Cicada stepped up to the counter smiling and spoke to the lady behind the counter, "Um, can I get the fudge brownie please?"
The lady nodded smiling and looked to Phoenix.
Cicada stepped up to the counter smiling and spoke to the lady behind the counter, "Um, can I get the fudge brownie please?"
The lady nodded smiling and looked to Phoenix.
"I'll have a small mint chocolate chip waffle cone please." Phoenix hummed, smiling softly as he pulled his wallet from his pocket. "Do you want anything else, Cicada?"
"Nah I'm good," Cicada responded as the lady rang them up. She was fine with just her ice cream in a cup with a spoon and a single scoop. Her ex always nagged on her about putting on weight anyway and she had eaten a lot today already.
Paying for their ice cream, Phoenix smiled as he turned to lead her over to the tables. "Shall we walk and eat, or sit down for a bit?" He asked her with a slight hum and glee to his tone.
Cicada walked over to the table and thought for a moment. A smile was on her face hearing how happy he was. She could keep walking, but sitting sounded nice, "We can sit and eat for a bit. We've been walking for a while now."
"Alright m'lady. Pick a table then." Phoenix hummed, tipping his cone to start licking up the frozen treat. "Wherever you want, I'm happy to sit where you want to."
Cicada dug her spoon in and took a bit of the ice cream. She hummed at the combination of flavors and walked over to a corner booth, "How about over here? Does this look good?"
"As long as you're happy, it's perfect." He hummed out, waiting for her to sit before he did. "You know… you said you transferred colleges, but you never said which you transferred from.
"Oh, uh, it's a little college a couple of hours away from here. Arcadia?" Cicada responded hesitating with her words. She kept tapping her spoon on her ice cream out of creeping anxiety about talking about her old life.
He definitely noticed her nervousness about the topic, deciding to play dumb just to try and make her more comfortable. "Huh, don't think I've heard of it." Phoenix shrugged, attempting to quickly come up with a second topic rather desperately.
"Like I said it was pretty small," Cicada responded her muscles wound up. She was ready to run if anyone recognized that name or recognized her. She tried to play it off quickly by eating her ice cream it didn't help the bundle of nerves she had come.
"Nice… just curious. Are you hoping to stay here until you graduate?" Phoenix offered, still struggling to find something else to talk about. Though the transition would be quite awkward.
"Um, yeah I am," Cicada responded relaxing ever so slightly at the change of topic. She was still ready to run though, "At least that's my plan. If it'll fall through only time will tell."
"Sounds like a tough motto to live by." Phoenix hummed, licking the little bit of ice cream off his lips. "But it's a good thing to have in the back of your mind. I'll have to remember that."
"Yeah, I've never been one to really plan in advanced," Cicada rubbed at the back of her neck before she took another spoonful of ice cream. Her life was an unpredictable mess and that never really would change, "But I'm trying to do better."
"Trying is always good. Just don't push yourself too hard." Phoenix hummed, scooping a little bit of his ice cream onto his finger. "You don't need to stress yourself for planning." He hummed, booping the tip of her nose to get ice cream on it.
Cicada looked startled for a moment as he booped her resisting the urge to slap him again. She gave him a smile and booped his nose with the back of her spoon getting ice cream on his nose too, "Yeah, and you don't need to worry about me. Worry about yourself and your classes."
"Hold up, I never said don't worry about other people. I just said don't stress yourself out." He hummed, wiping off the bit of ice cream with his thumb. Licking it off, he went back to eating his cone. "So I'm definitely going to care about you enough to worry. We're friends now, aren't we?"
Cicada let out a laugh as she licked the ice cream off her nose before going to eat her own ice cream, "We are. Sorry, just, again thing about people and them actually caring. Wait, forget I brought it up again."
"It's all good." Phoenix nodded with a slight smile. He didn't want to upset her, so he just let the last bit blur as they sat there. "Is your ice cream good?"
Cicada nodded and smiled at her as she ate up another spoonful, "Yeah it's really good. How about yours? Mint chip as good as it normally is?"
"Yup! It's just perfect." Phoenix responded with a boyish grin. He bit down into the waffle cone, enjoying the taste of the two flavors mixed together. "Mmm…."
Cicada laughed and smiled over at him. He really seemed to be enjoying himself, "I'm glad you enjoy it."
"I really do… I haven't had ice cream in awhile." He admitted, breaking off some more of the cone to scoop it up. "Do you wanna head back after this, or keep going?"
"How do you feel?" Cicada asked him in return. She hadn't had ice cream in a while as well and it was an enjoyable treat that she hoped she could have again soon, "I can keep going if you want to."
