Eugene was frozen. His blush deepened into a darker red. Too many butterflies flew around in his stomach. If it wasn't clear, he was the opposite of cool when it comes to real affection. He was game for flirting and teasing, but anything he deemed 'real' was the bane of his existence. Still silent, he ended up looking down and to the side, but there was no attempt to remove his hand from Jay's. As much as he was nervous and awkward, he honestly loved the feel of their hands together.
Jay slid the chair a little closer, his hand tightening around Eugene’s slightly. In an attempt to break the silence he glanced up at the other and offered a shy smile.
“W-want to start the movie now?” He flashed his best grin, hoping to ease the tension.
Eugene turned to look at Jay once again. His face had cooled a little while looking away, but there was no hope to hide the flushing, as it had appeared again at the sight of Jay. "Uh, yeah… let's do that." He managed to say. His hand tightened a little as well, almost as if he would lose the feeling of Jay's hand in his if he held too much looser.
Jay laughed softly to himself, pressing play for the movie. He didn’t really pay attention to it, however, as his eyes drifted to their hands.
This kind of affection sent his heart racing for some unknown reason. He really liked it, though, it made him giddy and almost like he was floating.
Eugene was also not paying attention to the movie, although he did try to. One of the great things coming from starting the movie was that he could think about it all, without feeling pressured to say or do anything. His fluster had gone down, subsiding to a small blush. He felt almost like the butterflies still fluttering in his stomach.
About a quarter through the movie Jay shifted his gaze to Eugene and cleared his throat awkwardly. “May I sit up there with you…?” He whispered, giving the other’s hand a gentle squeeze.
Is this too fast?
He sincerely hoped it wasn’t. He hadn’t been in a relationship in a while. He had forgotten what to do but he could fake it.
Eugene's breath caught, but only for a second. If Jay had asked that before they had even come into Eugene's room, he would have said yes immediately. But now there was a whole different feeling in the room, although, it was probably just him imagining it.
All of that crossed his mind in only a second or two. He took a silent breath and smiled. "Of course, I was wondering why we didn't decide on the in the beginning." He said, trying to regain his confidant and care-free attitude.
Jay flashed a smile and quickly climbed up onto the bed. He didn’t let go, however, worried that if he did let go he wouldn’t get to hold the other’s hand anymore.
“Thank you, the chair is nice and all but I would prefer to be up here, with you.” He teased lightly, his breath quickening as the air seemed to thicken between them.
Eugene's heart fluttered as Jay settled next to him. He enjoyed it more than he'd like to admit, although, he wasn't complaining in the slightest. Mustering all of his willpower to not go silent like he had before, he took another breath. "Well, I'm glad. It was getting kinda lonely up here."
“Ah lonely already? Don’t be, I’m here to drive that loneliness away~” Jay’s confidence was starting to come back, and he was going to use it to his advantage.
He gently nudged Eugene, crossing his legs and smiling like an idiot as he returned his gaze to the tv.
"Well, I'm very glad, I'd probably shrivel up on my bed if I was lonely for too long." Eugene looked at Jay for a little while after he had started the movie again. Although, he felt a little strange doing that, so he focused back on the movie. As the movie progressed a little, Gene relaxed. First, his knees touched Jay's, then he leaned against him a bit more with a soft smile.
“If I’m being honest, same.” He hummed, stretching his free arm out with a small yawn.
Jay bit his lip to hide his smile as he felt Eugene relax into him. He liked the slight intimacy they were sharing, even if it was as small as their knees touching.
Slowly he leaned back into Eugene’s touch, paying attention to any and all movement.
Eugene was hyper-focused on any of their physical contact, especially their hands which were still laced together. As much as he did like the movie, he didn't pay any attention to it. He did try and it sure looked like he was, it could look like he was very interested in the movie. He was racing around in his mind. If he said he had held anyone's hand or sat next to someone like he was with Jay, he'd be lying.
Jay tried to keep his breathing normal but it was hard when it sounded so loud in his ears. He bumped their shoulders together a few times, letting his head tilt closer and closer to Eugene’s each time. He was focused on pacing himself so as not to just jump straight in and risk everything.
No, Jay was smarter than that.
So by the end of the movie their heads were practically touching, shoulder to shoulder and everything.
But Jay didn’t move right away, instead he cleared his throat and waved away his blush as best he could. “Good movie, isn’t it?”
"Mhmm. It is…" Eugene hummed quietly. He had closed the small gap between their heads, softly leaning his against Jay's. He realized they had barely eaten any of the sweets, he knew why he hadn't, but why hadn't Jay eaten them. In Eugene's eyes, Jay seemed confident and not at nervous as he was himself.
Jay closed his eyes, smiling happily. He felt his heart skip a beat at how close Eugene’s voice was.
He opened one eye to glance at Eugene, sucking in a breath. He tried hard not to move his head, knowing for a fact that he’d fall into some gay panic if their noses got any closer.
Eugene was way past gay panic. He had crossed that threshold the second Jay sat up next to him. This was both an anxiety-inducing and wonderful experience.
In most situations, Eugene was okay, but with anything completely new he was a mess of nerves and emotions. This was no exception. The only exposure he has had to romantic relationships was in movies and books, and that barely counted.
Jay froze up when he tried to move a little closer to Eugene, unable to beat down his nerves. He swallowed hard, shivering softly before laughing.
“Ah… sorry… I’m not sure what I’m doing,” he murmured, turning his head a little more towards Eugene.
“But I do like being this close.” He managed to get out, flashing his best smile and hoping it didn’t look nervous.
Eugene giggled a little before turning his head to look at Jay as well. "You think you don't know what you're doing? I'm literally the most clueless and the most nervous person that I know of right now." He paused, a small smile on his lips. "But in all honesty, I really like it as well…" He said this a bit quieter, flushing as he said it.
Jay pressed their foreheads together, giggling softly. “I mean, I’m pretty clueless too when it comes to you.” He winked, giving Eugene’s hand a small squeeze. “Soooo…. wanna go on a real date after this is all over..? Even just one?”
Eugene's heart jumped up into his throat. Everything, at that point, was the cause. With much effort, he swallowed it back down to answer. "How about more than one?" He asked with pretty obviously fake confidence.
“I like the way you think.” Jay had to laugh softly, hoping the pink in his cheeks couldn’t be recognized as a blush.
“A few dates would be fun. I’d love to take you on a few.”
"I'd love to go on a few," Eugene said in response. His gaze rested on Jay's eyes. They were beautiful, much more beautiful than he would expect from such darkly colored eyes. "Imagine if we had just talked to each other sooner. We would have probably already gone on a lot of dates."
“I’ve never hated past me more so than now. If only he’d have been less of a pansexual mess.” He mused, snickering softly. His expression softened as he gazed back into Eugene’s eyes, loving the way they caught the light. It gave him such a star-struck gaze and he was living for it.
To be fair, Eugene was star-struck. He would have probably looked the part even without catching the light. With a strange surge of confidence, he faced Jay a bit more and wrapped his arms around the other's torso, burying his face in the crook of Jay's neck. He was very glad that Jay couldn't see his face, it was probably bright red. Although, he was sure the other could feel the heat from his cheeks on his skin.
