(okay um what did I miss I was in class)
(Uh a demon attacked and ripped the roof off of the café)
(where is everyone now?)
(Sort of gathered in the cafe, the demon is trying to get this one person, who’s name I forget, to come with him but that person isn’t on right now so people are chatting)
(yup) "A wendigo?" Kaz felt himself become a little worried in the back of his mind. He had helped his cousin's roommate kill one a few years back, and she had said they never looked human. "I thought wendigos were…large and clawed and everything all the time," he said, trying to avoid using the word 'monster'
Cyrus shook his head slowly. “Those are the older ones. Most these days look normal, but we can shift into them. Never met another like me though,” he explained, eyes shifting around,
"Yeah. Half demons aren't born very often, and in my case there was a whole lot of crazy stuff before I was even an idea. But uh. I'm tied with the weather, particularly storms. I can control them too, sort of, but my power centers around lightning." Kaz almost immediately regretted talking about the whole demon part of his life. It sounded so ridiculous and cliche. Demon daddy issues? Really? He couldn't have been more original
“You’re a demon? That’s kind of cool, the weather stuff and all. I wouldn’t have been able to tell. Sure, you’re smell is off a little bit, but that’s pretty awesome,” Cyrus said, looking back at Kaz. It was interesting to talk to someone who had strange abilities like his. He didn’t meet many people.
"Yeah, well, it's not that cool when you accidentally grow an antler from the side of your head at 14 and you almost give your mom a heart attack when you get glow in the dark eyes," he laughed awkwardly, trying to make it seem like he didn't hate himself that much over what his existence had done to his poor mom
“Antlers huh? Glow in the dark eyes sound cool, mine just turn this weird sickly shade of red,” Cyrus said, but the color he was talking about was a darker shade of yellow. “So all that black stuff, was that something like your demon side coming out? I do that all the time, that’s how I spilled my coffee,” he said in a seemingly chatty mood, letting one of his hands grow the extremely long claws.
"Yeah, it's kinda dumb. Happens when I panic and stuff. Normally the demon part would be more melted into me sorta, but I ignored it so long that it became more of a second personality." He reached out a hand, idly poking the tips of Cyrus' claws. "When I use my powers it gets really hard for me to ignore it. I get really angry, and murderous. That kinda fun stuff."
(Sorry, back, had to eat dinner)
“I know how that feels,” Cyrus said in response, tone growing a bit more level as he watched Kaz mess with his claws. “Can you control it, when it does happen?”
(I was eating too lol) Kaz shrugged. "I can control it normally. It's kinda…Kinda like an intrusive voice that pops up in the back of my head. It tells me to kill things a lot of the time. But I can keep it away, at least if I don't change. When I change it gets a lot more difficult to control it when I change. Gives me a headache a lot of the time. But sometimes I can't control it, like a few minutes ago. Or when I use my powers for a long time."
Cyrus nodded his head in understanding. He felt the same way. He could control himself sometimes when shifted, and other times he blacked out and woke up once he was shifted back to a human appearance. It mostly varied on how great his hunger was. “Understandable, it’s no fun when you can’t control yourself.”
Kaz shook his head. "Nope. But hey, what can you do when you were born a monster?" he chuckled, walking away for a moment to grab his previously abandoned coffee
(I love how those two are having a casual conversation while everyone else id freaking out over the demon.)
(well Kaz is half demon so this is just another day on the job lol)
(lol)
(And Cyrus just usually had a “whatever” attitude about things, he knows that if it doesn’t include fire then there’s a 75% chance he will bounce back from it lmao)
“I’m with you on that one,” Cyrus said, his nails shrinking back with a crack before he picked up his own coffee, downing about half of the now cold drink.
"You want another coffee? Mine's kinda cold," Kaz said, gesturing to his half-drank chai
“I don’t think I should,” Cyrus started, setting the cup down. “I don’t want to get too hyper.” He chuckled slightly, but slowly stopped, remembering the last time he got too jumpy from things like coffee. It was the first time he had lost control when shifting, and he remembered waking up on the cold, hard floor of a cave, a man’s body layed out in front of him, mutilated, and blood soaking his body.
"Well, I guess that makes sense," Kaz chuckled
Cyrus chuckled and nodded. In the silence, his mind went back to his hunger. He was starving for something, and the close proximity that Kaz was from him really did not help at all. He would go and shift, but he had a feeling that he would black out, and who knows how long his other side could have control for.
Kaz frowned a little, the small amounts of electricity coming from Cyrus tipping him off to something being wrong. "Hey, you ok?"
“Fine, just hungry,” Cyrus responded, foot tapping quickly on the ground.
