"Oh, I am still wearing the same thing from yesterday, aren't I?" She asked, changing the subject and looking down at her clothes. "It is a good thing I keep a change in the truck."
"Oh, I am still wearing the same thing from yesterday, aren't I?" She asked, changing the subject and looking down at her clothes. "It is a good thing I keep a change in the truck."
He scooted over for her to have space to get up. "Yeah, I should probably change too."
"If I am not back in ten minutes, I might have been hit by a car." She joked, standing up and stretching.
He snorted. "The car would be more hurt than you."
"Probably. The driver would not fare too well either." She slipped her shoes back on and headed out the door. "Shout if you need me."
He immediately shouted.
She turned around, leaning back in the doorway with an eyebrow raised. "What is it? Something wrong?"
"I'm always gonna need you." ((Kaching!
"Actually, just text me if you need." She said hurriedly, face heating up quickly.
He laughed, standing up. "I'mma go change, too."
She nodded, shutting the door behind her and hurrying to her truck. She changed easily, having swapped clothes in vehicles before, and set to doing her makeup.
He walked down about 5 minutes later, in a simple orange T-Shirt and a pair of jeans with a paint stain on them.
She climbed out and headed back to the house, answering her phone without thinking. "Delacroix." She froze when the caller responded, turning her back to the house as she answered in French.
He peeked out the window and saw Manon speaking on the phone. He tilted his head, confused.
"Jean, arrête. Je ne vais pas … non. Je raccroche." She was clearly upset, shaking her head as she talked quickly. She didn't hang up though, still listening to the other person as she turned back around, going inside.
((He can't really do much from inside, and he isn't the type to go investigate, so….?
((I got it!
He walked away from the blinds and picked Jaiden up, who continued to play with her doll.
"Tu es celui qui les a choisis à la place de moi, Jean." She hung up after that, looking like she was about to cry as she looked for Eli. She needed to feel safe, happy, and that was how he made her feel.
He started bouncing up and down, making Jaiden giggle and drop the doll.
That made her smile a bit, and she walked over to them, tucking her phone into the pocket of her jeans.
He heard the footsteps and turned around, frowning. "You alright?"
She tried to force a brighter smile, failing. "Yes, I am fine."
He set Jaiden down. "Why do you have to keep this up? Do you not tru-?" he cut his sentence off, looking at his feet.
She shook her head quickly. "No! It is not-not that I do not trust you. I just…thought that I could pretend it was it happening." She wrapped her arms around herself, biting her lip. "It is unfortunately not working."
