"What do you mean people are staring at you?" She asked, turning around immediately and looking over to where e was talking about, "Just ignore them, they'll stop eventually."
"What do you mean people are staring at you?" She asked, turning around immediately and looking over to where e was talking about, "Just ignore them, they'll stop eventually."
Oscar moved to stand slightly behind Honor, even though it didn't help much since he was taller than her. "I hope they stop. I don't like them."
The pair in question was a man and a woman, both seemingly in their late twenties, sitting at a table just inside the mall's food court. They seemed like ordinary enough people, just a young couple getting lunch together. The guy was leaned all the way back in his chair, watching Oscar and Honor almost lazily, and the girl was busy with her phone. Their meals were cold and mostly untouched on their plates.
Honor shot a slightly nasty glare at the couple before turning back to shopping, shaking her head, "Don't worry about them. We won't stay here much longer but if they keep watching us as we leave or follow us then I'll do something about it." The couple slightly worried her, though she figured she was being too over suspicious thinking they were working with the Goldenrod agency.
Oscar copied Honor and glowered at the pair briefly. "Okay. Maybe they're staring because of the bandages on my head. I haven't seen anyone else here with bandages like this, so maybe they think it's weird."
"We could get you a hat if you want," She suggested, wandering further into the store and hoping he would follow her away from the watching of the couple, "Then they wouldn't look at you as weirdly."
"A hat?" Oscar asked, trailing after her. "I read about those. They cover your head. Yeah, can I get one? Will there be hats around here?"
Honor nodded, taking a turn out of the womens clothes and going to the mens section to find him a hat, "Do you want a ballcap? Or a winter hat?"
"Um…..not sure. I guess whatever hides the bandages best." Oscar glanced around at the different aisles curiously. "Those look like they'd work," he said, pointing at a bin full of knitted winter hats in various colors and designs.
"We can get one of those, but we also might want to get you a ball cap. Winter hats get really warm in the summer," She said, heading over to the bin of winter hats and searching through them, "Pick whatever one you want."
Oscar dug into the pile and started pulling out hats, examining each one carefully. "I like the ones with more colors. Look, this one kind of matches my shoes." He pulled out a black hat covered in jarring neon rainbow polka dots. "Does this one look good?"
Honor smiled and nodded, looking up at his choice and pulling up a choice of her own, "That one looks pretty cool, or I found this one." She had caught on to his liking of color and in her hand was a blue and dark blue striped hat with a matching pompom on top, "It's up to you though, once you pick one we can go find you a ball cap too if it gets too hot out."
(sorry I didn't reply yesterday, it wasn't the best of days and I was pretty busy TvT Also I'm working today but hopefully not very long)
Oscar caught sight of the hat she was holding and immediately dropped the one he'd been looking at. "That one's cool." He took it and admired it for a minute, then tried it on. "Yeah, I want this one. I like this color. Now, what are ball caps exactly?"
Her smile grew and she motioned for him to follow her as she turned to lead him to the ball caps, "They're a different type of hat, one that is better for now when it's warm out. I'll show you some." She led him to the shelves of ball caps, with all different designs and colors and motioned to them, "Pick whatever one you want."
"These have a lot more words and stuff on them," Oscar observed with interest, starting to go through the shelves. He quickly discarded the hats with brand names or sports teams stitched onto them, moving onto the ones with more unique designs. After a minute he picked one up with some excitement. "Look, this one says "ew, people". I like this one because I don't like humans and I think they're kind of creepy." The implications sank in a second later and he hastily added, "Not you, though, you're okay. Can I have this one?"
Honor looked at the hats as well as he picked which one he wanted, smiling at his choice and laughing at his explanation. "It's alright, I understand what you mean. And yeah, you can get that hat." Her hand ran over a hat with a pretty sunset stitched front, but she didn't pick it up, just admiring it instead of buying it. She really liked it, but it costed more than she wanted to pay and she already had several hats.
Oscar happily put the ball cap on, then stuffed the winter hat on top of it. "There. Are you going to get one too, Honor?"
She shook her head and pulled her hand away from the sunset hat, now mationing for him to give her his hats, "No, I have a few at home already, let's pay for those quick and then you can wear them as much as you want."
Oscar reluctantly removed the hats and handed them over. "I'll pay you back for these too, don't worry. And the clothes, and the food, and the….did the doctor cost anything? I'll give you something for that too."
Honor just chuckled lightly and nodded, "It's alright Oscar, you don't have to pay me back, there's no easy way to get money without having a job." She took the hats and led the way to the front register, paying for the hats and handing them back to Oscar with another smile, "There you go, two new hats."
"I'll still give you something back for it, I promise," Oscar said firmly, jamming both hats back onto his head. "So where are we going now?"
"Ok, if you promise," She replied, just smiling at him again and shrugging, "Well, where do you want to go? We still have a little time before lunch if you wanted to walk around, otherwise I could show you the park or we could just go eat right away."
(I gtg to bed, but have this ^^)
Oscar tilted his head curiously. "The park? What's that? I'd like to see a park, please."
Honor nodded, already leading him out of the shop and through the mall towards where her car was, "I think you'll like the park, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. You'll see that for yourself when we get there." The only thing she was now focused on besides leading Oscar to the car was watching to see if the couple from before was following them. Maybe she was just being paranoid but she wanted to be safe.
So far, the couple was nowhere to be seen. The mall crowd was generally starting to thin as people went elsewhere to find food.
Oscar, meanwhile, was made ten times more curious when Honor refused to explain their destination to him. He trotted after her, enjoying the bounciness of his new shoes. He tried to remember what the dictionary had said about parks, but somehow he was too impatient and distracted to focus at the moment. "Well, let's hurry then. How far is it?"
"A few minutes drive away," She said, smiling at his impatiness, "We'll get there soon enough." Finally they made it to the doors of the mall and she led the way to her car, getting an idea with a even bigger smile, "Maybe, if you don't mind waiting too terribly long, we could stop by the grocery store and pick up something for lunch and have a picnic at the park."
