"Yes Vida, he'll be fine. Do you mind opening the door?" He wasn't going to barge in, that would make things worse.
Vida cautiously stepped forwards and cracked open the door.
“Are you mad?” she whispered.
"What? I'm not mad." He bent down to her level and smiled. "You didn't do anything to me, but I am a little sad my friend is hurt. Cyrus is strong though, he'll get better quickly." Lying to kids and hiding his feeling was just wrong and untrustworthy, how could he expect them to tell the truth if he didn't.
“M-me too…”
Vida frowned. She started playing with her hair nervously.
"Listen Vida, I'm sure your heart was in the right place and that's why I'm not angry with you or Katya, but don't you think you could've just talked to him?" Uriah made sure his voice was still soft and calm. "I'm sure Cyrus would've listened, he's a very caring guy who likes to take everyone's opinions. But do remember he is an adult who is very strong and can take care of himself, okay?"
“Being an adult and being able to take care of yourself doesn’t protect you from people who want to kill you,” Vida replied, opening the door a little wider, “This mission you guys were thinking about? It’s insane!”
"Cyrus is skilled, he has trained his whole life for this, and being an adult does mean he can take care of himself. Is it dangerous yes, but having trust is another thing you need. Do you think hurting him and keeping him here will help him? Because it doesn't. What if the guild decided to attack right now, do you think he would be able to fight with the injuries he has right now, I'm sorry, your heart was in the right place, but you made him more vulnerable than ever right now." Uriah stood and smiled. "All I'm saying is that hurting people is not how you solve things and it makes it easier for people to attack you. Just, think about it okay?" He really hoped the she would think about her actions and how it hurt Cyrus more than it helped. It was one more person they would have to take care of and one more person that wouldn't be able to help if they did go under attack.
“You’re right. Sort of. But I still don’t think any amount of training or care can save someone who goes on such a dangerous mission! I… I remember exactly one thing about my past… and I think it’s a lesson…” Vida explained, fading back into a whisper towards the end.
"You will always have someone stronger than you. So yes, maybe Cyrus won't be the one to stop Panther, but there is someone out there who can. But I know Cyrus and no matter what anyone says he'll want to help, so sorry, but even hurting him won't stop him." Vida made good points, but Uriah thought she was still just looking at it from a young childs view. "Just let Cyrus be Cyrus and let him help with out interfering next time." That was all he could say, if she still didn't get it then Cyrus would have to come talk to her. "I have to go now." He gave them one last smile before walking away. Uriah really wished that helped and could show Vida no matter what happens Cyrus is an adult and can make his own decisions and if something bad happens he can learn from it and do better the next time. "Hey Cy, I'm back."
Vida sank down into her bed.
"I'm a fool!" she cried out dramatically, "Of course he won't listen to a child!"
Cyrus nodded in acknowledgement.
"Learn anything?" he asked.
He had barely moved since Uriah had left; all of the ice packs were still where he'd left them and they were starting to melt. The swelling wasn't any worse, but it didn't seem to be any better, either.
Nathan walked over to Vida "what do you remember? I cant remember anything." He said
Vida frowned. “I had an older brother. He was forced to be part of Black Claw too. He tried to stop them from using me, got a bit too rebellious, and they killed him in front of me…” she said, “It was awful…”
"Hm, well, they all definitely still think like children." Uriah sat back down. "She doesn't think you are strong enough to take care of yourself, so she did this in order to stop you from going on the mission and I told her that doing that only made you a weak target if were under attack. We had a nice talk and I hope they all learn from it."
There was a knock on the door and Esmae walked into where all the kids were. "So, that was a nice talk from mister know it all." She didn't like Uriah's way of talking, it was almost like he knew exactly what to say to make everything better, but it doesn't. "What do you think about what he said?"
Vida frowned. “I had an older brother. He was forced to be part of Black Claw too. He tried to stop them from using me, got a bit too rebellious, and they killed him in front of me…” she said, “It was awful…”
Nathan stayed quiet. It was nice that voda remembered something but it was horrible that she remembered something that terrible.
Katya scowled at Esmea. She was acting all high and mighty, like she was doing any better than them. They weren't even in that much trouble.
Luna was outside of the medical wing leaning against the wall listening in on Cyrus. A broken arm and a broken knee, that wasn't very good for Cyrus or the mission coming up.
"I don't think he understands exactly what happened," Vida said, "but he's not wrong. We hurt someone… I didn't consider other possible consequences."
Cyrus shook his head, only to get a twinge of pain in his neck and temple. He gritted his teeth a little.
"I think there's a little more to it than that. Stuff they didn't tell you. For one thing, why's Vida so dead-set on stopping me, of all people? Maybe I should talk to her."
"Yeah I think you should." Uriah stood and went to stand by Luna. "Hey, you okay?"
Esmae saw the glare, but ignored it. "Hm, yes, I find him quite annoying." It was a lie, they went through so much so how can he still treat them like they know nothing. "Anyway, what are we going to do about them still wanting to go to Black Claw?"
"Y-yeah," Luna said quietly, "J-just frustrated with myself. I-I should've trusted Esmae, but I-I didn't. A-and now Cyrus is badly injured."
"I don't know…" Vida muttered, "All I can think of is to tell them what kind of danger there is, but then again, they already know about that."
The medic then came back around on Cyrus' left side, the side where his knee and hand were injured.
"You mind if we test your mobility?"
Cyrus sighed, "Yeah, okay."
The medic tried to help him bend his knee, but it was really stiff and swollen, and didn't want to move past a certain point. Cyrus bit down on his lip really hard, groaning in pain.
"Nope… I think that's enough…" he murmured.
"Do you feel any grinding, or did you when you first hurt it?"
"No… It might not even be broken, you know? Bone bruising's a thing, too. It's just worse because it's at a joint."
"Exactly. Might need some more testing and time to figure it out for sure, but if that's the case, you'll heal much faster. It might hurt, but you'd be able to walk soon enough."
Cyrus perked up a little bit. Although this had occurred to him, it was good to hear a second opinion that he might not be as hurt as previously thought.
Sparrow looked at Cyrus and frowned "ok, we need to hold a meeting." She said
"None of us really listened, and it's not like she did anything to earn your trust, so don't feel guilty." Even Uriah had his doubts, so he was just as guilty. He moved a bit closer and held her hand. "Sorry, but just for a minute." He hoped it would help her help calm her a bit.
"It is true that they already know. They have been through it as well." Esmae knew they went through it as well, everyone but Uriah. He could come in handy. "I know y'all don't like me, but I think we need to work together. Everyone here is underestimating us, we have the knowledge, all the plans and things Panther is planning and doing, we need to use that to our advantage."
"Yeah, let me get everything sorted out here, and as soon as I can actually get out of bed, we should. What do you want to discuss at said meeting?" Cyrus asked.
The ringing in his ears flared up some, and he let out an agitated sigh, running a hand through his hair.
"The kids. Panther has gone too far this time." She growled
"I've been saying that…" Cyrus muttered, "Why are you getting so fired up now?"
