoia. the Doctor answered. Hmm. He could feel his sonic screwdriver in his pocket. Now, if only he could reach it…
Vix takes a deep breath and tried to relax. She needed to focus on reading out towards the others. Da'in? Oswald? Alison? Joe? Dad? Papa? WAKE UP!
They'll be fine. the Doctor reassured. He shifted on the table, and eventually managed to
A, not grab the attention of the operators, who were seemingly deaf, or otherwise incredibly ignorant.
And
B, grab hold of his sonic screwdriver, use it to free himself and the others who had all at this point woken up, with a headache like their heads had been smashed with a hammer, a familiar sensation to those who frequently found themselves hungover and a sensation entirely appropriate to the moment, since waking up from an unfortunate psychic episode would do that to one. The operators had finally noticed that things were happening, things that it was technically their job to prevent from happening, and they scrambled to remove their guns from their holsters. "Actually, surprisingly enough, I nearly always forget to take into account that not everyone is a pacifist like I am and they actually carry weapons." the Doctor said with a nervous smile.
Vix instantly runs to her parents, kissing their cheeks. She looks at the doctor. "Don't worry." She says softly. "I'm a daughter of Hecate. The goddess of magic. I could make a sheild while you guys get out. It'll take a lot of energy, so move quickly." She says softly.
"Hmm? Oh, I had a better plan. Haven't done this since my eighth regeneration." the Doctor said. "Actually, I tell a lie. Salvador Dalí, Alison?" he asked, then snatched a gun that was idiotically placed on a nearby table. "Stop, or I'll shoot myself!" he ordered, pointing the gun at his chest.
Vix blinks at him, then steps back, looking shocked. Will and Nico instantly step towards Vix, pulling her towards them. She watches the operators with a careful eye.
"You need me and my friends around for something, yes? Well, if I die, you won't have me around to question. Oh, and I'll need seven neural blockers. Six human compatible, with three having a hybrid setting, and one Alreesh compatible." the Doctor snapped. "Get to it!" he shouted. Alison was stunned. The Doctor, the man who never carried a weapon, the man who always left killing as an option never taken, now using a weapon against his enemies. Well, in fairness, he wasn't using it against anyone in the conventional way. The operators, one a dark haired man with a small scar above his left eye, the other a brunette woman with very thick, curly hair, obeyed immediately, handing the Doctor seven small devices, like miniscule circular plates. "Thank you. Now, which regeneration are you on, both of you?" he said. "S-seventh, both of us." the dark haired man said. "Good luck to you both." he said, turning the gun away from himself suddenly and shooting them both. They collapsed, blood spilling out from their bodies. "Run, now!" he ordered. Alison, while complying, was terrified. Was this what the Time Lords has made of the man she thought she knew? A cold-blooded killer? The Doctor swung open a door, ushering the group out with haste.
Vix hesitates when he told them to run, Nico having to push her forwards. She bolts, her breathing unsteady and fast. She stumbled. She rarely used her legs, so they were weak, unable to run long distances. She pushes her father's onwards before trying to stand. She leans against the wall, running to catch up.
"You killed those two! You shot them! They're dead!" Oswald shouted angrily as they hastily moved down the corridor. Da'in noticed that Vixianne was struggling to keep up, so he fell back and went to support her, picking her up and running back to the rest of the group. "It was them or you." the Doctor said coldly. "I don't care! You killed two innocent people!" Oswald argued. "Really? You think anyone on this planet, anyone who supports the Time Lords' cause is innocent? Well, the difference is, when you die, you stay dead." he shot back. "So do they!" Ozzie snapped. They came up to a lift, and he ushered them all inside. "We're on Gallifrey, Ozzie. Did I mention? Death is Time Lord for man flu." he said calmly, and after a few buttons were pressed, the lift shot downwards.
(Hey, just got back from choir and I'm for once in my life not feeling crippling depression since my grandparents were there and I don't get to see them all that often, so that's cool. How are you doing?)
I'm okay, thanks. I'm glad to hear that you're doing better//
Vix leans into Da'in's touch. She was exhausted. She had used so much magic and she had so little energy. She relaxed, calming down as she was carried. Will and Nico nod gratefully to him, glad to see her reacting with someone other than them. Nico looks at the doctor. "You had a fair reason. If I had to choose between my daughter and people threatening me. I would have to say I would choose Vix. But you could have chosen a less… Bloody tactic."
"It was the quickest, as well as the safest for you all, tactic I could have used." the Doctor said darkly. Soon, they came down to a darkened, stony area, with vines crawling up the pillars, ornately carved symbols on the floor. "The Cloisters. We're safe here." he nodded. Screams and moans echoed throughout the chamber. "Well, mostly safe. Come on."
Vix looks around, her eyes filled with wonder. She looks at he parents and then at Da'in. "Thanks for carrying me." She mutters softly. She was a small thing, and she was very light, but she always felt like she was burdening the person who was carrying her.
"It was no trouble. No man or woman left behind." Da'in smiled, setting her down. "The Cloister Wraiths. Sliders, we used to call them. They guard the Matrix. We're safe in here." the Doctor said. There were shadowy figures gliding about the corridors, you couldn't quite make out their figures. "Why?" Da'in asked. "They only attack if you make any attempt to leave." the Doctor said calmly. "How long are we planning to stay?" Ozzie asked. "Or, actually, if you try to stay." the Doctor added. "You realise how well that conversation went, right?" Alison snapped. "Starting to, yeah, a bit." the Doctor admitted. A Wraith glided past, howling in terror, its face flickering. It was wearing tattered red robes with golden lining, as well as a rounded high golden collar that towered about three inches tall above the head, circular, like a moon, and ornately carved with the circular, geometric symbols that made up the Gallifreyan language. The figure was wearing a matching gold skull cap, but the face was strange. It seemed to be a holographic projection, it's face contorted in a permanent scream. The sound of ringing bells echoed through the area. "The Cloister Bells. They ring in times of great danger. Gallifrey must be really scared for the whole Cloister to be sounding off." the Doctor chuckled, but it was bitter, spiteful.
Vix let's out a small cry of fear, wishing for once in her life she could be blind again. She clings to Da'in, fear making her small body shiver. She didn't like the noise, the chaos going on around her. It made her extremely frightened. She clings onto Da'in as they hurry through the caverns, trying to keep calm.
"Listen, let's make our way out of here, and quickly." Joe said. Alison moved towards that Doctor. "Doctor? What did that woman, the dream woman, er, psychic projection thingy, tell you? Before she faded out, I mean?" Alison asked him. "It was a question." he said stiffly. "And? What did she ask? Miss Grant, I mean." Alison clarified. "She asked… she asked…. can you hear the ticking? It was rather strange, a friend of mine once asked me that same thing. Well, I say friend. Well, it was more a computer. "This way, I'm fairly sure. According to the stories, there's a secret way out. If you find it, the Sliders let you go." the Doctor said, leading them through a corridor. There was yet another lift, it looked like it had been used relatively recently. "Why don't we leave in that?" Oswald asked. "Sliders. That, and it could take us anywhere, and I don't want to get back up on Gallifrey at the moment." the Doctor explained.
Will and Nico were conversing quietly, making sure to keep an eye on their surrounding. Will glances at Vix who was hidden in Da'in's shoulder at the moment. She looked so scared… So vulnerable. It made his brows furrow in concern. He sighs quietly and looks down.
"Ah. Right." the Doctor stepped about a yard to the left, and scratched at a thick layer of dust and dirt with his foot. "Looks like the primary service hatch. Just have to work out the key. Once I get all the dust off. Stay away from the Sliders, that's really all I need you to do at the moment." he said. A few moments of silence. Then;
"When Time Lords die, their minds are uploaded to a thing called the Matrix. This structure, it's like a living computer. It can predict the future, generate prophecies out of algorithms, ring the Cloister bells in the event of impending catastrophe. The Sliders, they're just like the guard dogs, the firewall. Projections from inside the Matrix itself. The dead, manning the battlements." the Doctor stated, as if spewing technobabble would be any help. "Was I supposed to understand any of that?" Alison asked sarcastically. "The Time Lords have got a big computer made of ghosts, in a crypt, guarded by more ghosts." the Doctor simplified. "Why would a computer need to protect itself from the people who made it?" Alison asked. "All computers do that in the end. You wait until the internet starts. Oh, that was a war!" he laughed. "I really cannot tell if you're serious or joking at this point." Alison said. "Er, Vix? You're crushing my arm." For such a small girl, she had a strong grip, Da'in noticed. Not that he really minded. If it wa helpful to her, it would get them out more efficiently, and his family and her's could be safe as well.
Will looks at the Sliders. "Since they're 'the fire wall' what happens if we mess up?" He asks as he turns towards the doctor, tapping a finger against his hip. He could understand basic technology since Leo was always babbling about it and introduced wifi to the campers, with a way to make sure that the tech wouldn't go haywire around them or attract mosnters. Leo's kid, Stella was a close playmate for Vix when they were little, and Leo would often come to their house and hang out as the girls played.
Vix blushed softly, "Oh! Sorry, Da'in. They're just so… Scary…" She mutters softly. "I can barely sense something off them. It's freaky." She mumbles into his shoulder.
