Hunter didn’t know what he was doing. Just a second ago, he was painting, and now there was spilled paint on the desk. He sighed. He blamed it on his lack of sleep.
Because Archer’s son was busy with the masquerade planning, Hunter had decided to take up on his work along with his own. Stupid decision, but what could he do as a CEO? Before he lost it, Hunter finally stood up. He was just going to annoy his wife. Now that was fun.
However, when he walked into the kitchen, he saw a sight he didn’t think he would ever see. His wife, beautiful Kenzie, was reaching inside a cabinet, her hands ignoring the jar of peanut butter. Peanut butter and Kenzie were literally soulmates.
“Kenzie… what?”
Kenzie spun around, hearing her husband’s voice. She smiled and pushed herself up so that she was sitting on the counter. “What? I’m hungry? Is there something wrong with me looking for something to eat?”
Hunter quirked an eyebrow, walking over to his wife.
“The peanut butter’s right there,” he said, resting his hands on either side of her. “I don’t know if you missed but…”
Kenzie smiled down at Hunter, the position reminding her of something that had happened years ago… They’d been dating for a short while, and she’d been looking for spaghetti noodles. She’d been too short to reach the shelf they were on, so she’d had to climb on the counter to reach them. It had worried Hunter, which had led to them being in much the same position as they currently were.
She shrugged and leaned down to kiss his nose. “Peanut butter… isn’t exactly something that I want right now. I do kind of want French toast, though,” she mused. “I know it’s weird, but I just can’t do penut butter right now…”
Hunter immediately reached up to touch her forehead worriedly.
“Are you okay? Are you sick?” He furrowed his eyebrows, wrapping her legs around his torso. “You never refuse peanut butter! There was only one time and…”
Kenzie wrapped her arms around his neck and leaned over to rest their foreheads together.
“It just makes… my… stomach upset…” she said, slowing down as she realized that Hunter was right. She had only refused peanut butter one period in her life… When she was expecting the twins…
She blinked a couple of times before gasping and pushing Hunter away so she could get off the counter. Once she was down, she paced the room, rubbing at her face. “Oh my gosh… Oh my gosh, Hunter… We need to go to the pharmacy quick. Like, now.”
Hunter’s eyes widened. No way. No way! This was actually happening—their intense workout…
“Well, what are you waiting for?” He breathed excitedly. “Let’s go!”
He pulled her off of the counter, holding on to her tightly.
(She's already off the counter. Lol. She was pacing the kitchen.)
Kenzie shook her head and grinned up at Hunter, wrapping her arms around him in a right hug. "If this is really what I think it is, then we're going to need to take out the baby things again… And I might need to look for all of my maternity clothes," she mused, reaching up to kiss him gently before pulling away. She squeezed his hands with an excited grin, then hurried into their room to get dressed.
(Oh lol I missed that part)
Hunter watched his wife go into their room and he laughed, unable to believe it. Everything holy, his wife was going to be pregnant again! Hopefully. Their twins would have a baby sibling!
Hunter followed Kenzie to the room, his tiredness melting away.
Kenzie searched for something to wear in an excited and/or nervous flurry. She couldn't tell which she was more…
On the one hand, she couldn't believe that she could be having another baby in the near future. She'd loved having the twins as babies, and the thought of having another was just so… Well, so exciting…
But on the other… She was older, now, almost forty. That was pretty old to be having another child. What if something went wrong? What if this baby actually had something wrong with it, like they'd thought the twins would?
“If you really are pregnant,” Hunter started, leaning against the doorway. Being married for eighteen years… Hunter could tell if something bothered Kenzie. He knew her inside and out. “Nothing will go wrong. The baby will be perfectly healthy, just like our twins.”
"The twins have bad vision problems, Hunter," Kenzie murmured, chewing on her lip as she pulled a simple, maroon tshirt from the drawers along with a pair of jeans.
Hunter winced. That was true, they did. Especially Eden, whose eyesight continuously got worse.
“That doesn’t mean anything will go wrong with that one,” he insisted. “We just have to be positive.”
Kenzie nodded slowly as she changed into her new set of clothes. He was right. Of course he was. Hunter was always right in times like these. He was her calm voice of reason in the storm, easily able to talk her away from the ledge.
"Okay," she started softly after she'd finished changing. "I'm ready. Let's go get some pregnancy tests…"
Hunter pulled her into a hug and pressed a kiss to her head.
“Whatever happens, whatever result we’ll get, just know that it’s not your fault and I won’t blame you,” he murmured. “Let’s go now.”
After the couple got back from the pharmacy, Kenzie immediately disappeared into the bathroom. She tried nearly every test in the whole box, which might have just been her making up for not getting to do it with the twins.
"Hunter," she called though the door, her voice shaking as she stared down at the pile of tests in the sink. Each one said the same the thing: she was definitely pregnant.
Hunter immediately wrapped his wife in a hug, pulling her close, excitement punching him in the gut.
“Oh my God, we’re going to have another child,” he whispered, kissing her on the head. “Another child to keep us awake at night. You’re perfect, Kenzie.”
