Jacob backed away slowly, but Kemp held his ground and smirked, “No.”
"What is your problem? You gotta bad home life or something? " Alistair hissed. "Well, guess what? Mine's hell! But you don't see me being a bloody b*****d! Now tell me where Chase is or oh-so-help-me I'll beat you to a pulp!"
Kemp was about to say some witty retort, but Jacob interrupted nervously, “He’s outside. By the dumpsters.” Kemp turned and glared at his friend, but Jacob gave him a look and whispered, “Not today, not on school grounds.”
"Finally!" Alistair exclaimed with another glare at Kemp. "I will never forget this."
He wasted no time running to the back of the cafeteria, where the dumpsters were located. He looked around frantically but didn't see Chase.
"Chase?! Chase are you out here?!" he cried. "Oh, stars, please be okay!"
“Al-Alistair?” Came a weary voice from inside the dumpster, “Is that you?” Chase was sitting in the corner of the dumpster, a bruise already forming on his eye and a large metal beam keeping his arm pinned to the ground.
"CHASE!"
Alistair ran over to the dumpster and threw the lid open.
"Oh my gosh, Chase…" he cried. He jumped in the dumpster and lifted the beam off of Chase's arm. "Let's get you out of here." As he helped Chase out of the dumpster, Alistair's hate for the two bullies hit a new level.
How dare they…
“Hey,” Chase said wearily, rubbing his arm, “I’m sorry,” He said added, looking at the ground leaning against the side of the dumpster when he got out. Everything hurt. He looked up at Alistair through his swelling eye, “I’m really sorry.”
Alistair gently wrapped his arms around Chase and pulled him into a hug, cupping the back of his head and holding him close.
"You have absolutely nothing to be sorry for, Chase, none of this is your fault," he said softly.
"Let's go to my cousin, Kelsey's, house; you can clean up there and borrow some of my clothes."
Chase pulled away shamefully, “B-But it is my fault. I- Well, I-“ Chase tucked his head in Alistair’s shoulder and the tears started, then it all tumbled out, “I threw the first punch. It- Kemp threw an apple at the back of my head and- and- and he and Jacob kept teasing me so I-I punched him. And- And then this happened.” Chase sniffed hard, trying to hold it in.
Alistair pulled back and cupped Chase's face, wiping his tears away with the pads of his thumbs.
"Do not say that," he said softly, looking Chase in the eyes. "You were standing up for yourself, and their reaction was uncalled for. Nothing they have ever done is your fault."
He took Chase's hand and gave him a gentle smile. "Come on, let's get out of here."
“O-Okay,” Blue agreed with a sniffle, trying to make a smile of his own and failing. Maybe it was the dumpster Chase was sitting in, but he just felt so… so disgusting, and small, and unworthy of Alistair’s friendship.
Alistair led Chase to his car in the front parking lot, holding his hand the whole time.
"Kelsey lives about fifteen minutes away," he said. "She's nice, and she'll be happy to help. Plus, I have some extra clothes there you can wear."
Once they were in the car and driving out of the parking lot, Alistair took Chase's hand again, tracing small circles on the back with his thumb.
Chase appreciated Alistair being there. He was so nice and comforting. Chase just wanted the day to be over, but Alistair made it bearable enough to get him through. He glanced at Alistair, “Thank you.”
(Gtg soon, see you later :)
(aww okie)
(Annnnnddd I’m back :)
(yaaayyyyy)
(missed you!)
(Awww, I’m touched 😊)

Alistair smiled at him. "I'm glad I can help," he said quietly, squeezing his hand. "What are friends for?"
A couple of minutes later, they pulled into his cousin, Kelsey's, driveway. He went around the car and opened the door for Chase. "You ready to meet my cousin?"
“Okay,” Chase nodded his head weakly and followed Alistair. He didn’t know what he would’ve without him. Chase probably would’ve still been in that dumpster if he had never met Alistair.
(After that scene with Kelsey, let's do another time jump to the next day)
Alistair took Chase's hand and led him up to the front door. He knocked, then stepped back and waited, squeezing Chase's hand for comfort. Not five seconds later, the door opened to reveal a mid-twenties, dark-haired woman.
"Hey, Alistair," Kelsey said, then apparently noticed Chase's injuries. "Woah, dude, come in, you need an ice pack, stat." She ushered them inside and led the way to the kitchen. "Sit here; I'll get my first aid kit."
Chase found comfort in being able to hold Alistair’s hand. It was just a little thing that made it so much bearable. Chase sat down and let his shoulders sag a little. His arm and eye did really hurt. He waited for Kelsey to come back before introducing himself, “I-I’m Chase.”
"Nice ta meetcha, Chase," Kelsey replied with a smile while making an ice bag. "I'm Kelsey O'Connell, one Alistair's moms, Elise, was my dad's sister." She handed him the ice bag.
While they were introducing themselves, Alistair had gotten out some bandages and ointment for Chase's bruises.
"Here, show me where the bruises are," he said to Chase. "Once we bandage you up, we can go upstairs and you can change clothes."
