He didn't want to stay much on the subject of family and isolating his own life to focus on others was something he usually did. "Was it really hot there?" Cosmo heard a lot about the heat in the west and wanted to confirm if it was true.
(I'm sorry. It's probably best that I leave this.)
“I would say it wasn’t as hot as people think, but that’s only because…. I…. got used to it…” He found himself awkwardly spacing out at the wrong time. Lee managed to get himself out of it and continued as if nothing had happened. “But the drought made things five times as hot, and it was miserable for us…” It was really awful, but I’m sure it’s still going on…
"Oh," Cosmo said in sudden realization as to why he lost everything. He thought they didn't pay taxes or were in debt so they couldn't handle it. Loosing your whole life and family and having to quickly change to a completely different place and adapt to the changes was hard and he knew a lot about that. "What'd you like most about the place?"
“Nothing really that interesting,” Lee muttered. “I always enjoyed the wide open sky, and the clear nights when my neighbor and I would stargaze or something like that…” He tried his best not to make it sound awkward to Cosmo, but he said it like it was. “Those were good times… and because it was so warm, you didn’t need a coat when you were out late.”
"I like stargazing, especially when camping because the city lights aren't there and you can see a lot of the universe at the middle of the night." He said with a delightful sigh at the end. He remembered when he used to do that as a kid with his siblings. They would sneak out of the house and climb over the fence, away from the lights to see the stars. They had to take the large flashlights to find there way to a forest behind their home.
“True….” This guy’s pretty insightful… “I mean…. I felt like I could just escape into my own fantasy…. even though I enjoyed my life with my father, it was nice to just slip away from reality.” Lee rubbed his hands together nervously and glanced away. Don’t spoil it… you finally met someone else with at least one frickin’ thing in common…
"I like that too, sadly I can't do it much since I'm an adult, but as a kid I used to make an alternate reality, away from everything going on. I was able to convince myself that in the future, I would create a time machine to fix all mistakes or anything embarrassing from happening and when I did it, I would think, 'Oh, I'll fix it when I have my machine.'. I was so immersed in it that I didn't realize that it could never happen and I had a mental breakdown. I got over it but I was so deep into it." Wow, that was a lot of information. He thought to himself after what he said. He never even told those things to his close friends but he did with a stranger. There's something about him. "Sorry for my ramble."
“It— It’s fine.” Better than having you listen to my life on a fucking potato farm… “It sounds interesting… You know…..” Lee began to trail off, afraid of Cosmo’s response. “I’ve never really gotten to know anyone else on a personal level, since I’m always on the move and such….” Speaking of which, I should get going before someone kicks me out.
(sry everyone, I might leave this rp,)
(It’s okay— it seems like I was the only one dedicated to rps anyway. But goodbye grace)
"I want to take that as a compliment but you sound kind of unsure." He said while chuckling slightly. "I can say the same for you though."
Lee didn’t really want to ask, but he wanted to know. “What? Are you always on the move too?” I wasn’t sure how else to put it… “I… I don’t really have anywhere to stay, so that’s why I haven’t stayed anywhere for longer than a day…” Don’t tell me I said that too obviously….
"I guess you could say that. It's… complicated but I meant about knowing someone on a more personal level. I haven't had the time to do that in years." He sighed again before continuing. "But it's nice meeting someone like you. You're easy to talk to."
“W— what makes you say that?” Lee found it odd that anyone else besides those he knew prior would say he was easy to have a conversation with. “I’m just sharing stuff…. It’s… it’s all that I’m really doing.”
"Yea but, I guess I could relate on some of those things." Cosmo thought the other person felt the same but instead they were self-doubting. He softly placed his hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eye. "You're doing much more than sharing stuff. I've never had a conversation like this in years and I don't think it'll happen again. You've made my day and I can't thank you enough for them. You actually listen to what I have to say and don't criticize like others."
Lee felt a spaz of nerves where Cosmo put his hand. It wasn’t necessarily awkward, but he didn’t have a feeling it was right, either. I’ll just go with it… “I guess people find me more understanding than they think I am….” He glanced away, realizing at that point, the people in the nightclub were a bit less rowdy and noisy as they had been. “I’m debating whether to get back on the road again…” But I feel so welcomed here…. “I….” He wasn’t sure what more to say.
Cosmo removed his hand after what he said and listened to what Lee had to say. "If you want to go then go. No one's holding you back but I hope you have some place to stay. I would hate to see anyone out on the streets these days."
“That’s the thing….” Lee glanced away in humiliating shame. “I have no place to stay. Since I lost everything, I was never able to get back up.” His lip curved as he resisted the urge to cry. “And…. well, I’m sure I’ll have to leave this place unless this place is open twenty-four-seven.” He didn’t want to leave the club until it was absolutely necessary— and same thing applyed to Cosmo. Where am I going with this conversation?
Cosmo looked away quickly, trying to think of ways to get this guy some shelter for the night. He took out his phone and texted his friend if he had an extra place for Lee to sleep in but he didn't mention Lee. His friend had one last room that only had a bed and bathroom but he felt like it was enough. "Okay, I got you a place to stay for the night, or at least until you get back on your feet and you can't reject it."
(I feel like this is drifting away from the nightclub setting, but who cares? It’s just us at this point)
The sound of his words seemed a bit harsh. “I can’t turn it down? What’s that supposed to mean? I—“ Lee quickly decided he was making things harder than they needed to be. “Thank you. It’s been so long since I’ve actually slept in a bed… but just to clear things up, where exactly am I staying…?” This is getting more and more outlandish… no one would ever give me a place to stay, let alone spare a penny…
(Nooooooo, where’d you go?)
(school)
"Yeah of course you can't turn it down. I won't let a guy like you sleep out on the streets because of nature. People who don't know just say you were a drug addict or you'll spend money on alcohol." He said, since he knew this stuff from experience. "You'll be staying in a… motel of some sorts. It's nearby some gas station so there might be quite a lot of noise in the night but it's better than nothing."
(Lol I thought you left for good— understandable :D welcome back.)
Lee got up, cracking his back to get the stiffness out of his spine. “Then…. does that mean we’re leaving now?” He glanced at the clock, noticing it was nearing twelve midnight. This guy’s unbelievable… but it’ll be great to get washed up and have a legitimate place to sleep….
