Jake gave him a side smile, sensing the nervousness behind his laugh, but that soon ended as he saw someone approach Lighter from behind. Instead of taking the bite out of his pancake he laid it back down when he noticed Lighter turn completely pale. He heard the familiarness the voice had towards Lighter, which made Jake question if they were friends. Marcy? He thought. They definitely had to have a relation between each other. Jake was about to dismiss it until he caught the sneer the guy aimed towards him and how Lighter stayed quiet. "My name is Jake. And I take it. You two know each other?" He says with an edge to his tone. He looks at Lighter, searching his face for any hints but comes out empty, which was weird because he could usually read expressions. Except Lighter didn't have one.

@Toxic_Persephone group

Marx took a seat next to Lighter, who flinched as if expecting some backlash from the action. “Jake?” He scoffed. “Yes we do know each other. He and I dated for awhile. It’s a shame he broke it off. I really did like him.” He cooed, looking over at Lighter. The poor kid looked terrified, asking Jake silently for help. “He’s been my turn-to forever it seems.”

“M-Marx… you should l-leave. Isn’t there something you need to be doing?” Lighter finally said, growing some confidence. The angry, cruel look that crossed Marx’s face couldn’t be missed. Lighter flinched again as Marx reached to grab a desert menu from the center of the table.

“You two seem close…” the gang leader growled under his breath, glancing at Lighter and glaring at Jake. Lighter growled back.

“Yeah, that’s because we are. Leave Jake alone, Marx. Just because you’re bitter doesn’t mean you have to make everyone else bitter.” The backlash Lighter was going to get later for this was enough to make him cringe now.

@faltering_through pets

(Oh my GOD I just read it again and I am shOOK SMOL BOI LIGHTER GATHERING HIS COURAGE)

Jake's expression darkened, it's like a switch had been flipped because one moment he was still a friendly loveable person then the next his sadistic side was taking over. One that his family had created. Jake smirks darkly at Marx as he leans back in his chair, his eyes screamed murder. "Oh well that's too bad because me and Lighter are now dating~ What a shame indeed~" He said, antagonizing Marx. In an instant his glaring eyes turn to Lighter, his expression softens when he tries to defend himself.

Jake physically restrained himself from getting up and starting a fight with Marx. He didn't want this. yes he did. He wanted to wanted so bad to see the blood draining from the guy's body. A smile crept up to Jake's face but he quickly gritted his teeth. He was not that person anymore. Jake felt like he was going to be sick as he tried to keep his thoughts and urges to himself. Though for Lighter and Marx, Jake was still glaring at the intruder who had sat beside his boyfriend.

@Toxic_Persephone group

(Yeaaah stand up my little boi! But dang your boi is scary!! 0.0)

Marx’s head snapped to Lighter at the mention of dating. A fury lit up his gray eyes. Lighter knew he was in for it later. “Is that so?” He asked, bitterly staring at Jake as he wrapped an arm around Lighter, Who tensed.

“Yes it is true.” Came the reply from Lighter. He pushed Marx off of him, glaring. “And I love him and he loves me. I wouldn’t change a thing no matter what anyone says. That sounds cheesy but it’s true.” He grumbled.

@faltering_through pets

(Lmaoo yeah that's Jake for ya)

As soon as Marx did so much as touch Lighter he bolted up, making the table shake a bit. He let Lighter speak for himself but it was clear that Jake was ready to rip the guy a new one. "Leave." Jake said looking down at the table, his face was covered by his hair so you couldn't see his expression. "Leave before I lose my temper."

@Toxic_Persephone group

(Spooookkyyyy)

Marx only laughed. “Be careful who you’re threatening. Lighter here might just get the blunt end of it.” He replied smoothly, standing. He winked at Lighter and took a piece of his bacon. “Bye, Marcy~! I’ll see you later.” A dangerous look flashed in his eyes as he sauntered off. Lighter remained silent, looking down at his food.

His face lifted a moment after his tormentor was gone, a soft, worried smile painting his lips. “Jake he’s gone now. Come sit by me…. please.” Though Lighter appeared calm and collected, his hands shook uncontrollably and the fear in his eyes never left.

@faltering_through pets

(Lmaoo)

God this guy was so infuriating! Jake kept glaring at the guy until he left. He relaxed his posture but he didn't sit or move. His eyes dart around the table, calculating and cold. He scanned their plates as if somehow the answers to his questions were written on them. He went back. Way back. Until his head showed him a specific scene he wanted to see. It was just seconds before he had slammed into Lighter but he was clearly standing there, waiting for someone. Fast forward to their night, the scar, the text message, his expression, the joke, his nervous posture, the guy who came in just now, the 'we missed you last night' and finally, Lighter's expressionless face like he had been….. "ugh." Jake finally sat down, placing his head on the table while holding his head with both hands. Sometimes he wished he could break the horrible habit of suspecting people, but his brain would have everything down before he knew it. He hated that about himself. He looked up at Lighter at the mention of sitting beside him. He had figured it out too late but that was only because he let his guard down and maybe it was a good thing. Jake stared at Lighter for a few seconds, the fear in his eyes broke Jake's train of thought and he felt disgusted with himself for placing the pieces together. He slowly got up and sat down beside Lighter, but refused to look at him. Was he going to do this? Yes. Should he? All his instincts screamed no. He had already picked a fight with a guy from a gang. He sighed deeply, hating himself for his next move. He places his hand on Lighter's shaky ones and gives him a firm squeeze. He moves closer and hugs him, pressing his face into his chest lightly while running his hand through his curls.

@Toxic_Persephone group

(OOF HE FIGURED IT OUT)

Lighter had caught Jake’s refusal to look at him. A feeling of dread filled his chest. Had Jake figured it out? Did he know who Marx was? Did he know who he was. He felt sick, his stomach was churning.

It wasn’t like Lighter had asked to join a gang… Marx was the one who introduced him to that lifestyle. He had been caught in a time where he felt there was only way out of his abuse and that was death. But he didn’t want to die. Marx promised freedom.

That freedom never came. And now here he was, knowing for a fact that tonight he was in for one hell of a beating all because he spoke… it was enough to wrack the usually emotionless male to his core. There was only one way out… only one. No one would miss him. Not a single person. He was a burden to those around. Jake could never be happy with someone like him.

And then, he was in Jake’s arms. A warm feeling drove away his dark thoughts of suicide. He felt safe and loved. It only broke him more. “J-Jake… I’m sorry.” he choked out, suddenly breaking down. Hot tears ran down his face, his chest and throat felt tight. For the first time since his mother had died, Lighter was crying.

@faltering_through pets

(OH MY GOD MY POOR BOI LIGHTER)
(MY HEART)

Jake gritted his teeth. He shouldn't have said anything to the guy, much less called him out like that. If what he was thinking was true then he had fucked up big time, not for himself but for Lighter. He didn't know what relationship Lighter and the guy had but it didn't look like a good one. Jake hugs Lighter tighter in hopes of comforting him. Jake felt his soul tear in two when he heard Lighter cry. He had something important for once and it was being broken down slowly. "It's alright, I won't let you go anywhere. I won't let them do anything to you," he knew that he might not be able to keep what he said next but he sure as hell would die trying. "I promise."

@Toxic_Persephone group

(HES A WRECK WAITING TO HAPPEN)

“I have to go…” He bawled, clutching at Jake’s clothing. He shook his head, embarrassed that he broke down like this. “I don’t want them to hurt you.” He murmured as he sunk into Jake’s chest, defeated. There was no way he could protect him. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you earlier… about the gang.”

@faltering_through pets

(LMAOO THEY BOTH ARE)
Although Jake had been pretty pissed in the second that he figured it out, he couldn't find it in his heart not to forgive Lighter. "It's fine, I imagine you had your reasons. Don't stress about it okay?" Jake pulls apart from Lighter slightly and wipes his tears with his glove like sleeves. "Besides, now that I know, you won't be going anywhere." Jake said firmly. "Even if I have to kidnap you and hold you prisoner someplace" Jake smiled warmly at Lighter, only half meaning what he said.

@Toxic_Persephone group

“I never meant to join. I promise. I’m not a bad person… I just…” He couldn’t bring himself to lie to himself again. He knew he was a bad person. “I’m sorry.” He murmured when Jake pulled back and wiped his tears. “D-dont. I don’t want them to hurt you. They kill people who get in their way.” He studied his lover’s face for a long while. “I understand if you want to leave me. I would too.” He said with a soft sigh. “You have every right to back out now. Say whatever you want.”

@faltering_through pets

Jake suddenly laughed. It looked like his family had finally succeeded in driving him crazy because he could not believe that he was actually considering staying with Lighter. If anything he should have been running away at this very second knowing that the gang could kick his ass. He hadn't escaped to get caught into another world of darkness. Jake was the type to use logic above everything else but his brain must have gone haywire or something if he was actually thinking of staying. The sadistic smile was back on Jake's face as he looked at Lighter curiously. What in the hell did this kid have that drove him to make the most idiotic choices?? "I refuse to back out. Who backs out of a good challenge? If they kill people that get in their way then I'll give them a taste of their own medicine~ This is beyond amusing if that guy thinks he's about to have you all to himself" a wave of irritation washed over him as he imagined his face from earlier. Jake holds his head, a small headache taking over. "S-sorry…I don't….know what…" He looked at Lighter. "I won't. I can't just leave you with those people because you're not like them! You're not a bad person!" He said, seeming to have returned to normal. He cupped Lighter's face. "If you wanna know how I feel about this and whether I'm staying or not…" He leans towards Lighter and kissed him, just like the first time he had kissed him. "Then that's my answer. I'd rather die than to see you like this" He said, meaning the way Lighter had broken down and cried.

@Toxic_Persephone group

Lighter seemed to shrink away from Jake’s angry words. He was too much of a coward to do anything about it. But Jake was here willing to kill. Fir a small moment, Lighter feared what could happen.

It all disappeared at Jake’s answer. Lighter flinched, growing slightly confused. “You’re staying?” He asked softly, listening to him speak. He felt like crying again but had more control over it this time. His questions were answered by the kiss. “I love you…” He murmured, burying his face in Jake’s chest. “I love the hell out of you.”

@faltering_through pets

(and fear you shall, even I'm starting to get scared by Jake lmaoo)

Jake smiled warmly. "I love you too…I just…" He paused slightly. "I just want you to know that I'm here for you. If you ever need anything you don't have to hesitate to ask me, I'll get it for you, even if it may seem out of my reach" He pets Lighter's head, his hand had begun to shake slightly. Monsters lurk in the dark, that's where they were meant to stay. A monster out of its environment terrifies everyone. Jake didn't like thinking about it because he refused to believe anything his brothers said, but in that moment when he lost control of what he was saying, fear had tugged at his heart. Jake had killed, yes. How many animals had he killed? How many living beings? How many humans? The thought made him tense up, his eyes wide. This was the moment when he realized that he wasn't scared of his family or what they might do to him, this was the moment he realized that he was scared of himself and what he might do to those around him.

@Toxic_Persephone group

(ACK JAKE NO WE STILL LOVE YOU)

Lighter pulls Jake into a tight hug. “You’re the first to stay…” He bit his tongue to keep from bawling again. It was embarrassing. “Can we go back home?” He asked softly. Lighter didn’t want to be out in the open. He felt vulnerable and weak.

He wasn’t quite a monster that lurked in the dark, but he was a sniveling creature that his from his own reality. He couldn’t do a damn thing to help.

But he could sit here and hold Jake close. He had noticed the shaking, and hoped that he hadn’t caused Jake too much harm. “You have every right to leave. I won’t hurt you. Please don’t feel like I’m forcing you to stay. You don’t have to… you can leave.”

@faltering_through pets

(LMAO DUDE HE'S LIKE SO MURDEROUS THO)

Jake faked a small laugh to try and cover up his dark thoughts. Focus Jake. "The first? I don't know who wouldn't want to protect someone as cute as you~" He resorted to switching to his flirty personality even though his head was spinning, he couldn't think straight. "Y-yeah, I think we should go." He looks down at Lighter who was still holding onto him. "No Lighter, you're not forcing me to do anything, I want to stay. I assure you it's just…I don't want to hurt you, y'know?" He said in the most simplest words he could, conveying what he felt in that short phrase, hoping that Lighter would understand what he meant, though of course, he wouldn't. He had been too vague.

@Toxic_Persephone group

((AHHH SORRY I THOUGHT I REPLIED))

Lighter wasn’t having it, he growled lowly. “You tell me who would want to protect a gang member and an arsonist.” His face turned away from Jake, a soft look of anguish upon his face.

He felt awful. What if Jake was only afraid of leaving because of who Lighter was? “A-Alright. But don’t feel obligated to stay… if you want to leave I’m going to fight for your love like hell but I’ll Let you go.” He said, pulling away from Jake.

“I understand. But you won’t hurt me, I promise.” He replied, taking Jake’s hand once he had set out a tip. “Let’s go pay and then we can go home.”

@faltering_through pets

(Lmaoo it's all good man, it happens)

Jake held back a glare at Lighter but said nothing. Was this it? Was this the universe's way of telling him that this wasn't going to go down well? What if he left right now? Would things be different if he did? Would he be able to avoid something he was going to regret in the near future? Yeah, probably. He huffed, frustrated. "Alright, then…" he said, his voice trailing off. What he was going to say next was probably not the best thing he could of said in this situation. "But from this point on you have to give me every reason to stay. So don't mess up on me because I really want be with you. You've got to ditch those people." He said, refering to the gang and his family. He shoved his hands into his pockets as Lighter pulled away from him. Jake knew that it probably wasn't going to be that hard for Lighter to decide to leave them, hell, he had said so in the first few minutes they had met. What was going to be a problem was the gang. How were they going to run away having the gang on Lighter's tail? What about Lighter's family? Would they report him missing since he is technically still underage? He stopped thinking about it suddenly. What if Lighter wasn't willing to do that. Or go with him anywhere for that matter. He ruffles up his hair, making it messy. He needed to get his act together. He smiles tiredly at Lighter. "I won't." He reassured Lighter, but it was more of a warning towards himself than anything else. He nodded when Lighter suggested they pay for the food, then let Lighter take his hand again. After all that thinking Jake's eyes looked extremely tired, maybe even dull.

@Toxic_Persephone group

Lighter could tell Jake was thinking something probably not good. He looked away, ashamed at himself. He was a lowly scum of a human. Jake couldn’t be happy with him.

At the mention of leaving the gang, Lighter’s face paled. He held his stomach, turning his head away from Jake. “Y-you don’t seem to understand my position.” He said softly. “If I leave, they’ll kill me.” He added, looking a little sick.

The rest of the time Lighter was silent. He groaned after awhile, looking at Jake. He couldn’t bare to leave but maybe it would be for the best. “Jake. I can’t do what you ask… no matter how hard I try, I can’t meet your standards. I’ll never be able to. I can’t keep you happy…” he trailed off.

@faltering_through pets

That was all the confirmation Jake needed. He stops suddenly, his expression turning dark. "What if someone kidnaps you against your will? Will they still kill you then or would they target the person who did the kidnapping?" There was something far more dark and sinister behind Jake's eyes. His whole being yelled danger. There was something unfriendly in his expression as he took a step towards Lighter. At the same time Jake was yelling at himself to stop, to just walk away but once Jake set his mind to something it was hard to change his mind.
(Just note that Jake in particular is more of a villain type of character, so not everything he does is exactly reasonable in other people's eyes)

@Toxic_Persephone group

“They’ll kill us both.” Came the soft reply. The male had looked away from his lover and taken a step away. He couldn’t take the look Jake was giving him. He feared it. He feared Jake. Lighter began to wonder if he had entered another abusive relationship.

“I was too weak to fend for myself and the kidnapper was at fault for harming a member. The weak die. The strong survive.” He recalled just last week when Marx had shot down Dallen - the weakest member of the team - after he had failed to kill someone. Lighter didn’t want to end up like Dallen.

Lighter had to take a few steps away from Jake now. He was terrified. Maybe Jake would be the one to kill him off. Maybe Marx wouldn’t have to do the deed. Maybe this was a way for Lighter to finally die.

(I like him XD)
