Rowan shrugged, looking up at the stars again. "You know I heard this old folk tale once. It was from someone we captured back at the rebel base. He told me every star in the sky was someone who died without a purpose. So that they could shine for once, you know? That was a long time ago…" Rowan trailed off. Her eyes drifted blindly around the barren top of the building. She was lost in another time. Her five year old self sneaking into the prison cells after being dared to. The old man had called out, his hair grey and his blue eyes glassy and unseeing.
Armand found himself travelling up the stairs, to the roof. He'd normally take a brisk walk in the woods for his fresh air, but he was too tired for that, so he'd settle for stargazing. The stairs didn't treat him much better, though, he was wheezing by the time he reached the top, and his leg ached. He righted himself after a moment and looked immediately up to the sky. It was more clear tonight than usual. He walked to the edge of the roof, looking down at the grounds below and on into the forest. The wind blew.
It reminded him of a song, that he'd heard rebels and loyalists alike sing, though he didn't know the words. He hummed it low, lingering, and clear. As he focused his eyes on the stars above, the song changed from a hum to an 'ooo'. He was glad that though his eyes weren't real, he could still see the real world with them.
(He's on like, the opposite side of the roof from a different exit.)
(Also Armand was a child already with a weak immune system, so a hard past has damaged his body and makes it impossible to keep fit due to pain. He's just a little more than skin and bone.)
Yuki looked up at the stars. There was hope in her eyes. “I’ll die as a star, huh? Not bad.”
(tbh that's so cute, All that)
(this whole rp is cute :P)
"Not if I can help it." Rowan smiled, the stars reflecting in her eyes. She turned around as she heard a familiar hum. An old tune her parents often sang to her as a child. Turning around she saw Armand, facing the opposite direction. He obviously hadn't noticed Yuki and Rowan were there. "I may not live to see our glory." Rowan sang softly, but loud enough so Armand could hear her. "But I will gladly join the fight." She closed her eyes, picking up in volume. "And when our children tell our story." Rowan inhaled deeply, enjoying the fresh air. "They'll tell the story of tonight." She opened her eyes again, exhaling slowly.
(Idk if you guys are fans of Hamilton, but this song is "The Story of Tonight" from the cast soundtrack.)
Armand's shoulders shifted, his golden eyes glowing softly in their direction, before he quickly turned back around. I haven't felt embarrassment in a long time, the thought crept up, though he quickly dismissed it along with a blush he felt rising to his face. No one except Nyir really knew him outside of his professional little world. But, well, he didn't stop humming. He didn't really know the song but he liked the message the girl was singing. As relaxed as he felt for a moment, he didn't know how to feel all at the same time.
(this is such a beautiful scene ugh the imagery and song are amazing I'm crying)
(I'm right there with you! D'X)
“Armand?”, Yuki called out. “Is that you?”
(HAMILTRASH REPORTING FOR DUTY)
The song drifting hypnotizingly down the hall caused Kodiak to stop short. "R-Rowen? Where are you?"
Rowan stopped mid-verse at the familiar sound of Kodiak's voice. She scrambled to her feet, half falling over. "Kodiak?!"
Armand was quickly snapped out of the moment. He jumped, stopping his humming and listened. Now wouldn't be a good time for them to meet up with Kodiak, but he didn't know how to defuse the situation without an explosion. He wanted to tell them that he'd be fine tomorrow, but he also didn't know if they'd trust him, and if someone found out he told them…
"Rowan! Where are you?" Kodiak scanned the hall frantically, sticking his arms out of the bars and leaning on the metal barrier with all his might. "Are you alright?"
"Yuki and I are on the roof! We're fine!" Rowan yelled in response, crawling over to the hatch and opening it up so she could hear him better. She couldn't make it back down the steps without Yuki's help.
Yuki heard Kodiak yelling. “Kodiak! You alright!?”, she asked.
"Armand." Rowan called out, looking over at him. "Is he okay?" She asked, wanting to be prepared for whatever she might see.
Petree felt infuriated. Was Nyir enjoying this? Seriously?
"He won't have the guts to kill me!" she burst out, "we're friends! Are so you wrapped up in your society that you don't understand friendship?"
Ainnik looked back up at the window he'd pulled Petree from. President Harris's sword was still there.
Ha, Ainnik thought triumphantly, I'll be President Harris's most trusted advisor after I return her sword. That thief Petree.
Inside, he felt a bit- bad about tricking Petree. She'd never been loved before… but Ainnik couldn't help noticing that Petree was a lot more open and softer than she was three years ago, when she nearly killed one of the guards and stole that sword right from under Harris's nose.
