She frowned. "We could leave now. . . then send a message for her. If we told her about this now, it could jeopardize our safety." Rylan explained, running a hand through her hair.

Santiago exhaled slowly, nodding. “Okay, you’re right. I can get to my computer and mess with the schedule, then come back and get you.”

She nodded. "Watch out, yeah?"

(Yeah, something intense.)

“Will do, compañera,” Santiago said, smiling. He got up and went to the door, watching for the guard for a moment before slipping out.

(Okay, cool.)

Santiago left the cell area and went up a few floors to where his apartment was. He went inside and immediately went to his computer. He sat down and logged on, typing away for about ten minutes. He adjusted the schedule and made a gap in between one of the upcoming switching times that occurred in about an hour and a half. In the mean time, he shoved a few things, including his laptop, into a black backpack. Once it was almost time for the shift change, he stuffed his wallet into his back pocket and left his apartment, turning back to face the door and lock it.

The sound of footsteps filled the hall. In no time, Alec was behind him. As Santiago turned around, Alec's piercing green eyes met his brown ones.
"And where are you going?" He asked in a cold tone.

Santiago almost ran into Alec when he turned, and he stiffened slightly upon hearing his tone. “I’m going to visit family for a day or so, my grandmother has recently fallen ill, and I haven’t visited in a while.”

Alec nodded, but his expression didn't change.
"My guards told me you visited the girl. . . again." He stepped even closer, his tone dangerous. "She's an enemy of the Republic. Don't tell me that you're interested in her."

“Interested? In her? Sir, please tell me you are joking,” Santiago said in a serious, level tone. “I was just doing what you wanted, trying to get information out of her.”

Alec narrowed his eyes as he shifted on his feet. "I trust what my guards say. They think you're getting close to her. . . are you, Santiago?"

“I wouldn’t lie, sir,” Santiago responded. He kept his voice calm and firm, though he felt overly anxious inside.

He sighed, keeping his gaze on Santiago. "Did she tell you anything else?"

“She kept insisting that she knew nothing,” Santiago explained. He decided against telling Alec about her family, as he assumed that Alec already knew about them.

"Huh," Alec said. "I have brought the matter to the Elector and the other commanders. Her execution will take place tomorrow at 12 o'clock." He stepped away from Santiago, his posture still straight. Alec kept his gaze on him for a second longer, then turned around and walked down the halls.

Santiago went tense at that. The date had been moved foreword? They had to leave now. He checked his watch and knew that there would be no guard at the door. He walked quickly down to the cell and came in quickly. “The execution was moved to tomorrow, we have to leave right now.”

She pushed herself up, and motioned to her chains that were still pinning her to her spot. "Moved? They really want me dead."

Santiago grabbed a set of keys from outside the cell and unlocked her chains quickly and put the keys back. He dug one of his hoodies from his bag and tossed it to her. “Wear that, try and keep your head down.”

Rylan slipped it on, tucking her dark hair back. She tried to hide her limp as she walked after Santiago. It had gotten even worse from when his commander had stepped down on it.

Santiago kept his own head down and slipped an arm around Rylan’s waist in a casual manner, but mostly did it to help her walk. His pace quickened as they walked through the main hall and to the front doors of the building.

She stumbled a few times, her breathing heavier as she tried to ignore the pain in her leg. They made it out into the streets of the sector, groups of people moving along the sidewalks. Santiago and Rylan blended right into the crowds.

Santiago breathed a soft sigh of relief. “Let’s see how far we can get, hen we can find somewhere to stay.” He shifted to support more of her weight, helping just short of carrying her.

"Sounds good." She mumbled, wrapping her arm around Santiago's waist. She didn't bother to hide her limp anymore, it hurt too much to try.

“Are you okay?” Santiago asked, glancing down at her.
