(Their relationship summed up into a song)
((would you look at that, a song I know))
"If I do that, I'm out for good until whenever," Tess, stubborn as always, making a visible effort to rile up whatever strength she had left for some semblance of being 'fine.'
This time, Runner wasn't gonna let her convince him.
"You look worse than I do," he said, gently grabbing her hand and tugging her towards the couch. "Go sleep, for fucks sake. I got this."
(Imao, as soon as Tess closes her eyes Rhianon comes in)
"Rude," she muttered, but let him guide her to the couch. This was the downside to her power. Using too much during the night made her crash, and when she'd wake up was a gamble. She might be able to be roused; she might not. It might be just a few minutes; it might be an entire day before she woke up naturally.
((perfect timing and I love it. Poor Tess would have no idea what's going on 'cause she out))
"G'night," he said, then walked back into the kitchen.
Fucking hell, he thought, releasing a deep sigh. Finally, some peace.
As soon as Tess crashed on the couch, Rhianon appeared in front of Runner. Her hood was pulled back and it looked like she came here in a hurry. She didn't give Runner any time to react before she was grabbing his chin and searching his body for any harm. When she registered the bandages, she swore viciously and glared around the house. "Where is that scheming, good for nothing sun dragon? I have some words for that criminal."
"Hold on, hold on, Mom," Runner said, putting his hands on his mother's shoulders. "It wasn't her fault, I promise."
Rhianon's nostrils flared, still trying to locate Tessa. Her eyes locked onto Runner, however, though they still burned with anger. "She hurt you. How could you defend her?"
"It wasn't her, Mom. We came across an Enenra and it latched onto her. She wouldn't hurt me."
Rhianon didn't seem to believe him. "Then explain to me why she didn't try to fight back. If she cared enough for you to not want to hurt you, why didn't she try to prevent it?"
"She was possessed, like I said. There's not much she can do to prevent it." He moved back to the stove, where the noodles were boiling. "Besides, I'm fine, Mom."
Rhianon followed, cutting furious glances around the house. "Those bandages say otherwise," she countered, crossing her arms over her chest. "Why are you defending her so adamantly? Last I saw of you two, you'd rather be anywhere but with each other."
Runner blushed slightly, trying to absorb himself in cutting the rest of the tomato.
"Things changed," was the best response he could come up with.
"Runner," she said, eyes narrowing as her voice turned into the mom voice. "That's not very specific."
"I'm aware," he said, avoiding the question as well as he possibly could.
"I just realized," he turned to his mom, happy he found a way to change the topic. "I have no clue what I'm doing."
Rhianon took a deep breath through her nose, then let it out through her lips in the form of a heavy sigh. "What was she making?" she asked, allowing him to change the subject as he stepped up to the counter.
"Um….something with vodka and noodles," he said with a shrug, stepping back and putting his hands on his hips.
She sighed. "Helpless child," she muttered and closed her eyes, looking back into the house's past for any hint as to what Theresa was making. When she found the moment, she also found that the dragon had felt guilty for her actions, and Runner was responsible for the dragon's slumber. She blinked back into the present and shook her head, a small smile on her face. "I know of the recipe."
"Do you?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at the small smile. "You seem very happy about it."
"Not the recipe," she said, getting to work on finishing what Runner and Theresa had started. "I've simply realized my error in judgement of the hot-headed dragon."
Runner tilted his head, sitting back down in his former chair. "Did you…..oh. Forgot you could do that."
(What if she looks even farther and saw that whole scene between Runner and Tess?)
((Ooooo. She would pester him until he confessed))
"Mmhmm," she hummed, somehow staying graceful as she cooked. "Its both a curse and a blessing."
(Let's do it, then)
"How did you hear about the fight?" he asked, leaning forward slightly. "It was, like, 2 hours ago."
