“I care about you guys, but as friends. I have family and many more friends and true love and an end to all of this suffering when I die. I won’t have to have the nightmares of my past life when I die.”, Yuki said, the hope back in her eyes. “I really hope you understand. I’ll miss you, but I miss everyone else.”
Rowan looked at Yuki, unsure of what to say. She pulled her in close for a hug, crying weakly into her shoulder.
"Your opinions on the Smoke Society aren't at all relevant," Nyir shot back, grabbing the girl and restraining her wrists. "Tomorrow morning, you battle Kodiak. It's not a choice."
(D'X)
“Rowan, it’s alright.”, Yuki wrapped her arms around her. She is crying for me. She cares about me. “Thank you for always being here for me.”, Yuki said. “I’m sorry I won’t always be there for you.”
Rowan nodded, slowly releasing Yuki with a quiet sob. "L-Let's go. I wanna see Kodiak." She stammered, her voice hoarse and her throat raw. "I want to get water too." Rowan added, lightly tugging Yuki towards the stairs.
“I’ll get you some water. Then we’ll see Kodiak.”, Yuki said. “But promise me you’ll never end up like me.”, she said.
Rowan let out a shaky breath of air, frustration rising in her chest. "I promise." She mumbled. I promise I'm going to help you. No matter what it takes. She vowed silently.
Yuki and Rowan walked together to get water from Armand’s office. “While we’re at the office we should see about getting help from Armand to break out Kodiak.”, Yuki said. They turned a corner. “We need to break out Kodiak as soon as possible.”
"I don't think he'll help us… Not without a lot of convincing." Rowan was secretly dreading entering Armand's office. Just a few hours ago she'd been traumatised. She knew it was to save her life, but that didn't stop the memory of excruciating pain from plaguing her thoughts. She trailed behind Yuki, becoming slightly more reluctant to walk the closer they got. "Maybe you should try to convince him while I wait outside and keep watch for Nyir." She offered, her palms growing sweaty as they turned down another hallway.
“You can do this Rowan. You’re stronger than you think. I still went to my old cell, after all.”, Yuki said.
"I'm not as strong as you, Yuki." Rowan sighed. "I'll just be right outside. Armand won't give you any trouble." She tried to assure her.
“No, but Rowan you are strong! You somehow have still found a way to be kind even in this war! You hold on to what you believe in no matter what! It isn’t about how strong you are physically! It’s not about what we do, it’s about why we do it!”, Yuki said. “I believe in you Rowan. If I could go through that everyday, someone as strong as you can go into that office one more time.”
"Yuki!" Rowan broke into smile, playfully nudging her. "Thanks for that." Her voice softened. She still felt nervous about entering Armani's office, but she had Yuki with her this time. Yuki would protect her. Rowan knew that as a fact.
“Ready?” Yuki smiled. “I’ll be with you the whole time.”
"Y-Yeah…" Rowan took a deep breath and nodded.
Yuki opened the door to Armand’s office. “Well, good thing it wasn’t locked. Armand would not be happy if I had to kick down the door.”, she said, hoping to lighten the mood a little. She walked in and took a water from the cooler.
Rowan followed slowly at Yuki's heels, her muscles tense and her eyes fixed on the floor.
Yuki waved hello to Armand and headed out. Once they were out of the office Yuki asked, “Wasn’t that bad, was it?”
Rowan shook her head quietly, eying the water in Yuki's hand. "Are we gonna see Kodiak now?" She asked, trying to quickly change the subject.
“Of course!” She handed Rowan a water. “We have to be careful about security and all, but yeah.”
(oof prolly a bad time to say i'm going to bed but ummm)
"Thanks, Yuki." Rowan gratefully accepted the water, drinking it while they walked. "Hopefully he's okay." She muttered worriedly.
