“Babe, this wasn’t all my doing. I can’t control what happens,” Kenzie giggled as the nurse smiled and went back to checking the ultrasound.
“All right, it looks like both babies are healthy and in good shape. They seem to be grown at the correct rate. And I believe you can see the genders if you’d like,” she asked.
(I know, right?!? I love it!)
Hunter looked at Kenzie excitedly, suddenly feeling like a kid again.
"Can we, Kenz?" he looked at her with wide eyes. "Can we?"
(I'M GRINNING.)
(Me too!!!)
Kenzie laughed lightly, causing the babies to move around a bit. “Yes, of course! I want to see, too!”
The nurse grinned and moved the thing on Kenzie’ stomach so that they could see between the first baby’s legs. “Well, this one looks like a girl… See?” She gestured to a small area on the screen.
Hunter looked excited, watching his unborn babies with anticipation.
A girl.
They were going to have one girl. Eden Rose.
"And the other one?" Hunter looked at the nurse, forcing himself to sit still.
“Let’s see…” the image moved to the other baby, and Kenzie grinned when she saw it.
“It’s a boy…” she whispered excitedly. “Hunter, we’re having a girl and a boy…”
Hunter stared at the screen in shock before his lips twisted in a grin.
"No way…" he whispered, excitement lacing his words. "Kenzie… this is amazing. Wait till Leo and Willow find out about it!"
“Eden Rose and Lucas James… I bet he’ll look just like you, Hunter,” Kenzie said softly, unable to tear her eyes from the screen.
The nurse soon released them and gave them the pictures from the ultrasound, congratulating them on their twins.
Hunter couldn't stop looking at the unborn children inside his wife's stomach. He felt such intense love for them. He swore to himself he'd protect them. He'd make sure they were loved.
"You know…" Hunter started slowly. "A few years ago, I didn't think I'd become a father. Hell, I didn't think I would even get married. You really are something, aren't you, Kenzie?"
Kenzie blushed and bit her lip. “If you hadn’t asked me to date you, none of this would have happened. So, really, it’s all your doing.”
Hunter laughed.
“You made me fall in love, so I think I win the argument,” he grabbed her hand. “You wanna surprise our engaged friends now?”
“Not yet. I think I have an idea,” Kenzie said with a grin. “We need to go buy some things first, though.”
Hunter turned towards his wife.
"What is it?" he asked curiously.
“Well, I want to give them a blank ‘Thinking of you’ card, put one of the pictures in it, and write ‘You’re an aunt and uncle!’ in it,” Kenzie said with a shrug. “I mean, it was your idea, but I thought it would be cute.”
She gasped and grinned, having a sudden thought. “Speaking of cute, we need to go buy baby clothes. And have a baby shower! And get a nursery ready!”
"Easy there, tiger," Hunter laughed. "We'll get that done slowly. We have a lot of time, remember? Do you want the kids to share a room? I don't feel comfortable leaving them alone in a room. I'd rather they stay in the same room until they're old enough to sleep alone."
“Well, I think having them both in the same room for a while would be good for them and for us,” Kenzie mused. “So I think that would be good.”
Hunter nodded.
"Yeah, it would be good."
“So… Shopping, then visit Willow and Leo, and then home?” Kenzie wondered, giving Hunter a wide smile.
Hunter nodded.
"Only if they let us,"
“What, you don’t rhink our friends want to see us?” Kenzie asked, giving him a look.
Hunter laughed.
“That’s not what I meant,” he chuckled. “I meant, they won’t let us leave once they find out the big secret.”
“Oh,” Kenzie laughed lightly. “Well, they’ll have to if I get too tired. Either that, or I’ll just fall asleep on their couch. Or you.”
“I wouldn’t mind you falling asleep on me,” Hunter shrugged. “Honestly, ever since they moved in together, haven’t we seen them less and less?”
“Huh. Yeah, I guess so. I wonder what they do all day…” Kenzie mused. She coughed a bit and chuckled. “Actually, never mind. I’m not sure if I want to.”
