"Just laying on the couch. I couldn't sleep either." He laid back down, reaching down and scooping up the ball once again.
"Just laying on the couch. I couldn't sleep either." He laid back down, reaching down and scooping up the ball once again.
"Oh," she said, walking a bit closer. "I was thinking of having a snack at midnight. Like Beast Boy and Cyborg do sometimes. I thought maybe it could help me sleep." She smiled sheepishly.
He paused mid-throw in thought.
"Well, milk and cookies always made me sleepy as a kid," he suggested, glancing over at her again.
"Do we have that?" she asked, imagining him as a child. She seemed a bit childish herself, curious and possibly a bit excited at the prospect.
He nodded, then chose to stand up and pocket the ball.
"Yeah if Cybrog didn't raid the pantry again. C'mon, I'll show you."
He was wearing a simple black T-Shirt and a pair of athletic shorts. Besides his costume, he always seemed to dress moderately, which was odd coming from living with a millionaire for 15 years.
Starfire smiled a little, following him. She was wearing a lilac pajama shirt and darker mauve pajama shorts. Her long red hair was a bit messy from laying in bed, trying to sleep, but her green eyes glittered with alertness.
Winston turned on the light in the kitchen, wincing as his eyes seared from how bright it was. After a few moments of wincing, he headed towards the fridge, opening it up and sighing.
"Well, there's enough milk for one glass." He pulled the gallon out and shut the door. "Guess I can live without milk this time."
Starfire blinked several times before her eyes finally adjusted to the light. "Or we could split it," Starfire suggested. "It is your childhood snack."
He tilted his head for a moment. "If you're alright with it, sure."
He then pulled a hidden panned from under the pantry, and out came a full box of Oreos. Winston turned to her with a small smile. "So, they haven't found it yet."
"You have a secret stash?" she asked innocently, the idea never having occurred to her. She smiled. "So cookies and milk then?"
He nodded, scooting past her to grab a cup. Their hands touch in passing and Winston had to hold back a small blush as he opened the cupboard and pulled out a large glass.
Starfire glanced at him as their hands touched, feeling a zing of electricity. She tried not to blush and instead focused on the food. “I hope this helps me sleep.”
"It'll either get you to sleep," he said, pouring out the milk, "Or keep you up all night. It's a little hit or miss, to be honest."
“Oh,” she said. She had sort of thought that it actually made someone just fall asleep, but didn’t voice the thought. “Well, at least if it ends up keeping me awake, you’ll be awake with me.”
Winston smiled slightly as he handed the cupp to her. "I wouldn't call that much of a plus. I'm known to be a bit moody."
Starfire smiled. “Of course it’s a plus,” she replied before taking a long sip and handing it back. Milk had an odd flavor. She made a face without realizing it.
He snorted, gesturing to her lips as he walked over to the table. "You got a milk mustache."
“What?” she asked, confused. She licked above her lips in an attempt to feel it. “Why would I have a mustache made of milk?”
He sat down and opened up the Oreos, motioning for her to sit down to. "It gets stuck up there whenever you drink. Just wipe it off with your hand."
Starfire attempted to do as he instructed. “Did I get it?” she asked, sitting down next to him.
He chuckled quietly. "Not at all."
He reached over and gently wiped the milk from her upper lip as he pulled an Oreo from the package. "The best part of these cookies are when you dip them into the milk."
Starfire raised an eyebrow, the tingles from him touching her fading. “You dip them in the milk?” she asked, watching curiously.
He nodded, showing her how to do it before popping the whole cookie into his mouth. "Tastes awesome."
She giggled. “If you say so.” She copied him, enjoying the taste more than the plain milk. This made it less weird and more bearable, and almost good. Okay, so she loved it.
He saw the look in her eyes and grinned. "See? I told you.'
