(Sweet name!)
Scarlet donned her black cape, pulling the hood up over her hair, and slipped into the bustling market. As she walked through she purposefully bumped into people, discretely taking little things like bracelets, rings, and gold coins. When she took something, she put it in one of the many hidden pockets of her cape.
(thanks!)
As Krystal browsed the market looking for the blacksmith's shop, she felt someone brush against her arm and start to slip off her cuff. She rolled her eyes, spun around, and grabbed their wrist. It was a girl wearing a hood. A thief, based on the hand on Krystal's cuff
"I don't think so, girl," Krystal said, smirking
Scarlet's eyes opened wide as she stared at the girl who held her wrist. Nobody ever caught her, she was much too careful to let that happen. She tried to yank her wrist free, but the girl held it fast and didn't let go.
"Look, I'm just trying to get food for myself, okay?" Scarlet blurted, trying her hardest to get out of the sticky situation.
Without releasing the girl, Krystal darted into the space between two nearby stalls,
"Based on the jingling in your pockets, I'd say you have quite enough to buy a meal," she said, "Why did you try to take my cuff?"
Normally, Krystal would have dismissed such an encounter, but she was curious. It was rare that someone got that close to her without her noticing. She wanted to know how the girl managed it.
Scarlet yelped as she was dragged into the stall. When the girl asked her a question, she scoffed. "Okay, you caught me," she said, sarcasm dripping off her words. "If I don't bring back enough loot, they'll kick me out. They're brutal, okay?" She raised an eyebrow as she made her last statement, looking the girl dead in the eye.
"Who will kick you out?" Krystal asked, her curiosity growing. There was a strange energy around this girl, one Krystal had not encountered for a long time.
Scarlet glanced around to make sure that nobody was around. Once she was satisfied that no one would be listening to their conversation, she said simply, "The Sapphire Bandits."
"Right," Krystal snorted, "and i'm a Shape Shifter"
Krystal had encountered the Bandits before. Gotten into a nasty fight with a couple, walked out with a couple bruises. How could this girl be a Sapphire Bandit? She looked barely 17 or 18, what would she doing with that band of thieves?
"No, really. I'm- Wait, you're not really a Shifter, are you?" asked Scarlet.
Well, that was a stupid question. Of course she's not! she thought to herself.
"No. Never mind. I'm so stupid sometimes," she said, mumbling the last part.
"No, I'm not," Krystal rolled her eyes with a smirk, then muttered under her breath "But I'm as human as one"
"Anyway… Yeah, I'm actually a Sapphire. Youngest one to join, matter of fact," Scarlet said haughtily. "Got a problem with that?"
"nah, you're not the only one who's gotten into something at a young age" Krystal said, "tell you what, I'll buy you lunch and in exchange, you'll explain how you wound up with the Bandits. Deal?"
Scarlet narrowed her eyes at the stranger in front of her. "Why would you do that? I literally just stole your cuff," she wondered in suspicion.
"Well, technically you didn't steal it, and it wouldn't have come off anyway. Plus, I'm curious" Krystal replied, "It's not every day you meet a thief prodigy."
Scarlet scoffed. Prodigy. I wish, she thought.
"Okay, deal," she agreed reluctantly. "Where to?"
"How about the Dusty Swan? They've got decent chicken," she replied, already walking away. As she turned, her cloak swished to the side for a moment, revealing the long dagger sheathed on her leg.
Who is this girl? Scarlet thought, seeing the long dagger attached to her leg. Whatever. She's buying me food.
"Sounds good," she said, catching up with her. Suddenly, a loud growl sounded from her stomach, and she glanced at the girl to see if she noticed.
Krystal heard the girl's stomach growl but didn't react. She'd been hungry before and knew it was hard to admit that weakness. As they walked, she looked at the girl striding along beside her.
"what's your name, anyway?" she asked
