Yano wrote on her pad again, I cant speak, so that’s probably why. It’s happened at every school, so it’s not new. she showed him the message. Yano sighed and rested her head on her hand.
Vaughn glanced over the writing, his brows raising a tad at that. This girl couldn’t speak? Maybe he wasn’t the only one who was a bit different, then. “I understand,” he said with a nod. “What’s your name?”
I’m Yano, what’s your name? even though she was pretty sure it was Vaughn, she wanted to make sure.
“Music can be a tough business, but I think you could do it. You’re really good.” Chase said, then mused, “You could even make a band I’m sure.”
"Thanks for the encouragement," Alistair said, just as happy as Chase to have made a friend. "But as much as I want to, I'll probably end up studying law like my uncle," he shook his head again and smiled. "But I won't worry about that right now." He repositioned the guitar and began to play, singing a song close to his heart.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ELStHxDdZ68)
(@LeafyLemur, I thought it was Yano lol.)
Sorry, I’m getting all my names mixed up! •A•//
(It’s all good.)
Vaughn read the paper before looking back at the girl, Yano. “Vaughn, it’s nice to meet you,” he said. He was almost surprised that Yano was willingly having a normal conversation with him. The only people he had those with anymore were his doctors and therapists.

Chase listened to the music. Alistair was a beautiful singer too. Chase closed his eyes, relaxing against the couch. Chase wanted his friend to become a musician, it was clear what Alistair’s dreams were. Chase thought momentarily on what he wanted to do. Probably programming, what he already knew, but he didn’t feel like it suited him as music suited Alistair. Chase would think on it later, for now he just listen to Alistair.
As he sang the song he knew by heart, Alistair closed his eyes and imagined what it would be like if he actually went into the music industry. It would be a dream come true, but he knew that's all it would ever be. A dream. His uncle thought music was pointless and he would never be successful, and his aunt just went along with his uncle.
As he finished the song, he opened his eyes and looked at Chase.
I hope he liked it…
Chase opened his own eyes when the music finished it’s last note, “That was-“ beautiful, amazing, spectacular, brilliant, “The most magnificent thing I’ve ever heard. You are so amazing, Alistair, you just have to try it in the music business.” Chase said resting his head on the side of the couch as he looked at Alistair, “I wanna hear it again and again.”

Yano nodded and sighed sadly. She stared into space, but to anyone else she was staring at Vaughn, and bit her lip, thinking about what would happen when she got home.
“Everything alright?” Vaughn asked, feeling a bit uncomfortable when Yano began to stare at him. He wasn’t fond of very close attention, as it just made him anxious.
Yano snapped out of it and tilted her head, Sorry, what was that? I spaced out for a moment. she wrote and smiled apologetically.

Alistair blushed bright red and rubbed the back of his neck. "Oh, umm, thanks, Chase," he said, suddenly shy. "My moms taught me that one, it's a favorite of mine." Setting the guitar down, he reached for his apple and took a bite.
“Oh, that’s fine. You were staring, so I asked if you were okay..” Vaughn told Yano, running a hand through the thicker section of his hair as he spoke. He glanced away, knee bouncing as his eyes flicked around the cafeteria.
Yano’s cheeks felt warm with embarrassment, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to! I’m really sorry! Yano showed the message and buried her face in her arms, ‘Man, you’re great at making friends,’ she thought, giving herself a mental eye roll.
Vaughn’s brows raised at Yano’s embarrassment, and he shook his head a tad. “It’s alright, you didn’t mean to,” he told her. He considered tapping her on the arm to get her attention as well, but he thought against it.
Yano nodded from her position in her arms. She got embarrassed very easily and had a short temper. Yano sighed and finally rested her chin on her crossed arms. She didn’t reach for her pencil and paper, instead mouthing, “Sorry.”

“If you ever start making music for a career, I want to be the first to know. I also want to have a front row seat,” Chase proclaimed with a smile, “You really are the best of the best, Alistair!”
Alistair was very flustered at this point. He didn't think he was all that good.
"Thank- thanks, that means a lot," he said, his cheeks scarlet, then his face turned a bit sad. "I wish you could meet my moms, they would have loved you. They were always supportive of my music and even taught me some songs, like the one I just played."
It suddenly made sense why Alistair was okay with him being gay, since he had two moms. Chase always thought it helped if someone was friends or relatives with someone of the LGBT+ community. But Chase heard Alistair use past tense, and he smile faded to a concerned look, “Are they, um, okay?” He didn’t exactly want to say ‘dead’ in case it happened recently and upset Alistair.
Yano nodded from her position in her arms. She got embarrassed very easily and had a short temper. Yano sighed and finally rested her chin on her crossed arms. She didn’t reach for her pencil and paper, instead mouthing, “Sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry,” Vaughn told Yano directly this time. He had gotten slightly decent with reading lips, as he tended to eavesdrop on his foster parents conversations from afar.
Alistair looked down at the guitar. "They passed away a few years ago. A drunk driver hit them. I moved in with my aunt and uncle, who was the brother of Lana, one of my moms. They… don't care for me much," he said with a bitter smile. "They remind me of Kemp and Jacob, actually."
Why am I telling him all of this…? We just met… But he's really nice…
“I’m so sorry,” Chase said immediately and hugged Alistair once again, “That’s terrible.” Chase didn’t want to make Alistair uncomfortable, but he felt like a hug always seemed to help. And Chase was a hugger.
Alistair gladly hugged back. "Thanks, Chase. I'm glad I met you," he said quietly, then brightened a bit. "Hey, you wanna meet me here after school? We can do homework and I can play guitar."
“Yeah, that sounds like a lot of fun,” Chase smiled again, happy to see Alistair brightening up. He finished his sandwich with a few bites and looked a the time, “Lunch is almost over,” Chase pointed out.
