Derlik let out a long, heavy sigh. He lifted Nik closer to himself, taking his second hand away.
"You need some alone time? Just nod your head if you do." He could see Nik wasn't going to be speaking any time soon.
Derlik let out a long, heavy sigh. He lifted Nik closer to himself, taking his second hand away.
"You need some alone time? Just nod your head if you do." He could see Nik wasn't going to be speaking any time soon.
Nik nodded a little bit, still curled up tightly into himself, sniffling quietly. All of this was hitting him at once, and it felt like he couldn't breathe.
Derlik looked around for a place to put Nik. He highly doubted being put in Derlik's pocket, as originally intended, would cut it. And Derlik didn't want to completely break Nik, not yet anyway. Eventually, he stood, walking around to the other side of the large boulder he had been sitting on. He knelt down, tucking the side of the boulder and forming a fairly good sized 'cave' for Nik, which he could easily get out of to the ground. Derlik put a couple softer leaves in it, then gently set Nik down.
(gtg soon sorry)
Nik glanced up at him for a moment, then curled up on the leaves, arms tucked tightly around himself with his legs pulled close to his body. He hated this. Hated that he had no control over this.
(ah, alright then! See you later then!)
Derlik let out a soft breath, wondering faintly if Nik hated him. Well, it didn't really matter. They were stuck with each other now. Derlik straightened up, making his way back to the front of the boulder. He cooed a little at Smoke, picking the kitten up.
"How do you feel about being human~?" He purred, not expecting any understandable answer.
(see you!)
Nik curled up tighter, trying not to cry. But his throat felt so tight and his body shook as he held back the tears. Smoke meowed quietly, blinking up at Derlik and batting at him.
Derlik could feel, vaguely, how distressed Nik was, but he didn't really care right now. He chuckled at what Smoke did, scratching his head before his hand went to Smoke's cheek. In a moment, Derlik was standing with the now human Smoke in his arms.
Smoke meowed again in confusion, squirming in Derlik's arms. He looked like he must be between 15 and 18, his hair a silvery color and his eyes a yellow gold. Ears poked up from his hair, and a tabby-striped tail curled up from his body.
"Hey, you're okay," Derlik said. To be honest, kids and animals had a one way ticket to Derlik caring about them. He gently rubbed Smoke's head, setting him down.
"Can you try to talk like me?"
(gtg now for real. Good night!)
Smoke sat down cross-legged, looking in confusion at his hands and feet, then up at Derlik again. "Where's Nik? What's going on?" he asked slowly, the words sounding unfamiliar to him.
(oof, okie then! Good night!)
Derlik sat down on the boulder.
"Nik is having some alone time right now to think about things. And you and Nik are going to be staying with me from now on, okay?" He gave Smoke a small smile.
Smoke shifted around so that he was crouching now, fingertips pressed to the ground. "But…" he frowned, looking confused. "I don't understand."
"What don't you understand?" Derlik asked. He slid off the boulder to Smoke's level, tilting his head a little.
"I can explain if you tell me what I need to."
Smoke looked up at him, blinking. "Anything." he replied, cocking his head. His eyes flicked to a leaf drifting by, and without really thinking about it, he struck at it.
Derlik smiled as Smoke struck at the leaf.
"Well… Everything is a lot to explain. Is there anything in particular you want to know more about?"
Smoke looked up at Derlik again. "Why am I here? Why am I…like this? Who are you?"
"I'll start with the easy questions," Derlik said. "My name is Derlik. I'm a god! I've got amazing powers. That explains why you're like this- I used my powers to make you human for a bit. If course, you'll be able to go back to normal when you want to. As for why you're here… Well, that's simple. Because I want you to."
He frowned sligtly. "But why? Where's Nik?" he asked again, shifting uncertainly as he looked up at Derlik.
"Nik wanted to be alone for a while," Derlik explained. "And I've always liked him. I wanted to give him something special."
Smoke looked confused. "What do you mean you've always liked him?" he asked, cocking his head in confusion.
"Well, I've known of Nik for a while. I've kept my tabs on him. We've… Interacted before." He gave Smoke a smile.
Smoke still seemed confused. "But he's never mentioned you." He said. "Not that I can remember."
"He probably didn't," Derlik agreed. "I had been a couple years since I last saw him." He tapped his legs with his fingers, letting out a soft sigh.
"Well why are you back now?" He frowned, still not understanding.
"Because I wanted to," Derlik admitted. "I do a lot just on a whim. I'm the god of chaos, it's what I do."
