“That would lovely,” Aurelie responded, looking back at her with a smile.
“That would lovely,” Aurelie responded, looking back at her with a smile.
Cat took her hand and led her down he path. Going down the hill was harder than going up but Cat made it look easy.
Aurelie did her best to not fall, and managed to stay on her feet (mostly). She descended clumsily.
Cat made sure to hold her hand the whole time.
Once they reached the bottom, Aurelie reluctantly began walking towards the palace. She knew she had to be home soon, but she wasn’t excited about it.
Cat kept holding her hand walking with her.
Aurelie sighed when arrived at the castle. “See you tomorrow, love,” she said softly, looking into Cat’s eyes.
“See you tomorrow mi amore,” she promises letting go of her hand. She smiles and looks around to make sure no ones watching before she kisses her quickly.
Aurelie waved goodbye and turned around, walking into the castle. She took a deep breath before actually going inside, and then slipped in a side door.
Cat watched her go and then turned away. She needed to prepare for tomorrow.
Aurelie made it to her room without being stopped again, thankfully. She hoped her father wouldn't notice that she'd been avoiding him.
Cat got some clothes and other stuff ready for tomorrow. she slept over Valentina's place and woke up the next day listening for news about Aurelie. she knew that news would travel fast.
That night, Aurelie's father had the talk with her that she had been dreading, basically telling her that she would marry whoever woke her up and give him grandchildren, which Aurelie balked at. Luckily for her, she was a great actress. The next morning, the moment she woke up she was surrounded by maids to get her looking perfect. She took a bath and then tried not to scream as the maids dressed her in a fancy, pale pink and green ballgown and did her hair. They covered her in makeup and perfume as well. Then the maids cleaned Aurelie's room and arranged everything so that it looked picture perfect. She just wanted to get everything over with. She was about to try to escape and find Eli when she felt her eyes grow heavy. Not so fast! I didn't think it would happen like this! she cried internally as she began to fall asleep. The maids laid her on her bed, and the last thing she saw before nodding off were their faces.
Cat didn’t need to hear everyone talk about it. She knew when Aurelie fell asleep. She could feel it. She wanted to cry but instead she got ready. Showing her hair into a hat and getting into men’s clothes. Valentina made her look like a real man. After a few hours of of trying not to cry she learned that they where letting commoners try at the princess hand. She nearly puked at the thought of Aurelie having to be kissed by a bunch of men. She waited in line.
Eli anxiously watched the action unfold. He felt bad for his friend, since he could not imagine what it must be like. Most of the guys who were trying to kiss the princess seemed decent, but he noticed a few of them try to get away with copping a feel or saying something to their friends and laughing. He balled his fists, hoping that Cat was somehow there. Before he could go look for her, Aurelie's father noticed him. Oh shit, he thought, slightly weirded out at the idea of kissing his best friend.
"Elijah, what are you doing?" King Nolan asked, studying his anxious demeanor. "You look so nervous. Are you afraid to kiss Aurelie?"
"N-no, sir," Eli managed, swallowing.
"You two have always made such a great pair, and if it doesn't work out, you can be her friend," the king added. He smiled. "You can make sure she stays in line. Speaking of lines, why don't you get in line?" Eli tried not to grimace. He knew that he couldn't very well refuse the king, though, so he nodded and got in line.
Cat recognized the person I front of her in line as Eli. “Hey,” she whispered her voice low trying to get his attention without drawing attention to either of them. She was wearing the nicest men’s clothing Valentina could get her on short notice. Meaning that she looked under dressed for a noble but to overly dressed for a peasant.
Eli jumped, but calmed down quickly and glanced behind him. He squinted, trying to figure out how he knew this person before realizing it was Cat. "Thank the gods you're here," he mumbled, just loud enough for her to hear.
“Yeah I can’t believe how long the line is. I thought most people would have tried by now,” she whispers.
Eli shrugged. "There's a lot of people in this kingdom," he replied quietly. "Besides, some of the guys here are a bit older or younger than they probably should be." He inclined his head towards a middle-aged man who was holding the hand of a kid who looked about ten. It was hard to mask his disgust. He wished that they wouldn't allow men whose ages were drastically different from Aurelie's. It was bad enough that all of this was happening anyway.
“I wish I could have gotten on sooner,” she said trying not to look at the people in front of her. They where going to kiss Aurelie…she shook her head slightly.
"I wish you could too," Eli agreed. "The king is actually kind of making me, but at least I'm her friend." He sighed. "And her age."
Cat nodded trying to ignore the older men she saw in the line. “Yeah. Hey I need a dude name. Any recommendations?” She asked trying to lighten the mood. “When I wake up the princess they might start asking questions and seeing as I’m a wanted criminal…”
“Ummm…how about Nathaniel? Or Jack?” Eli suggested. “Or you could try Isaac. That’s my cousin’s name.”
“I like Isaac I’ll go with that. Isaac Baker!” She announced still whispering.
Eli smiled and nodded. “That’s a good choice.” He glanced ahead of them. “Hey, look! We’re getting closer! In no time, you’ll be able to kiss Aurelie and get this whole disaster over with!”
