Smoke batted at another leaf distractedly. "But…that doesn't make any sense." He replied.
Smoke batted at another leaf distractedly. "But…that doesn't make any sense." He replied.
"A lot of what I do doesn't make sense." Derlik watched Smoke play with the leaf with a little smile. He reached out, patting Smoke's head.
Smoke looked up at him. "But…what are you going to do to Nik and me?" He questioned curiously.
"Keep you. Care for you. Mostly, just how Nik is to you already." Derlik basically admitted it without saying it; both Nik and Smoke were his pets now.
"But Nik is a person, not a pet." Smoke pointed out, still so very confused as to what was going on.
"I don't see any difference. He was a cat earlier, anyway." Derlik shrugged. He didn't really care. A pet was a pet, didn't matter what it was.
(i gtg sorry)
Smoke frowned. "But…but…" he shook his head. "No, he's not a pet. He's a person."
(yeah, me to)
"Most gods see humans like I do. As pets." He shrugged again. "Nik will get used to it. You'll both be with me for a very long time, after all."
Smoke cocked his head. "How long?" he asked innocently.
"The rest of your lives," Derlik answered. He reached out, scratching Smoke's head lightly. "Even longer. Our souls are tied together."
Smoke blinked in confusion, purring quietly at the gentle touch. "But…"
"Things will work out," Derlik promised. "You'll be okay, and Nik too. It might seem like a long time, but it'll be okay."
Derlik continued to gently pet Smoke, giving him a soft smile. He really was different when he cared about someone. Or maybe he was just manipulating Smoke to get to Nik. It was hard to tell, even for him.
It was probably both, to be honest.
Smoke purred again, leaning into the touch and shrugging his shoulders a little bit. He was only a cat; he didn't really care what happened so long as he was fed.
Derlik chuckled at Smoke's response. He really was just a cat. He scratched Smoke's head still, picking up a leaf a lightly twirling it in front of Smoke's nose.
Smoke's eyes popped open, and he nipped at the leaf, batting with his hands to try and grab at it. His grey-striped tail twitched a little, and his ears pricked.
Derlik moved the leaf around, keeping it just out of Smoke's reach as the cat tried to get the leaf from him. He held the leaf above Smoke's head, cooing a little again.
Smoke kept batting at the leaf, trying to get at it.
Derlik flitted the leaf around, using the tip to touch Smoke's nose. Then, he just so happened to lose his grip on the leaf, letting Smoke take it from him. He smiled.
Smoke snatched the leaf and, without even thinking, stuffed it in his mouth, looking up at Derlik happily.
Derlik let out a laugh, using both hands to scratch Smoke's head.
"Good kitty," he said, giving Smoke a bright smile.
Smoke purred, leaning into Derlik's hands. He crunched on the leaf for a moment, then spat it out again.
"Doesn't taste good, does it~" Derlik laughed, grinning. He continued to pet Smoke, moving a little closer to him to reach better.
Smoke shook his head. "Nuh uh." he replied, poking at the leaf with a finger before looking up at Derlik.
Derlik smiled, scratching behind Smoke's ear, his other hand going to run his back.
"That's what I thought." He hummed a little, thinking as he pet Smoke.
"I wonder how Nik it doing…" He mumbled to himself.
Smoke arched into the touch, purring happily as his eyes slipped shut.
Nik was, in fact, a little bit calmer, but still definitely in shock about this.
