He smiled a bit, shifting a little as he settled into his seat. "Have you ordered yet?" he asked, picking up the menu and opening it up. If Emmett had ordered already, well, no big deal, Rowan would just order when the waiter came back.
"no, I was waiting for you." Emmett said kindly then frowned at himself. "I mean I didn't want to be rude, I hope that's not to weird" he babbled quickly.
"But no I haven't ordered yet" he said, putting his fist up to his mouth and clearing his throat.
Rowan almost laughed at Emmett's cleared awkwardness, but did not, merely nodded. "Alright. That's fine." he replied, giving Emmett a quick smile.
Emmett smiled back politely as the waitress came up to the table, her light hair pulled back.
She smiled at them widely and spoke. "Hello, my name is Christina, i'm your waitress tonight and I'll take your order, what would you like" she said kindly.
Emmett smiled up at her and gestured for Rowan to go first.
Rowan smiled back at the waitress, and ordered spaghetti with meatballs. He had come to Vito's before, and enjoyed their food quite a bit.
Emmett then looked back up to the waitress.
"I'll take the fettuccine alfredo" he said to her politely. SHe write it down in her notepad then turned on her heels and headed into the kitchen.
"I've never been here before" Emmett clarified out loud, looking to Rowan "Is it good?" he asked him.
Rowan nodded a little. "Mhm, they have really good food here." he replied, setting down the menu and offering up a small smile.
Emmett smiled to himself and copied Rowan's actions, mostly out of nervousness.
"I'm going to trust you on that statement" he said with a small chuckle.
He nodded again, stretching for a moment. He wondered if he could or should ask what Emmett had done that day that made him miss the coffee shop, but he didn't want to pry.
"work is exhausting" Emmett commented, trying to make up for conversation. He rubbed his under eyes tiredly and yawned into his hand.
"Sounds like it. What were you up to today?" he asked, running his hand through his hair.
"just standard stuff, checking the statistics and financial stability of a small business." Emmett said with a small frown.
"Just some small stuff" he added as the waitress came by with glasses full of water and setting one in from of each of them.
Rowan nodded slowly. "Right. Okay." he wasn't sure what that meant, but it was fine.
Emmett gave a small, nervous laugh.
"Honestly it was boring and uneventful, what about work for you>" he found himself asking Rowan to change the topic of the conversation.
"I mean…same. It was just business as usual for me, nothing out of the ordinary." He replied with a faint little smile.
Emmett smiled warily.
"Ah that's good" he said as he sipped his water slowly.
He nodded. "Yeah." He smiled a little bit, taking a sip of his own drink.
Emmett used his straw to stir his ice slightly awkwardly, blowing slight bubbles in his glass of ice water.
"This is a really awkward date if i'm being honest." He admitted shyly, turning a crimson color.
He laughed. "It is. My apologies." He gave Emmett a faint smile.
"maybe we could do icebreakers?" Emmett suggested while smiling "to diffuse the tension?" He added.
"Sure, that works." he replied. "Do you want to go first?"
Emmett nodded "sure" he said happily.
"My name is Emmett, my favorite color is Robin's egg blue and my bestfriend is my cat, Seedalee, most people know her as Seeda. though" he said proudly.
Rowan nodded a little. "My name is Rowan, my favorite color is emerald green, and…" he trailed off, thinking. "And my cat is still a young kitten."
Emmett smiled.
"Seeda is like a teenager so like she's kind of eh—" He said quietly.
"okay, three secrets, they don't have to be deep, that you feel comfortable sharing." Emmett said
"my first is that I slept with my parents in their bed until I was ten, the second is I always thought Halloween was a celebration of my birthday, that's why people always gave me candy." He added
the last one is that I once caught my curtains on fire in my bedroom." He said quickly, but not ashamed.
Rowan smiled a little, a quiet laugh leaving his mouth at what Emmett had revealed. "Alright, uh, three secrets…" he trailed off, thinking about what he could say. "Uhm. I have a bio sister that I haven't seen since I was ten and she was five, I'm still afraid of the dark, and I once jumped out of a second story window and landed without breaking any bones."
