Jake woke up the next morning with Lighter's arms wrapped around him. Surprisingly, he didn't have a nightmare this time, he smiled. It was progress. He wondered what time it was. He didn't even have a phone- his parents never let him have one, but getting a phone was on his bucket list. Jake debated whether to move and risk waking up Lighter or just laying there staring at the ceiling waiting for Lighter to wake- which lets face it, would take several more hours. Jake decided not to move, Lighter deserved his sleep, especially after everything he had been through…..to protect him.
Lighter, of course, remained asleep. His eyes flickered from behind his eyelids, a soft grimace upon his face when he shifted a few times. The bandages wrapped around his arms were slightly bloody, but not enough to cause worry. If he had been awake at all, he would’ve been thankful for Jake’s decision to remain still. He needed his sleep.
Jake layed there, almost drifting off to sleep again himself. He flinched, alert once again when Lighter shifted. Jake looked at the bandages, he would need to replace them with fresh ones once Lighter woke up, good thing he had bought a lot of medical supplies yesterday. Today was a big day for Jake. They would finally get some things done. They would finally free Lighter of the cursed world he lived in for the longest time.
It took nearly an hour later for the skeletal male to wake, his arms pulling Jake in closer. With a soft, almost saddened sigh, he flickered his eyes open, yawning. “Jake…?” He mumbled, nuzzling into his lover’s chest. “Don’t leave yet.” He sounded half asleep, and still stuck in some dream.
Jake side smiled at how cute half asleep Lighter was. "I'm right here~ I'm not going anywhere, I promise" He assured Lighter as he pulled him closer. "Get enough sleep? You were out like a light" Jake chuckled faintly. He kissed Lighter on the forehead to try and wake him up a bit more, he still seemed a bit groggy. He had just woken up after all.
“Mm~ love you. A lot.” He mumbled, wrapping his arms around Jake’s neck. His fingers tangled in the other male’s hair, a soft smile gracing his lips at the kiss. “Yeah… I slept good… dreamed about you.” He rambled, trailing off slightly. His eyes slipped closed again. Lighter struggled to keep them open. He looked up at his lover’s face, blinking before leaning up to kiss him quickly. “Good morning~” He said once fully awake.
Lighter slid away from Jake, sitting up with a loud groan. His ribs crackled and his fingers were killing him. He studied his swollen fingers. They had to be at least somewhat broken or fractured. “Jaaakkee~” He whined sleepily, throwing his arms around his lover after flopping back down. “My body hurts.”
Jake stared at Lighter as he woke up. "I love you too sweetheart~ and oh? You had a dream about me? What was it? Good or bad?" He asked because of Lighter's 'don't leave' sentence. Jake laughed a bit a Lighter's dorky face as he fully awoke and returned the kiss given to him. "Morning you troublemaker~" He said watching as Lighter got up. Jake himself stayed in bed, still not wanting to leave the warmness of the blankets. He flinched when he heard a crack from Lighter. "Lighter! What the hell was that?!" Jake looked genuinely worried when Lighter hugged him and said that his body was hurting. "Okay well, we can take you to a hospital to fix you up because I'm pretty sure you broke something" Jake paused. "No, really, I'm taking you to a hospital. There's no arguing about it." He said sternly, not wanting Lighter to oppose him on this decision since it was the best he could come up with.
“It was good… until you said you wanted to get up.” He crooned, frowning. He smiled happily after awhile, looking down at his lover even after his ribs cracked. “My ribs, babe. That’s what that was.”
He let out a long sigh, burying his face in the crook of Jake’s neck. “Hospital? I don’t want to go Jake. It’s just a few fingers and a rib…” he mumbled grumpily, sounding like a little kid being forced to eat broccoli.
Jake frowned, a sort of 'done' look on his face. "Well it doesn't matter if you want to go or not, you're going to the hospital peroid and you aren't changing my mind" Jake said stubbornly. Once he had set his mind to something it was hard to stop him. "And just a few fingers and a rib?! Are you insane?? That's a huge deal Lighter! At least it is for me." He admitted. "It'll be okay, they can fix you up at the hospital. They have stuff we don't that could help you" Jake was trying to convince Lighter to go because he didn't want to force him but then again he did.
“I don’t want narcotics… or pain meds… I don’t wanna get hooked on them.” He mumbled, pulling Jake closer to him. He glanced up at his lover, biting his lip. “I don’t wanna have another drug to deal with.”
Jake pouted and frowned at the same time. "But it'll only be one time, you won't have to go again…" Jake placed his hand near Lighter's ribs, trying to see if he could feel the broken bone. "Does it hurt? You said your body hurt earlier, we should really go, Im worried about man" he said pulling Lighter into a gentle hug, trying not to hurt him. "I don't think you would get addicted after just one time though…"
Lighter groaned, and yet nodded slowly. He hugged Jake close and purred. “I’ll go for you.” He said softly. At The mention of ‘just one time’ Lighter cringed.
“Actually I was hooked on opioids for a bit. I quit after I overdosed. Gave me a really bad scare. Back then I didn’t want to die, I just wanted to get rid of my pain.” He admitted, planting a soft kiss to Jake’s exposed neck. “I want to live now. I want to live for you….”
Jake brushed a stray curl from Lighter's face behind his ear. "Thank you…and hey, I'm serious, if you really don't want to go I won't force you, I just want the best for you and that would be for you to be in the least amount of pain as possible if none at all" Jake gave Lighter a sad side smile.
Jake blushed a bit when Lighter kissed him on the neck. He wondered if this was the right thing to do. Should he really have Lighter go? Surely a doctor could help Lighter better than he ever could. "I understand how that must have felt and I'm sorry, I didn't know…like I said, we could stay home if you want" Jake froze and blinked a few times. Did he just call this small room his home? He did. The heat rushed up to his cheeks. Had he said that before? If he had then he hadn't even noticed it at all.
Lighter’s head followed the movement just a small bit, leaning into his lover’s hand as best he could. “I know you do. And I want the same for you, babe. You’re my everything.” He murmured, smiling happily. If this was what it felt like to be cared for then he wanted this forever.
“No, no. I’ll go. It’ll heal me faster, right? And once I’m healed, to pay you back for everything I’ll let you do whatever you want to me.” He looked up at his lover’s face blushing at the thought. He momentarily wondered if Jake had any hidden kinks he didn’t know about. His expression turned concerned when he noted the blinking. “What’s wrong?”
Jake had never felt so much love towards another human being before, it was refreshing. "You're my everything too, I love you so much words couldn't even express"
Jake nodded slowly. "Yeah, I think so since they got all of those fancy machines. I once saw an ambulance and they-" the words died on Jake's tongue when Lighter said he would pay him back by letting him do whatever he wanted to him. Jake's mind went else where for ten seconds before he snapped himself out it. Too many dirty thoughts passed his mind in those few seconds. He looked up at Lighter's concerned face. "A-ah! N-nothing! Just that I never thought I'd be able to call a place my home…"
“I love you too Jake.” He kissed his neck again, softer this time. His smile grew into a crooked grin when Jake fell silent. He knew he had made a good promise to his lover. He hoped that Jake would feel loved and wanted the more time he spent beside him. “Anything love~” He cooed again, very gently slipping his hands under his lover’s shirt to feel along his sides and to warm his hands. “This is your home now, love. You’re with me. I’m going to do my best to make it a home for you.” He purred, running a finger along Jake’s ribs softly. “I’m going to stick with you…”
Jake flinched and shivered when Lighter stuck his cold hands up his shirt again. "Oh for fucks's sake Lighter your hands are always so cold" but despite complaining about this, he let Lighter keep them there. His gaze soften at Lighter's words, a small warm smile forming on his lips. "Thanks…have I mentioned that I love you yet?" He joked before changing the subject. "Alright well we should get ready and changed to go, the sooner we can get to the hospital the faster we can leave and maybe go out some place to hang out. Oh! Let's go to the mall afterwards! You need new clothes after all.~"
“But you’re waaarrmm.” He whined, nuzzling his head under Jake’s chin. He purred before pulling back to give his lover a soft kiss on the lips. “You have. I love you too.” A large groan left his lips at the mention of getting up. He didn’t want to move from this spot. He wanted to cuddle and snuggle with Jake for the rest of the day. But he knew he had to be productive. Waaay more productive than he had been his entire life. He needed to fix a lot of things about him. “The mall!?” He suddenly perked up, growing excited. “I wanna go to the mall for new clothes. I haven’t been in so long! They have the best ice cream place up there!” He replied with a large grin. “New clothes and ice cream wi5 my boyfriend. I sound like a high school girl.” He joked, giggling softly. “One That still loves his boyfriend very very much.”
Jake laughed. "I am warm, not only am I warm, I'm hot~" he smirked, proud of himself for thinking up of that one. He petted Lighter, he looked like he really didn't want to do anything, but seemed to lighten up at the mention of the mall. Jake smiled like an idiot at his boyfriend then raised an eyebrow. "Ohoho~ So you love going the mall as much as I do~" He laughed a bit at the mention of Lighter being a school girl. "Hey! I keep telling you to get a school girl outfit, you certainly have all the requirements!" Jake teased, though he really was only joking.
“Oh hell yes you are.” He cooed, smiling at the pet. He gently pulled Jake over him so he could steal a kiss. “I do love the mall, but I’m not wearing a school girl outfit.” He huffed suddenly, glowering at his lover for a moment or two. “You can paint my nails all you want but you can’t get me into any girly clothing. Maybe skinny jeans but still.” He growled and yet he still pulled Jake over to kiss him yet again.
Jake laughed at the reaction he was able to get out of Lighter. "I'm only joking! I was kidding!" He said as he continued laughing. Once Lighter's lips met with Jake's he giggled a bit, pressing into the kiss. He loved it when Lighter kissed him, he always got a jittery feeling. It made Jake feel special, loved. "Also, for now we can wear the clothes I bought at the mart the other day. Just so we don't wear the same ol' clothes again"
Lighter cracked a smile behind the kiss, giggling softly at Jake’s words. He knew he was teasing him, and Lighter loved it. “Oh perfect! Let’s wear those.” He said with a small grin, slowly pealing himself off of the bed and away from Jake. “You’re the best thing to happen to me by the way.” He said, offering his less broken hand to Jake. “I love you and our time together and I love how you just love me and take care of me and love me.” He grinned. “God~ especially the way you love me~”
"Oh really? Well, I guess I can say the same. Never met anyone like you" Jake said casually, following Lighter's tone of voice. He grabbed onto Lighter's hand and smiled. "Me too~ You deserve to be taken care of after all that. Trust me, when I see Marx I'll have a friendly conversation with him" Jake hummed, though he knew that Lighter wouldn't want him to run into Marx anytime soon. Jake laughed. "Well yeah! What kind of boyfriend doesn't love their significant other?~" Jake got up with Lighter's help. He quickly changed out of his previous clothes that Lighter had lent him and threw on the cheap ass clothes he had got at the mart. It was the best he could do for now. He had gotten himself a plain black t-shirt and Lighter a red t-shirt, considering his favorite color. The jeans were of the same type, though different sizes to fit.
Lighter purred happily. He grew a little worried at Jake’s mention of Marx, shifting his weight uncomfortably. “Please don’t even look at him…” he whined, following Jake to the clothes. “You are a loving significant other~” he replied softly, taking his own clothing and changing quickly. He sighed softly, stretching out his arms. It was nice to have new clothes. “Man I want to shower.”
Jake chuckled. "Alright, I won't even look at him…for now." He smiled proudly. "But of course~ and you my lovely are the best partner I've ever had~" At the mention of a shower Jake groaned. "Don't even mention it. I'm dying to take a shower too. This building doesn't really have showers I take it?" He asked, though it was almost a guarantee that it didn't or Lighter would have said so. "Maybe we could go to a pool or something" Jake thought out loud but he knew that it probably wasn't the best idea. "We'll have to get an apartment real soon" Jake shrugged, but seeming happy about the whole getting an apartment situation. "Anyways, let's get going~" he said, already at the door. He hoped that they wouldn't run into Marx. At least not right now.
Lighter beamed at the praise. He bit his lip and giggled, moving to Jake’s side. “No showers here. The pool? I’m not sure that’d be the best. Do they have a community shower?” He asked, knowing fully that there was a high chance those didn’t exist anymore. “I do want an apartment. And soon. I hate not having a shower in this building.” He complained on his way to the door with Jake. “Alright fiiine.”
"I don't know about community showers…" Jake said as the thought. "Yeah, we really need to get that apartment~" The thought made him giggle. Him? Finally having a normal life? What a relief~
Jake accompanied Lighter to the hospital, but when he saw them stick Lighter he looked away because that looked traumatizing. Who was he kidding? He was just scared of needles.
After they had gotten Lighter feeling better, they had walked to the mall. Just like Jake had promised. "What flavor icecream do you want?" Jake asked. They had gone to that place Lighter had talked about. It was nice being out for once.
Lighter giggled, pressing a kiss to Jake’s neck. “We do. Let’s hurry and save up for it.” He said with a warm smile. Truth be told, he could get that money fast. He would have to deal with the gang, however. He did have a lot of money already in a savings account. Marx still wired him money sometimes. He hated it.
Lighter was patient the entire time, letting them stick him and fix him up. He was given a few finger casts and his ribs were repositioned so they could heal. He focused on Jake’s face as they did so, pain laced in his eyes.
Lighter ran a nervous hand through his hair, sighing softly. “Peach sherbet.” He replied, taking Jake’s hand in his. He looked around with a soft smile, enjoying the freedom of the mall.
Jake had given Lighter a reassuring nod since he wasn't allowed to hold Lighter's hand as they patched him up. They needed the room to work around and Jake didn't want to get in the way so he didn't.
Jake had watched Lighter run a hand through his hair without getting stuck so he decided to test if he could do the same. He ran his own hand through Lighter's hair and yep. It got stuck. He frowned. They must have looked like madmen with how were dressed and their overall appearance. Jake took Lighter's hand in his and walked over to the register and told the guy their orders. "Umm a Peach Sherbert for the red head and I'll take the Colombian coffee…" Once he had paid and they gave them their icecreams, Jake gently pulled Lighter over to a table to sit at.
