(I likes it lots)

"I knew it," he mumbled, rubbing the side of his face. "She was running on vodka as she tried to cook."

"She was tired enough that it didn't take much to get her to sleep," he admitted. "I just dragged her to the couch."

Deleted user

"Yes," he responded immediately. "I think we'll need all the help we can get."

She smiled slightly. "Then I shall fetch a moon dragon to aid you. And…" she glanced over towards Tessa, "do keep this addition a secret from miss Hunt."

@ElderGod-kirky group

"Because I have a feeling she'll like this surprise." Vague, but she didn't want Runner thinking that she was purposefully bringing competition into Runner's already complicated relationship with the dragon.

"So….they know each other?" This might make her a bit more comfortable, he thought, having no clue what his mother was planning.

"Sounds like a good idea to me," he said after taking another bite of noodles. "Like I said, we need all the help we can get."

She nodded and offered a small smile. "Well, now that I know you're safe, I'll leave you to your dinner. Take care of her, in the meantime," she added, jerking her chin in the direction of a sprawled out and murmuring Tessa, "You'll have help soon enough, but remember what I said earlier."

Runner stood up and walked over to his mother, offering his arms out. "A hug before you go?"

Deleted user

"I sure hope so," he mumbled, ignoring the slight pain in his midsection from the awkward position of his arms.

She kissed his forehead, then disappeared in a swirl of black, scentless smoke.

Tessa stirred slightly, but was still asleep and murmuring quietly to herself—words half Italian, half English.

Runner's nose scrunched up as he walked over to the couch, sitting in the space between Tess's feet and the arm of the couch. The pain was starting to get to him, but it made sense as the adrenaline was completely gone.

Tessa rolled over and curled up into a ball, face and front pressed against the back of the couch. Her muttering ceased, but she looked tense, as if bracing herself for something.

Runner propped his elbow up of the arm of the couch and set his head into his hand. There wasn't much he could do for Tess, and the stuff he could might kill him in the process.

She didn't stir any for a long while, her breathing even. After a long stretch of silence, she murmured softly, still facing the back of the couch, "Thank you."

"Hm?" Runner raised his head and looked over at Tess. "What do you mean?"
