The queen hums. “Feel free to stay as long as you like, dear…as long as my son is happy…”
The queen hums. “Feel free to stay as long as you like, dear…as long as my son is happy…”
“Thank you again, your Majesty, but I think I should leave while he’s resting.” she says, carefully standing up. “I don't want to disturb him.”
She nods. “Of course…feel free to come visit any time you’d like.”
Meg smiles and curtsies gratefully before leaving.
The queen sighs, mumbling to herself. “Hopefully he survives long enough…” she goes and finds her husband.
Meg was certainly concerned for Aaron but she knew she couldn't help him just by being in the room while he was sleeping. And she didn't know enough about medicine to do anything that the doctors haven't already done for him.
As the days went on, Aaron seemed to be getting sicker and sicker. His health had gotten to a point where he couldn’t even get out of bed without help.
Meg would occasionally visit him when he was awake. Sometimes she would bring her sketchbook or a couple of books to read together. But she was still worried about him and tried not to let it show too much when they were together.
Aaron would always light up every time he saw her. One specific day she came to visit, he seemed slightly out of it. He was extremely pale and thin and his eyes and cheeks were sunken. He smiles weakly as she walks in. “Hi…”
“Hi.” she smiles warmly back as she joins him by the bed.
He hums, “How are you…and your mother…?”
“We're fine.” she assures. “My mother says hello and she gave me these to give you.” she smiles, holding up a couple of warm rolls.
He smiles. “Oh…thank you…I’m…afraid I haven’t…been able to hold down my food…” he coughs.
“That's alright.” she assures. “You can still keep one. Maybe for later.” she suggests, placing one on the nightstand.
He hums softly, smiling. “Thank you…”
“Of course.” she smiles sweetly. “How are you feeling?”
He laughs softly, “horrible…”
“I’m sorry.” she chuckled softly.
He smiles. “Its alright…ill survive.”
“Good.” she chuckles, sincerely hoping that her friend was right.
He chuckles, then pauses and gives her a book. “I…loved reading this…and I thought you would want to read it too…”
“Thank you. I’ll bring it back in good condition when I finish it.” she promises.
He smiles softly, then starts coughing into his handkerchief.
Meg bites her tongue to keep a neutral expression, though she did look away and focuses on the book in her hands.
Aaron quickly hides the handkerchief, looking concerned.
