Lucky looked at June. "Did you find any tents?" She'd mentioned it before, and he'd assumed she was going to chip in the work and look for them.
Ronni glanced up at Devon, and gestured out to the hall, where he and Liam had just come from.
You guys just kicked in a bunch of doors, feel free to stay in those rooms.
June looked at Lucky, "I didn't look. I'm sure Dev did, but he didn't bring any so I guess he didn't find any. I thought about looking, but didn't want to leave just one person in the room" she shrugged.
Devon hummed for a second. "Yeah we β¦ opened a bunch of rooms. Most seemed pretty empty. So people can crash there"
Lucky just looked at her for a moment, thinking. He reminded himself she was a teenager, and to lower his expectations, before gently saying "Would you like to help look instead of sitting around here doing nothing? You've had good ideas of things we need and that would be helpful." If they worked to inventory what they had, they could take a bigger group somewhere to look for the things they still needed.
Ronni nodded at Devon, flashing him a thumbs up. She turned her attention back to Lucas then.
"well yeah, I didn't want to leave A here all alone." June shrugged. "But, Liam wants a cow."
Lucky raised an eyebrow. "I get it about not leaving Ariella alone. I'm just offering. And I'm sorry, but he's not going to find a cow in NYC. We'll have to look for one once we're farther out west." He glanced at Liam. "I also don't think you realize how slow cows move. If we're trying to travel, we don't want anything that slow with us, till you find where you want to settle down."
"I just want the milk, A cow would be preferable so that it would be fresh, but I think that I can go without the animal." Liam said quickly. He didn't want to cause any problems and he was sure that a cow would be considered a problem. Maybe.
Lucky tried to reassure him. "They can be a lot to take care of, but if we find one, why not? I just can't think of anywhere right here in the city we would find one." He chuckled. "Sounds like a kids book title: 'A Cow in NYC'."
Ariella glanced over briefly as she hear her name. She ooked away quickly. She headed for the bathroom. She packed away the clothes she had washed the night before and left out to dry. The she looked through all the cabinets, looking to see if there was anything of interest hidden away.
"So, we find a farm. That'd be the best way to live you know, with all them animals" June said using a unnecessary weird voice.
Since he had nothing much to contribute to the conversation at hand, Alastor quietly got his backpack and belt, feeling more comfortable now that he had all of his supplies once more.
He personally didn't care where they camped out next, especially since the only ones he truly felt responsible for looking after was himself and Zeus. The dog would probably enjoy a farm to run around on anyway.
Alastor gave his animal companion the rest of the beef jerkey he had and the dog happily ate it all. He moved to a corner of the room and sat down, smiling briefly when Zeus came over and sat down besides him, wagging his tail.
"Is that your attempt at a southern accent?" Liam asked June with a smirk.
Lucky closed his eyes and ran a hand across his face. His stress level was getting to him, and he decided that simply nodding was his best course of action.
He turned and stepped towards Alastor, plopping down on the ground near him.
"Did you have any clear ideas about where you want to go?" he asked quietly.
Alastor thought about the question, not answering for a long time. When he finally did, he sounded as exhausted and as fed up with life as he felt.
"Honestly, no." He looked down at Zeus, who had laid his head on his human's lap and Alastor pet the furry creature gently. "As long as the place provides for Zeus and I, then it doesn't matter where it is. I don't have any family to worry about anymore, so that makes traveling easier for me."
Even though he still didn't know the fate of his parents and brother, in a twisted way it made Alastor feel better to think they were dead. He could force himself to move on instead of building false hope that there could be a chance that they were still alive. He hated himself for thinking like this, but he couldn't see any other option.
"Is that your attempt at a southern accent?" Liam asked June with a smirk.
"Attempt? It was a darn success" She giggled.
Lucky nodded slowly. "Now that my plans of heading to Europe have been shut down, I'm kinda in the same boat. As long as I can eat, I'm good. Thoughβ¦" He paused, trying to decide how to say this.
"Though I do think a group like this could work, despite all of us needing to grow one way or another."
Ariella didn't find anything of interest in the guest bathroom. She stepped out and found the master bathroom, rummaging through it to see if she could anything. She found a package of bandaid but everything else seemed cleared out. She out the small package in her bag.
"Well, all of us were planning on sticking together anyways for now, right?" Alastor asked glancing at Lucky. "Or were some of the others thinking of going their seperate ways tomorrow?"
"Attempt? It was a darn success" She giggled.
"It was not, it was as bad as⦠something bad." he said in an equally bad accent
"It was not, it was as bad as⦠something bad." he said in an equally bad accent
"It was bad as a β¦.dead cow in the summerβ¦or something" she smiled.
"It was bad as a β¦.dead cow in the summerβ¦or something" she smiled.
"Jaβ¦" He nodded slowly. "A dead cow in the summer. that would be bad." He looked up at her. "Especially for the cow."
"Jaβ¦" He nodded slowly. "A dead cow in the summer. that would be bad." He looked up at her. "Especially for the cow."
"It would need a funeral, 'rip cow, it ate grass' you know?" she hummed. "Poor cow"
Lucky nodded. "I was planning on sticking with, but I'm not sure about the rest. June and Devon seem pretty attached to Liam, who seems attached to you. Lucas was already heading west as well, and Ronni seems to have made a friend of him. I guess that just leaves Ariella, and⦠she might be the one to take off."
"It would need a funeral, 'rip cow, it ate grass' you know?" she hummed. "Poor cow"
"It probably gave amazing milk." He smiled. "And it would never achieve it's life long dream of being a tornato."
Ariella walked back through the living room and to the kitchen. She jumped up on the counter after getting a glass of water. She was easedropping on everyone's conversations, content to just listening.
Lucky noted Ariella walk through, and tried to get her attention, but she ignored him and headed into the kitchen.
Hmm. Interestingβ¦
