Kenzie took a deep breath before standing on wobbly legs. She grabbed some clothes from the bedroom, then walked back into the bathroom and started running a bath. That seemed like a safer idea at the moment. Plus, she could put bubble bath in it!
What is going on with me? Why do I feel this way? She wondered as she undressed and slipped into the warm, comforting water with a sigh.
When Hunter walked back inside, he didn’t see Kenzie. Raising an eyebrow, he made his way into the bathroom to see his wife bathing happily. In a bubble bath.
“Kenzie…” Hunter started slowly. “Honey, don’t you think it’s a little… too much to be doing that at five in the morning?”
Kenzie frowned down at the water, then at Hunter. “Um… No? What’s wrong with a bubble bath? You told me to clean up, didn’t you?”
It’s only five in the morning???
Hunter shook his head with a laugh.
“I meant washing your face and brushing your teeth, silly,” he slowly walked over to her and bent down next to the tub. “Here, water. I didn’t put any medicine in it, so you don’t have to worry.”
“Oh,” Kenzie sighed as she took the water. She gave him a small smile before taking a sip. “Thanks… I’m feeling a lot better, now.”
“Good,” Hunter nodded. “Now hurry up. I’m taking you to the hospital. It’s open, so you can’t complain.”
“But… I’m enjoying my bubble bath…” Kenzie pouted. She sighed and shook her head. “Okay, I’ll be out in a few minutes.”
Hunter smiled softly, patting her on the head before getting up himself.
“I’m going to brush my teeth,” he said with a lopsided grin. “Hope you don’t mind.”
“You just want to be here when I get out, don’t you?” Kenzie asked, raising an eyebrow at him as she blushed.
Hunter rolled his eyes.
“I’ve seen you plenty of times, my dear wife,” he smirked at her. “I’m sure I don’t need the excuse of brushing my teeth to look at you like this.”
“Mmhm…” Kenzie hummed, still blushing as she closed her eyes and let herself sink into the water until it was just below her nose.
After brushing his teeth and washing his face, Hunter walked out of the bathroom to give his wife some privacy. He walked over to the closet to grab some clothes before he changed quickly.
Kenzie reopened her eyes after Hunter left and looked around the bathroom. She sighed and got out of the tub, wrapping a towel around herself before she dried off and changed.
When she was finished, she walked into the bedroom and waited for Hunter. “I’m done, babe. Ready to go?”
Hunter nodded before passing Kenzie’s handbag to her, clasping her hand in his and guiding her out.
“It’s been a while since we saw Leo and Willow, right?” Hunter realized. Both their friends had been busy in their lives, and since Hunter and Kenzie had gotten married, they had lesser time to spend with each other. It bummed Hunter out, but he wasn’t about to tell Leo that he was missing the idiot.
“Hm… Yeah. It’s been about a week and a half to two weeks, I think,” Kenzie remembered as she followed Hunter to the car. “Why do you ask?”
Hunter shrugged.
“Just asking,” he said, sitting inside the car and waiting for Kenzie to do the same. When they were both in the car, he started driving.
“How are you feeling now?” Hunter asked softly after a while.
"Better. Kinda hungry, actually," Kenzie said with a shrug. "But I can wait until after we go to the doctor… I want french toast, though…"
After a few more minutes, Hunter parked the car and killed the engine, stepping out and walking over to Kenzie’s side.
Kenzie stepped out of the car and gave Hunter a quick smile as she took his hand.
“Let’s do this…” she breathed as they started toward the hospital doors. Whatever was wrong with her, she knew they’d get through it together.
“McKenzie McArthur?” A nurse called Kenzie’s name, and the couple stood up. Hunter squeezed Kenzie’s hand as a sign of support, rubbing slow circles on her hand.
“Can you tell me your symptoms again?” The nurse asked as she took us inside a room. She grabbed a pen and was ready to scribble on the document.
“Um, I get sick in the mornings and around certain foods. I get some really strange cravings sometimes,” Kenzie explained, chewing on her lip. She really didn’t like going to the doctor…
Hunter opened his mouth to continue, wrapping an arm around his nervous wife.
“Lately she’s been taking about a stomachache, too,” he added. The nurse nodded, scribbling down before grabbing a container and handing it to Kenzie.
“We’ll need a sample of your urine,” she said to her. “We’ll also perform a blood test, just in case we don’t get anything from your urine sample. You can set the sample on the counter.”
Kenzie nodded slowly as she took the container for the nurse, leaning into Hunter’s side. “All right… Where’s the nearest restroom?”
“Follow me,” the nurse said before turning to Hunter. “If you’d please wait here…”
Kenzie stood, turning to look at Hunter as she chewed on her lip, then followed the nurse to the restroom. As soon as she was there, she did as she was instructed as quickly as she could. When she was finished, she went back to the room where Hunter was waiting and set the cup down on the counter before washing her hands.
