"Um… y-yeah, I think so." Milo was laying on top of Rowan by now, still whining anxiously. "M'alright, Mi… Damien's comin'…" Rowan mumbled to the dog.
"Um… y-yeah, I think so." Milo was laying on top of Rowan by now, still whining anxiously. "M'alright, Mi… Damien's comin'…" Rowan mumbled to the dog.
“Okay. Uh- I’m at your door, so I’m gonna hang up, okay? Don’t freak out when you hear the door open, it’s just me.”
"Mmkay…" Rowan put his phone down and curled up tighter. Even with Damien's warning, he couldn't help but jump a bit when the door was opened.
“It’s just me, Ro!” Damien called, walking into the living room where he assumed Rowan still was. “Are you okay, buddy?” His voice was softer than when he had come in, trying to get an answer rather than announce his presence.
"Mmm… kinda…" Rowan replied, not bothering to uncurl himself. "M'heart is still fucky and I don't like it…"
“I get it. These things suck, but they’ll pass, okay? It’s not forever.” He crouched down beside Rowan, gently raking his fingers through his hair.
Rowan slid off the couch and crawled into Damien's lap, clinging to him tightly for comfort. "Why's this keep happening to me…?"
“I can’t say, Ro. Just know that it’ll turn out okay eventually.” Damien mumbled, holding Ro and continuing to pet his hair. “Do you have an idea of what’s causin’ this one?”
"I dunno… maybe too many emotions at once? And the whole being incompetent thing is kinda stressing me out a lot…" Rowan huddled a bit closer to Damien. "I'm starving… I've just been throwing up on and off and I can't make any food for myself in this state."
“I bet..” Damien leaned back against the couch. “Can you keep down something like saltines? Normally that’s about all I can stomach when I’m sick. Just that and water.”
"Maybe…" Rowan's stomach growled angrily and he clung a bit tighter to Damien. "Why's everything gotta suck so much?"
“Keeps ya humble.” He said simply. It sounded like the type of advice your uncle would give, but.. it worked, almost. “Tell me if you need me to get anything, ‘kay?”
Rowan whined and nodded in reply, keeping his eyes closed. Milo was pacing around the two of them, whimpering anxiously.
“Just keep breathing. It’s okay..” Damien kept a hand on Rowan’s back as he looked over at Milo. He removed his hand from Ro’s hair to pat the ground lightly before returning it. “C’mere, Mi… It’s alright, buddy.”
Milo came over to Damien's side and lay down, still whining. Rowan shakily reached out one hand to pet him, which seemed to help calm the both of them down a bit.
Damien slipped his fingers through Rowan’s hair, pushing it away from his face and back. “Are you comfortable, at least?”
Rowan nodded, burying his face in Damien's shoulder. "Other than all the fuckin pain, yeah. Pretty comfy."
“Fuckin’.. yeah. At least’cha got that, then.” Damien rested his chin in the curve of Rowan’s neck.
"Mhmm… I think the world hates me…" Rowan said quietly, sighing a bit. Milo pushed his head up into Rowan's hand.
“It always feels like it.” Damien could relate to that feeling all too well. “I promise, though- you get yourself a support system, and it all works out just fine.”
"Mmmm… why can't the world just be nice?" He asked weakly. "What did I ever do to it?" He sighed again.
Damien took a tiny breath, trying to figure out what to say. “I dunno. you didn’t do jack shit, but sometimes the world is just..” He pressed his lips into a thin line. “Bad?”
"Fuck the world…" Rowan mumbled. "Big ass piece of shit, that's what it is…" He huffed and adjusted his position to be more comfortable.
“Damn straight.” Damien laughed. “Couldn’ta said it better myself.” He held Rowan against himself, getting increasingly frustrated with the feeling of pure want in his heart. This was an awful time to feel that way.
"Mhmm…" Rowan seemed to slowly be beginning to relax, comforted by Damien's warmth and closeness. He wouldn't be comfortable doing this with any of the other guys, so why Damien?
