“Then I will be sure to make up for it once we get out of the car,” Sterling declared, winking at her before pulling out of the driveway.
“Then I will be sure to make up for it once we get out of the car,” Sterling declared, winking at her before pulling out of the driveway.
Eden's face exploded in warmth at his words and she leaned down, removing her glasses and covering her face in her hands. "You're such a flirt," she mumbled, the tip of her ears turning pink. "That, or I'm easily flustered."
“Or both,” Sterling chuckled, resting over and setting his hand on her knee. “You really are very adorable when you’re like this.”
When Eden felt his hand on her knee, she stiffened. Swallowing thickly, she forced herself to calm down. Her reaction to this was pointless. He was her boyfriend, for God's sake. "Am I, now?" she whispered, not looking up. "I'm only like this for you."
Sterling hummed and turned his hand over so that it was palm up, offering for her to put her hand in his. “Yeah, you are. And I’m glad you’re only like this for me. It’s cute.”
Eden immediately slipped one of her hands in his and slid the other under it. She held his hand tightly in both of hers and hated herself for feeling relieved at not having his hand touch her leg. "Don't you need your hand for driving?" she questioned, looking at him.
“I can drive with one hand,” Sterling said, squeezing her hand gently. “I like holding your hand.”
"I know," Eden chuckled, squeezing his hand back. "The fact that you keep holding it makes it rather obvious."
Sterling hummed, smiling. “Yeah, well, it’s tiny. It fits perfectly in mine. And you’re really cute when you get flustered.”
"How dare you," Eden grumbled under her breath. "How is my fault that you're a 6'2 giant? This tiny hand has broken lots of bones, Sterling. Be wary."
“Mmhm. But it won’t be breaking any of my bones, will it?” Sterling asked, glancing over to raise an eyebrow at her quickly before turning back to the road.
Eden whistled teasingly. "Who knows, Sterling," she winked at him before bringing his hand to her mouth and pressing a light kiss to it. "No. No, it won't."
Sterling chuckled softly and tugged her hand over to his own lips, kissing hers back. “Good. That would make me sad.”
“And we don’t want that, do we?” Eden mused, squeezing his hand. “I’d hate to see you upset.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Sterling chuckled, setting their hands back in her lap. “So, what are you most excited for today?”
Eden set her other hand underneath his when he returned their linked hands. "Spending time with you," she responded softly. "I… haven't thought of anything else."
Sterling’s smile grew, and he squeezed her hand again. “Yeah, I’m excited for that, too. I really like spending time with you. It’s one of my favorite things to do,” he said softly.
"I like spending time with you, too," she murmured, lifting his hand and pressing it against her forehead, closing her eyes as she did so. "You make me feel important. I don't think I've felt that in a long time. There's a lot you make me feel that I haven't felt in so long."
Sterling was speechless for a moment, smiling softly at her words. When he finally spoke, he was quiet, “I’m glad. I’m really glad, Eden. I’m glad that I make you happy.”
“I had… viewed these feelings as weaknesses before,” she admitted quietly. “So I pushed everyone and everything away from me. I hated feeling vulnerable.”
“Well… I’m sorry for whatever happened to make you think that, but I’m glad you don’t with me,” Sterling murmured.
Eden quickly pushed those depressing thoughts away and kissed his hand again. “How long till we get there?” She questioned, squeezing his hand.
“Hm… About fifteen minutes, I think. Do you want to turn on the radio or something? I think I have CDs in the compartment in front of you,” Sterling offered, squeezing her hand.
Eden squeezed his hand back. “I’m good,” she responded, leaning her head back and closing her eyes. “I can play one for you if you’d like to listen.”
“I’d rather listen to the music if my girlfriend’s voice,” Sterling declared with a playful grin.
