More! Cats!
My mouth hangs open as I jump out of the car in excitement. "You just want to hang out with the cats, don't you?" I smirk as we walk inside the place. "Here, you can find me a good cat and I'll order food. Do you want anything?" I inspect the cafe, getting increasingly giddy as I hear meows in the distance.
Jean rolls his eyes as you both enter the shop, the owner looking up and smiling.
"Welcome back, Daniel! Ooh, who's this sweetheart?" She says, noticing you immediately and giving Jean mischievous eyebrows. Jean shoots her a forced chuckle and shakes his head.
"Just my partner in crime, she's actually a little hungry," He turns to you. "You can take the food into the lounge but be careful with it, the cats act like they've never been fed."
He nods at the lady behind the counter and kicks off his shoes, waiting for you at the bench.
Daniel? Must be an alias, like Anubis. I don't know how I know that, but I do. Did he ever tell me?
After getting food, I sit down next to Jean and take off my shoes. I nod to him and we head to the cat room.
As soon as the door opens, the cats fucking kill me because i have food. Meow! they say as they rip apart my flesh and bones, confusing their senses and believing I am food. Jean merely watches. It's hel-
As soon as the door opens, a grin covers my face as I slowly approach a random cat, keeping my food away as I try to pet it. Its collar reads 'Charles.' He tries to paw at my food, but I don't let him. "How often do you come here?" I say to Jean as I feel the soft fur of the cat.
Jean hesitates before answering the question, either ashamed or unsure how to word his response.
"I know all the cats by name." He uttered, turning to pet another cat, who confidently strolled up to Jean, standing up on it's hind legs as it rested it's front legs on Jean's knee.
"I try not to pick favorites because I know they'll get adopted, but Charles is quite the veteran." He says calmly, watching you and Charles befriend each other.
i lov u jean, but do u ever meet cats on a different celestial plane before entering this world to flex on a murderer u just met
I smile, the idea of a killer loving cats so much. We play with the cats in silence for a few moments, but this causes my mind to wander adn think about what Kai and Yuki and Celia are doing. Suddenly, I have an idea. I glance at Jean, a suspicious grin on my face.
"How would Prince feel about having another friend?"
Jean's eyes widen as he leans back against the wall, raising an apprehensive hand.
"Hey, you're staying at my house until you find a place for your own, you're not moving in. Plus, Prince is antisocial, he doesn't want a friend."
Jean looks away as he pets another cat.
"As much as I love cats, Prince is different from these guys. I didn't exactly adopt him." He mutters, a cat curling into his lap and falling asleep within minutes.
I look away, sort of embarrassed. "Right, sorry," I take the last bite of my food and return to Charles. I scratch him under the chin and he purrs in response. "Um," I try again. "Where do you find Prince?"
Until you find a place for your own.
I realize I have to restart my life eventually. How? I don't even know what college I went to. Or if I went. Or what degree I have. Charlies licks my hand. Oh, you're lucky Charles. You don't have to worry about memory.
Jean closes his eyes, a hint of a smirk creeping up the corners of his mouth as he mentally recounts the story. "He was only a kitten, I found him on the side of the road. Don't know where his family had gone, maybe he decided to wander and got lost, but," He paused, placing his hands behind his head and resting against his palms, "I wasn't about to leave him alone, so I took him with me."
He inhaled deeply, opening his eyes to look at you suspiciously.
"I've held it back long enough, but I think it's time I ask about you. Who were those guys you were talking to before you entered the building last night?"
I open my mouth to reply to Prince's story, but Jean decides to change the topic.
"I've held it back long enough, but I think it's time I ask about you. Who were those guys you were talking to before you entered the building last night?" he says, eyeing me.
I shrug, "One claims to be my friend, which I'm not sure how that's true, and the other, well I have no clue. They're awfully secretive." I furrow my brow, while also realizing I am no longer petting a cat. Charles must have ran off somewhere. I pull my knees up to my chest. "Kai says he's coming back, but I don't know how he expects to find me."
"Right, you lost your memory." He muttered, scooting closer to you awkwardly so you could pet one of the cats surrounding him.
"Do you know what you remember?" He suggests, not exactly sure how to handle such a situation as memory loss, but attempting to make conversation anyway. He silently checked the time on his phone before putting it back in his pocket and turning back to look at you.
A dark silvery cat sneaks up on me, smelling my fingers before it allows me to pet it's head. "Do you know what you remember?" Jean asks, checking the time.
"It's kind of weird. I can't remember my life, but I remember basic life facts and facts about my personality and what I like and stuff. I don't really remember anything modern? If that makes sense? Like, I didn't know what ELife was. But I know that, um, grass is green," I mutter the last part despite the fact that I know it's true. "Also, what time is it? Should we go shopping now or"
Jean nods, listening to you.
"Would you like to hear more about ELife? Other than the fact that one of it's valued employees was assassinated last night?"
As you ask the last question, he nods, picking up the cat from his lap and standing up. He places the cat gently on the chair next to him and offers you a hand in standing up as well.
"I'll tell you about ELife in the car."
The two of you exit the lounge, quietly put your shoes back on, and leave the building, returning to the car.
I laugh at his joke and we make our way back to the car. I think about the idea of cyborgs and wonder if perhaps I was born in the wrong generation.
"So, ELife?" I prompt, pulling my seat belt on. Jean sticks the keys into the ignition and we pull out of the cafe lot. I spot a sign that says Ohio which leads me to think of whether if I live in Ohio or another state. Did I have a job here? I'd probably be fired by now.
Jean starts the ignition and drives out of the parking lot, clearing his throat as he nods.
"ELife started as a simple electric appliances company, creating things that we didn't need in the first place, but they started to get big after they teased that there was something super big in the works."
Jean took a few turns, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel when he stopped at an intersection.
"That was several years ago, and last year they finally came out with cyborgs. Right now, the cyborgs are only replacing police, but I'm willing to bet they'll start to take all the jobs." He sighed heavily, shaking his head in disappointment as he rolls his eyes.
"People think that's good, but humans need work. Taking the easy way out is only going to create more problems. Easy Life, Efficient Life, Economical Life, that's their slogan, but it's bullshit."
"That would definitely cause the economy to crash. People, companies, they'd lose a lot of money," I comment. "But, are there actually people who are signing up to be slave robots? Or are they lying to the customers?"
Finally Jean turns into a fair sized mall. I stare at it. wow! what else do i say
im pretending this is longer
than
it actually
is
thank you
Jean shrugs, parking the car and turning it off, looking at you.
"Well, they don't advertise them to be cyborgs. They advertise them as androids, or fully robot. I know they're not because I've been in that building, so I've taken a look at a few of their files. Those poor kids, the first hundred or so thought they were signing up for a harmless social experiment. They had families."
He shoots you an obviously fake smile as he opens the car door, taking in a breath of the fresh air.
"Let's try not to bring that up while we're in the mall, sound good? Some of the mall security are androids." He muttered to you, putting a specific emphasis on the word 'androids'.
I frown, feeling bad for the poor people who had to be turned into a robot. I couldn't imagine the pain.
"Let's try not to bring that up while we're in the mall, sound good? Some of the mall security are androids."
I nod, kind of scared of androids, cyborgs, whatever. "Sure thing, captain."
We walk into the mall, but I'm not sure where to go. I don't remember any stores or brands. I look to Jean desperately. "I don't remember anything about fashion." lets shoplift im kidding
Jean furrows his brow at you, but doesn't acknowledge the captain.
He looks you up and down before shrugging and shaking his head.
"I don't know either, let's just go to the nearest clothes shop and you can pick what you want."
He looks forward along with you, both of your eyes falling onto Victoria's Secret. He exchanges glances with you before turning away to walk to a JCPenny.
"Let's start here."
"I don't know either, let's just go to the nearest clothes shop and you can pick what you want."
The first store we see is Victoria's Secret, which features a brightly pink store and a fuck ton of lingerie and bras and other girly bullshit. I snicker when Jean turns to the next store.
We walk inside the store and find the woman's section, except I hate all of the clothes. I decide on a random shirt, just to make Jean feel better. No time to be indecisive. It's a light pink shirt with small writing on the left breast that reads, 'love.' I shrug at him, "Should I try it on?"
Jean shrugs as he turns to lead you to the fitting rooms. Once you two arrive he pauses at the entrance and mutters to you,
"I'll find something for myself while I'm waiting." While you work on trying on the shirt, Jean walks away, grabbing whatever caught his eye, immediately returns, and enters another fitting room. By the time you walk out, he's already in, but it doesn't take him long to get into it as well. When he stepped out, he was wearing a white button up with faded brown stripes going across the shirt, the shirt itself unbuttoned, revealing a white tee, along with dark teal high-waisted jeans.
"Hey, that shirt looks good on you." He mutters, smirking.
"Thanks!" I blush, posing in the shirt that's not really that special, but the compliment makes me feel better about it. "You don't look so bad yourself," I smile, looking him up and down. I gasp.
"I have an idea to pass the time! You pick me an outfit and I pick you one and we both have to try it on, no matter how ridiculous," I suggest with a mischievous plastered on my face. hehe
Jean sort of hesitates, but it was evident he was already going to agree to it; he only knew he was going to regret such a thing. He shrugs and nods his head.
"Okay, fine, but you have to pick from the men's section, alright?" He mutters, raising a suspicious eyebrow at you.
