Jay nodded. "Mhm." He replied. If we're alive to do so. If I haven't killed you before then. If… Leo leaned against Jay, looking up at him in a begging way. Jay sighed, and started petting him again.
Jay nodded. "Mhm." He replied. If we're alive to do so. If I haven't killed you before then. If… Leo leaned against Jay, looking up at him in a begging way. Jay sighed, and started petting him again.
She could tell he was probably thinking the same thing as she was and she sighed, hating that they both had to live with knowing one day she would be dead and neither of them knew when. “I think it’s dark enough to sleep now, plus the more rest we get the better,” She finally said, pushing herself further onto the bed and laying down. It was still fairly light out but he sun was definitely setting.
Jay nodded. "Alright." He lay down on the bed, picking up Leo and setting him down in the middle. Leo circled around and lay down, nose tucked between his paws. Jay pulled the blankets over top of them.
She propped her head up on one of her arms and rolled onto her side facing Leo, reaching out her other hand and brushing through the dogs fur. Her nightmare popped back into her mind and she knew again there was no way she was sleeping, but she could at least act like she was so Jay could sleep.
Leo shifted, snuggling closer to her happily. Jay closed his eyes, his back to Delia and Leo. Oh god. I don't know if I can sleep tonight.
Leo’s presence was calming and she relaxed, only her hearing staying sharp. Her gun was propped up on the edge of the bed next to her and she was just hoping she wouldn’t need it.
Leo closed his eyes, snuggling up to her and wagging his tail. Jay kept his eyes closed.
Delia closed her eyes as well, though she was nowhere near tired. “Jay?” She asked very softly, “Are you up?”
He rolled over. "Yes." He replied softly, raising an eyebrow and looking at her.
“Can I ask you a question?” She asked even softer this time, picking at the mattress she was laying on. Her eyes stayed on Leo and the pup was clearly asleep, curled up and comfortable.
"Sure." He replied softly, looking at her. Leo let out a soft snore, then went quiet.
She looked around the room for a moment before focusing on him, “Why did you help me?” Her memory returned to when she had fallen through the floor and he came to her rescue, a touch of a smile crossing her face when she remembered how on guard she had been.
He hesitated, biting his lip slightly. "I… don't know." He replied quietly. "I really don't. Why?"
“Just wanted to know,” She admitted, picking at a thread on the mattress again as she softly continued, “The only reason I could think you helped me was because you pitied me, but I wasn’t really much of a pity case compared to some others I’ve seen.”
He sighed softly. "I don't know. I just… thought it would be such a stupid way to die. That's all." He replied with a shrug.
A hint of a smile settled on her face and she thought about it, “Yeah, that would’ve been a stupid way to die.” Her hand playing with the thread moved up and she rubbed her eyes for a moment before playing with the strand again. “Oh, and Jay…thank you, for saving me.”
Jay nodded. "You're welcome." He replied softly. "Although… I'm not sure how much of a favor I did you." Considering what I am and… He sighed softly.
“You saved me dummy,” She replied, rolling her eyes and smiling, “I don’t care if it was an alien themselves saving me, I’m going to say thanks.” Her body was tired, but her mind was still awake from before, leaving an interesting mix of her saying exactly what was on her mind and her body going with it without thinking further.
He chuckled. "Mm. They'd find that hilarious." He replied, looking over at her.
“What do they look like anyway? Can they speak English or any other Earth language?” She asked, her mouth blurting out every question coming to mind. Delia laid back and only turned her head to look over at him, Leo just shifting even closer against her side.
"They're shapeshifters. They can look however they want. And yes, they can speak English." He replied, looking down at the bed and picking at a loose thread.
She thought for a moment, drumming her fingers against her stomach, “What did most of them look like?”
"It varied. Some chose to look human, others looked…I can't even describe them. I…" He shook his head slightly.
Delia’s sleepy self didn’t seem to notice him trailing off, just focusing on what he first said. “Could you tell which ones were human and which were actually alien if they looked humanlike?”
He nodded. "Yeah. They didn't act or sound human." He replied with a slight shrug.
