"Got it. Then I'm taking you hostage." he began to drive in the direction of his house.
"Got it. Then I'm taking you hostage." he began to drive in the direction of his house.
Brooke leaned back in her seat. "Well, I'm not sure what kind of reward you'll get for my release," she joked.
"A kiss, perhaps?"
"Hm. Perhaps," Brooke replied playfully.
"I'll hold you to that," he teased.
They came to his house and he parked his car. "Prepare yourself for the onslaught that is my sisters."
Brooke shot Jacob a smile before stepping out of the vehicle. "Like I said, I'm sure I'll be fine," she assured him.
He got out and locked the car. Heading up to the front steps, he unlocked the door. Immediately he was tackled by Mellie.
"Jake! Make Jade stop chasing me around the house." she whined.
Jade came over and gave him a salute, before rolling her eyes at Mellie. "He can't make me do anything, I'm older than him."
Brooke smiled from her spot behind Jake as she watched his sisters argue. She sometimes wished she had had a sibling growing up, but her life had been good without one.
Jacob peeled Mellie off of him and went inside. He raised an eyebrow at Brooke. "Don't say I didn't warn you," he stage-whispered.
Brooke stepped inside after Jake, fully expecting to be tackled by his younger sister and probably questioned by the older. That was what siblings did, right? She supposed she'd find out very soon.
Mellie shrieked in delight, while Jade sighed in exasperation and covered her ears from the screech. "Brooke! You didn't tell me Brooke was coming! Are you staying the night?"
"Well, 'hi' to you too, Mellie!" Brooke laughed. "I don't know if I'm spending the night, I've got to work tomorrow. Hey, Jade, how's it going?"
Jade glanced at her. "As good as it can go dealing with this imp."
Mellie pouted, tugging out her bottom lip and crossing her arms. "I am not. An imp! Quit exaggerating!"
Jacob sighed at the two, though smiled at Brooke nevertheless.
(How old are Jade and Mellie?)
Brooke smiled at the sisters, then turned to face Jacob. "I love how they continue to argue while I'm here," she whispered softly enough that they couldn't hear her. "It makes me feel like part of the family. Well… More than I already do."
(Mellie is 10 and Jade is 26)
"We feel comfortable around you," he said simply. It didn't seem to be much, but it was. The Litton family was rather closed off with nonrelatives.
(Okay, thanks! Quite the age difference. Lol.)
"Well, I'm glad," Brooke said, grinning at him. "Oh… We haven't told them yet…"
(Yes, very much so.)
"You wanna do it right now or wait?" he gestured to the couch.
Brooke shrugged. "I mean, sooner is generally better than later, right? But I shouldn't be the one to say anything; they're your sisters, after all."
He nodded and sat down on the couch.
"Are we playing a game?" Mellie inquired, hopping into one of the chairs.
Jacob shook his head. "Listen. Um…" He decided to rip off the band-aid. "Me and Brooke have started dating."
Jade hummed in acknowledgement. "Called it," she said satisfactorily.
Mellie did not have such a calm reaction, however. "Oh, Tim owes me five bucks! I can't believe this; you guys finally decided to stop being awkward! I call dibs on being the flower girl at your wedding," she decided seriously, all the while jumping up and down.
"Wait…what?" Brooke blinked, slowly sitting down next to Jake. "You…called it? And someone owes you money because we're dating? What?"
Jade explained, "It was obvious you two were crushing on one another. Especially when Jake came back from seeing you all starry-eyed and sighing. I was the first to call out both of you twos interest in one another."
He heated up in embarrassment as Jade said he was 'starry-eyed and sighing.'
"Tim thought you guys would never confess. I told him he was wrong. Kapow! Take that Tim!" Mellie seemed to be talking to an imaginary Tim.
(Ohmygosh, I love Mellie already. She's hilarious.)
"'Starry-eyed and sighing', eh, Jake?" Brooke muttered under her breath, casting a glance at him out of the corner of her eye. Rather than just being playful like she was earlier, this time she was using her teasing to cover up her own embarrassment. Honestly, she had probably looked the same to her mom when she had come home from seeing him.
(Glad we both agree… Definitely my fav of the trio. She's so fun to write.)
He buried his head in his hands. "Give me mercy…"
Mellie continued rambling. "Yeah, he looked so ahhhh…. she's so pretty and perfect… then the next he'd be like I don't deserve her…" She flopped down on the floor and let out a loud sigh, imitating Jacob.
He most certainly did not act like that. Jake buried his head deeper, face redder than a tomato.
Brooke blushed as she watched Mellie's theatrics. She certainly had a flair for the dramatic sometimes.
"Well," she choked out. She cleared her throat and tried again, her voice coming out clearer this time, "Well, if that's how he acted, I'm surprised I didn't realize sooner."
