He nodded again, folding his hands behind his back and watching her for a long moment. "When did these…abilities of yours first…come to be?"
He nodded again, folding his hands behind his back and watching her for a long moment. "When did these…abilities of yours first…come to be?"
"I don't remember. The first memory I have of them is from when I was around seven. I gave Sister Catherine a fight, that's for sure." She said, looking down. "I'm lucky she was the only one in the room at the time, the rest of the sisters never liked me much."
"Sister…a nun?" He asked, his accent pulling out the "u" sound in something closer to a long "o". "You were raised by nuns, then?" His "w"'s and his "r"'s were also different, the w closer to a v, and the r gently slurred and rolled into something much softer than most English speakers would have said it.
"For most of my life, yes." She said, nodding slightly. "They found me on their doorstep with a slip of paper, supposedly. At least, that's what I was told."
He nodded faintly, hands still clasped behind his back. "I see." he said, watching her quietly for a long moment, before looking away again.
"I'm terribly sorry, but what is your name? I don't think I caught it." She asked, looking up a bit to look at him.
"Valentin Cosmo." he replied, bowing slightly as he spoke. "I shall be your guard for the time you are here."
She nodded slightly, stepping back a tiny bit. "It's a lovely name." She said, smiling softly.
He nodded faintly. "Thank you." he seemed a little unsure about the compliment, but accepted it anyway.
Alcesta looked back down, fidgeting slightly. She wasn't sure what to do, besides stand around awkwardly. She played with the ends of her hair, biting her lip.
He moved back towards the door. "Would you like me to leave?"
"Oh, no you're fine." She said quickly. "I'm just… not the most social."
"Is fine. Don't worry about it." He replied, shaking his head. "I can be leaving, if it would make you more comfortable."
"I…I don't want to get you in trouble with him for leaving me unsupervised." She admitted, a little awkwardly. "He seems a little… quick to anger."
"As long as I'm outside the door, it will be fine." He replied. "So long as you don't go out the window."
"If you're sure." She said, giving him a slight nod. "I won't go out the window."
He inclined his head, and ducked out the door, closing it softly behind him. He settled in just beside it, leaning his shoulders against the wall and closing his eyes.
She smoothed her skirt, sitting down in a chair that was in the corner, running a hand through her hair. She sighed softly, looking out the window. It was sunny out, and escaping out there was tempting, but she didn't want punishment-for her or anyone else.
He sighed faintly, opening his eyes and straightening. He was used to standing for hours, and this would be no different. He knew it wouldn't.
Alcesta bit down on her lip. It wouldn't hurt to just open the window, would it? She had already had agreed not to try to escape through it, they didn't say it couldn't be open.
Valentin began to hum very quietly to himself as he stood guard, waiting for someone to call upon him.
She got up, glancing back at the door before crossing to the window. She pushed it open, hopping up to sit on the window sill, leaning back against the frame. Her eyes closed, sunlight falling across her face and breeze picking up strands of her hair.
He kept humming, eventually tapping out the beat on his leg.
(Gtg now, goodnight!)
((Gn!!!))
Alcesta hummed softly to herself, relishing a little in the warmth and fresh air that came with spring.
(should we timeskip ?)
Valentin shifted a little, still wondering what, exactly, Lord Kantner wanted this girl for.
