He gave her leg a light pat before getting to his feet. "No need to thank me, man. Like I said, it wasn't you."
He gave her leg a light pat before getting to his feet. "No need to thank me, man. Like I said, it wasn't you."
"Yeah, well, I'm used to being at fault for whatever I fuck up." She sighed and rolled over, watching Runner.
"I'mma let you get some more sleep," Runner said, "And may get some of my own."
"A bed is more comfortable than a couch. Just saying." She rubbed at her eyes, then sat up and ran her fingers through her hair. "Just gimme a minute to function."
He tilted his head. "You need sleep. There's no point in getting up and doing something."
"All I'll be doing is changing and crawling into bed," she muttered, the groaned and hunched over, still super tired.
Runner stood there for a moment, then rolled his eyes and held his hand out. "Need some help?"
She glanced up at him, silent and considering. She then sighed heavily and pushed herself to her feet. "Maybe…"
"I'm not carrying you up the stairs again, so you're gonna have to do that yourself," Runner said, slipping her arm over his shoulders and slipping an arm around her waist.
"Darn. And here I thought I could be lazy again." She rested her head against his shoulder with a dramatic sigh, a small smile on her lips.
"I do not apologize," he responded as they made their way slowly to the stairs.
"You should," she pouted, "You got my hopes up, and now are shattering my dreams. How cruel of you." She took one look at the stairs and groaned. "Why must I do this to myself?"
"Punishment for nearly eating me," he said, slipping behind her. "I'll catch you if you fall."
"Ass." She sighed and started the climb up the stairs, grasping the railing in a steely grip so she didn't fall due to her noodle-like legs.
"C'mon, you're a big girl. You got this," he mocked gently, keeping a light hand on her back.
She glared over her shoulder and stuck her tongue out at him. "Mock me all you want. You're the one pissing and moaning about me being too heavy for you to carry."
"I'm pissing and moaning about the fact that I was nearly split in half," Runner said, sticking his tongue back out at her.
"Uh huh, I'm sure," she drawled. "And if I really wanted to split you in half, we wouldn't be having this conversation, possessed or no."
"Eh, I think you were a bit preoccupied suffocating," he responded as the reached the top of the stairs. He pulled his hand away from her back after he decided there was a low risk of her falling.
"Because of you, I shall add. Rude." She rubbed at her throat absentmindedly as she turned to face Runner. She added a soft smile. "Just another thing to add to my list of things to thank you for."
"Pppsssshhh," he said, waving her off. "Forget about it, Tess. It isn't that big of a deal."
"Shhhhh!" She fixed a fake scowl in his direction, arms crossed over her chest. "Let me be nice for once."
Runner rolled his eyes. "Fine. What else is on this 'list?'"
((my sister has a friend over rn, and it's really honing in on the fact that I am a hermit with little to no friends))
Tessa tilted her head and silently counted on her fingers, then shook her hands and head. "Let's just say it all boils down to you putting up with my shit with relatively minimal complaint."
Runner rolled his eyes. "I've been a bit busy trying not to die through most of it, in case you couldn't notice."
