Because I don't. But I didn't know if you wanted to kiss me since you were…
Kasey frowned a bit when Liam pulled back.
Because I don't. But I didn't know if you wanted to kiss me since you were…
Kasey frowned a bit when Liam pulled back.
Liam smiled onto her lips when he noticed the frown.
If I knew you got sick I wouldn't have kissed you, but you don't so… He connected their lips again.
Kasey let a small smile flick across her lips when Liam kissed her again.
I see… Or rather, feel…
Yup…
Liam placed his hand on her cheek gently before tracing her jaw lightly.
Kasey felt her skin heat up where Liam traced it. She draped an arm across his shoulder, using the other to hold herself up.
Liam let his hand drift to her shoulder then back up to rest on her cheek again lightly. It almost looked as if he was shaking a little.
Kasey pulled back, feeling him shaking. She gave him a worried look.
"Are you okay?" she asked softly.
Liam clenched his fist and nodded, resting his head on her shoulder for a moment.
Yeah, I'm fine… just forgot to take my medication for it this morning…
"…For what?" Kasey whispered, her eyebrows coming together in confusion.
Nerve damage… I was in an accident a few years back. The medication helps a little… Liam sighed.
"Oh. I'm sorry… Can I ask what happened?" Kasey wondered, looking at him sympatheticly.
Liam lifted his head from her shoulder and looked away, resting his arm on his knee and biting the skin on his wrist.
I was on my way to… to my parents funeral in the country with my younger brother. It was raining heavily and the car got a flat tire, causing it to spin out off a cliff… my brother didn't make it…
"Oh, Liam… I'm so sorry…" Kasey whispered, squeezing her eyes shut tightly. Darn vivid imagination…
Liam sighed and with his free hand grabbed Kasey's.
It's fine… it's fine. Even as he thought it he didn't sound convinced as the memories of that night came back.
The tap, tap, tap of the rain on the roof of the car, the silence between him and his brother as he drove round the road. The crash of thunder that made them both jump and the car swerve, hitting that darned rock. The scream of his brother as the car spun out then dove off the cliff. Liam placing his hand on his brother as the car hurtled through the trees and eventually land at the bottom, his brother lying motionless before Liam passed out and woke up in hospital.
Kasey was still reading his thoughts when he had the memory. She flinched at it and felt tears prick at her eyes.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered again.
You don't have to apologise. It wasn't your fault… it was mine…
Even as he thought it, the words became quieter to the last three words that ate at him all the time. His fault. It was his fault his brother was dead.
Kasey's eyes snapped open.
"How could it have been your fault?" she questioned him.
If I'd been more of a careful driver I could have avoided the rock… He admitted.
"From what I saw, that wasn't your fault. You jumped at the clap of thunder, not something you can control," Kasey said softly.
I still could have tried and I didn't… He replied, The last connection I had with my family is gone. I promised I'd protect him, to care for him a-and he's gone… they all are…
"I know how that feels," Kasey murmured with a quick glance to the door. "My parents are gone, and Harper wasn't around for the longest time after I turned eighteen."
Liam nodded.
Harper is a good brother to you, even if he wasn't there for a while he is now… I wish I could've been there for Colby…
"Yeah, he is…" Kasey trailed off with a sigh. "How old was he, if I may ask."
Seven… he was seven… Liam replied.
Kasey bit her lip and nodded. If there's anything I can do to help you, let me know…
