"Hm… I think she'd appreciate that. As soon as her wound is healed enough, I'm sure the medics would be glad to help her do a little therapy. I've been working with them some, too," Cyrus said, walking closer to Sparrow, "It'll be tough, but she's got a fighting spirit. She's not broken. Just down for a moment. And it may be a while, but everything's going to be okay, if only she's willing to keep putting up a fight."
Sparrow leaned against him "I feel horrible. All these kids, they are touch starved. And like us, dont know how or when to show emotions. I just wish there was something I could do. I can only make things but even then I think it's because they remind me, of well, me. And the memories come rushing back, ya know?"
"Yeah… I'd like to think this is a good opportunity for all of us to learn what it's like to be human, though. We're just as clueless as those kids. That just means we have to figure it out together, okay?"
Cyrus carefully sat near the edge of the workbench and placed a hand over Sparrow's.
"But uh… yeah, they come from the same place we did. It's kind of a chilling reminder, and I fear for what they might have been shaped into had they not gotten away."
Sparrow nodded looking back at her workspace "anything you might want to add to the design?" She asked
Cyrus thought about it for a few moments.
"It looks great already. How much protection does it offer, though?"
"Now that I think about it, not much. It's more of a stealth suit. What sort of armour?" She asked
Esme leaned over both their shoulders and looked down at the paper. It was tight and black. If it had ears and a tail she could wear it as a cat costume. "I'm going to go take a shower." Her voice was low, she still was dejected. It would take a while for the wounds to heal, it may take longer for the emotions ones. Her room didn't have a shower, but the joined room did. Was she ready to see the other kids, well even if she wasn't it had to happen at some point. Opening the door she kept her head down and made a beeline to the bathroom.
Cyrus waved to Esmae, but she was already gone.
"I'm not sure. Metal plates probably aren't suitable. Maybe something bulletproof?" he suggested.
"What about an electric field? Somethings that burns anything before it comes into contact with the skin?"
Cyrus' eyes widened. "You can do that? That's amazing!"
He tried his best to contain his excitement, but it was difficult.
Sparrow laughed, nodding "firstly, you are adorable. Second, me and Eira came up with a way to wire weapons and clothing in such a way that we can have electricity buzzing, allowing a second layer of protection. It helps lower the bulk that comes with bullet proofing and works 99.9% of the time. It took a while before we could wear the suit without electrocuting ourselves." She explained, putting on her goggles and pulling out a blueprint for the qoring she was explaining.
Cyrus smiled at being called adorable, then listened to her closely.
"That sounds like it would be perfect for this suit, then. Still light, but it should keep her protected. But wow… it amazes me that technology can do some of the things you guys make it do."
"Wanna help me do it? Or we can go out for a walk, itll help your peg wont it?" She smiled
"I'm not so good with that kind of tech," Cyrus admitted, "Let's go get some fresh air. It'll be good for both of us."
Sparrow nodded and left the table, stretching and then looking at Cyrus "shall we?" She asked holding out an arm.
Cyrus felt a slight tingling, happy sensation in his fingertips. He happily took hold of Sparrow's arm and left his crutch sitting at the workbench.
Sparrow acted as his support and walked with him towards one of the exits, walking at a pace slow enough to help Cyrus but fast enough that they reached the doors quick.
Cyrus was walking at a slow, but fairly normal pace, and he was able to support most of his own weight, with some pain, but not much.
"Well, things aren't feeling quite as bad now," he said, "I'm lucky it didn't break."
Sparrow nodded "at least you can still walk. Did you get a brace?" She asked
It took about 30 minutes for Esmae to take her shower, usually it wouldn't take that long, but today she just wanted to sit under the warm water. After, she dried off and tried to sneak away so questions wouldn't be asked. She wasn't ready for any right now.
Sparrow nodded "at least you can still walk. Did you get a brace?" She asked
"Uh… Yeah, I did," Cyrus said, "That should help a bit, at least. It was pretty painful the first few days. Now it's just certain stuff."
He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
"I'm not really worried about my injuries anymore. I'm a lot more worried about Esmae, and then of course, Uriah…"
"Any word from him?" Sparrow asked, spending one year with him had made them really close. Their bond was similar to that of siblings now
The bird with the letter landed on a window, waiting for some one to take it. Esmae was done showering and wiped the steam from the mirror to look at herself. A sigh escaped her lips and she looked away. Getting dressed and brushing out her hair, when she was done she walked out of the bathroom and saw all the other kids in there. It was weird, but now she felt lower than all of them.
Luna spotted the bird. She walked up and took the letter before quickly glancing over it. She would have to tell the others about this and set out to find them.
Katya looked up to Esmae. She didn't say anything, but kept in her little ball of guilt.
Cyrus shook his head. "Unfortunately, no. I almost wish we hadn't sent him, but I… I don't think there was any other choice."
Vida began to stir a little when Esmae walked into the room, and she woke up all sweaty and gross, but was too tired to move or do anything about it. She cast her gaze to the other girl, but was completely silent. Something seemed different about her.
Esmae just stood there for a few moments before walking to the door. But before she walked out, you could hear the click of the dog collar. After she put it around her neck is when she walked out. Instead of going to sleep like most of the people here, Esmae went to the gym. She could still work out even if her arm was hurt. If her weak shoulder was going to be in the way, she would just have to make the other one even stronger. But for now, she would work on her legs. Esmae did squats and everything else you could think about.
"Its been too long without any word from him. I wonder if he's alright." She sighed
Nathan came out of the shower and gave a small smile to Esmae as he headed to his bed
"Damn it. Stupid shoulder just heal already!" Esmae shouted and it echoed throughout the room. As sweat dripped from her forehead, she laid on the ground. Her chest pumping up and down from the work out. Feeling out of it all day, it was only after working out and cutting up a few dummies is when she felt normal.
"Are you– are you ok?" Nathan called from his bed
