She swallowed, glaring evenly at Adrielle. "Hill-Romanoff."
She swallowed, glaring evenly at Adrielle. "Hill-Romanoff."
"Alright, Hill-Romanoff, I want you over on that side of the room, if you can pause your glaring for a few seconds." It wasn't a question or offer, more along the lines of an order. "I want to talk."
Nat broke away from glaring at Adrielle to give Kiania a suspicious and confused look. Slowly, she complied.
Kiania waited until she was sure there'd be no more incident, before following to stand in front of Nat, arms crossed over her chest. "Care to explain, just a bit?"
"No," she answered, not meeting the other girl's gaze.
"Then tell me what the fuck you were thinking, getting into a fight after just managing to get out of another one." Gods, I sound like Elmahdy.
"She insulted my mother," Nat shot back quietly, yet still very harsh. "I'll kill her for that."
"No, you won't." Kiania said simply. "Because we both know that's exactly what she wants you to try. "I'm not a fan of the high road most of the time, but I'm making an exception."
Nat narrowed her eyes. "I'm going to kill her."
"If you try anything, I'll throw your ass in that cabinet." Kiania warned, meeting Nat's gaze unwaveringly.
"Then what do you suggest?" she replied sharply.
"Not letting it get to you, no matter how bad you want to." She answered easily. "And if you have too, egg her place of residence."
"That sounds quite amazing!" Artemis replied to Jett with a grin. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go address a conflict of sorts," she said with an apologetic smile. She strolled over to Nat and Kiania. "I'm not allowing a smidge more violence in my home today, so I would not recommend killing the newcomer," she said in a strangely happy tone. "Now, my step-father says that you all have to leave, but I think otherwise. So, would you like a tour?" Her face glowed with excitement. She clearly had not been around this many people in years, and it energized her.
Nat arched her eyebrows. "I'm not ten."
Kiania elbowed Nat gently, her serious demeanor replaced by her usual grin. "A tour sounds hella cool. Long as it doesn't get you in too much trouble."
"I'll join you guys in a minute," Nat agreed, heading towards an unoccupied side room.
Adrielle snorted. Weak. They all were. Easy to manipulate and anger. Predictable. Simple. There was a reason why she she had left. She glared and Nat, and if looks could kill, she would be ten feet under.
Jett grinned. “I know, right?” He jumped up and down excitedly, glad to see someone who shared his interest. Then, she walked away, and he slumped.
Nat ignored the glares that burnt her. She held up her confident, vengeful façade until the door of the room was shut and locked. She turned away from the door, cupped her now trembling hand over her mouth and cried quietly.
Adrielle heard a muffled sob and smirked. Pathetic, really.
"Is tearing people to shreds really the best use of your free time you could find?" Kiania asked, setting aside the urge to go comfort Nat as she raised an eyebrow at Adrielle, looking once again as casual as ever. Some people needed to work their issues out on their own, and she would probably just get in the way of that.
Nat bit her hand. Stupid! They can hear you! She trembled and leaned against the wall. Her panics had been less frequent, but the painful memories were brought up again. The look on Clint's face… She squeezed her eyes shut.
Dr. Strange was starting to really get pissed off. Kids wandering into the Sanctum was not a very frequent occurrence, but the few who were there already had been mostly polite, except for the blonde asshat looking for a fight. He took a long, deep breath, realizing that none of them were going to leave anytime soon. Dr. Strange cast a spell to seal all of the doors in the Sanctum to everyone but him, not knowing that Nat was in another room, and went upstairs to take a nap. Artemis was standing in the corner, looking saddened and agitated. She didn’t really understand why her new friend was crying, but she did know that she didn’t like jerks. “I do believe it is time for you to exit the premises, Miss,” she said to Adrielle in a soft, strained voice. “The entrance is right behind you. Go.”
Nat covered her lips tighter. This wasn't supposed to happen at all. She was supposed to be a hard, trained, badass assassin that didn't cry. But here she was…
Adrielle ignored Artemis and stared at Kiania. She had a sadistic smirk on her face, but her eyes were blank, emotionless. "What else am I supposed to do?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "When I was treated the same way by everyone else?" She cursed herself as her voice shook a bit at the end. Don't show weakness, she chided herself.
"Keep people from feeling the same way, obviously." Kiania said, arms crossed over her chest. Adrielle's expression obviously didn't phase her, nothing really did all that much. "You ain't the only one with issues, but your own should give you a reason to help others, not be a dick about it."
